Agreed. If the band are doing well will you ditch the idea of going away? If not, don't bother. G
Bottom line, if you can't make it sound like a record with 48 tracks, it ain't the gear.
Amen
8 analogue, 8 by adat and 8 by spdif.
8, 8 and 2 you do mean? G

I have done all sorts of projects from acoustic / orchestral / big band / rock and pop across lots of jobs ranging from live recording and location work to major production albums and have never found the 48 tracks limiting (i had the upgrade on the last LE). I mean, a generous drum kit (if I am going ALL OUT) is the following: Kick - 3 (in, out and speaker) Snare - 2 (Top and bottom) Toms - 3 Hats - 1 OH's - 3 Room - 2 Thats 14 tracks! You could even take trigger tracks from the kick/snare and toms and still sit comfortably under 20. 48 tracks is not a limitation. The beatles managed on 4! Peter Gabriels SO was done on 2x24 machines and then all bounced to one 24. Bohemian Rhapsody was 24 for the band and 24 for vocals and all bounced to one for the mix down. None of these sound 'limited' to me. G

I have played Stonecolbass's funkmeister. Its possibly the nicest bass on the planet. Made stunningly and plays like a dream. G

48 stereo tracks. Audio tracks at that. Instruments are on top of this. Besides, 48 tracks is a LOT of tracks. G

you do it wont run on 10.4 G

Its nice isn't it. Lots of effort has been piled into the basic opperation and interface of it whilst sticking to the Pro Tools functionality. G

As well as the SOS forum, have a look through this forum as well: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/studio-cons...tion-acoustics/ they have some pretty indepth threads about what you are doing with some pretty hardcore acoustic specialists floating about. That bassline will survive fine without any fx so long as you guys have a good singer. Its a brilliant song

Two great musicians / composers: Zack A. Moir (the darker more experimental stuff): http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...17-4397f2ac05cd Tom Pickles (the more 'jazz' and thematic tracks): http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=18447374 Both are exceptional at what they do an very young. Incidentally, Zack plays first Tennor for the whole album (and has 3 solo spots). Tom usually is second Tennor live but had to conduct during the sessions although does play a stinning flute solo in 'Troubles Times'. G -
Don't bother with the M-Audio stuff. From experience none of it is built to last and their customer service department is shocking and, on top of that, the units don't sound great in comparison to some of the other stuff on the market. G

Aye, CD's especially. Usually a few gems are hidden amongst what others consider to be 'tat'. G

I play and teach for a living. Do other things on the side (recording being the main one which I love) but on the whole its sh*t wedding gigs etc... that bring in the bread. I f***ing hate it but put all effort into doing a good job. I work long, anti-social hours and make about 10k a year tops. I know several top players doing more or less the same as me but feel blessed that they do it. G

Rimskidog, I just saw your studio on Gearslutz. G

Death Magnetic - Metallica. Good metal album but really poorly recorded/mastered (they should all be ashamed) New coldplay Record - La Viva something or other. Pretty beautiful. Micheal Braur is one of my favorite mix engineers and he did a stunning job on this one. G

Hey Everyone, I have a good condition, fully working Line 6 DL4 pedal with power supply. This unit works perfectly although has a loose wire which means it wont work with batteries. This just needs a little solder but as it comes with a FREE power supply it all works fine. Like this here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Line-6-DL4-Delay-Mod...%3A1|240%3A1318 Pictures available if required. Best time to announce leaving a band...

At the end. I would go with it and say at the very end 'guys, I have decided that the next gig is gonna be my last'
