1. Sounds awesome man. You and JB are really solid together as a rhythm section. Love the chicks voice too. What was the bass signal chain? Some of your effects are wicked! Gx
2. Hey Everyone, My first full album as a producer, 'Arguments (Waiting to Happen)' by Edinburgh based big band MOJO was released last week on Stitch records. Here is a track and a few examples: I recorded, mixed and produced this record so I am very excited that it seems to be doing well so far and we are getting some nice feedback (as well as the odd nasty one.... i guess it is a little niche). Anyway, the reason I have it here is the bass player Kevin Glasgow is an absolute monster and one to watch out for in the future. Check out the bass solo in A1 (Northbound). We could all learn something from his technique, groove and general ability to be a lovely dude. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Anyone interested can purchase the record from the stitch web page or directly from iTunes and Amazon. Anyone in Edinburgh can also get it from Avalanche, HMV Princess Street and Coda. 3. Cheers dudes Think I am sorted now. Going for a Soundtech tingy from another user. G
4. I am in Edinburgh. Feel free to drop me a line should you need a hand at any point. Garry
5. Basically something around 300-400 watts that will happily power a hartke 410. Weight is an issue. I had a QSC amp but it weighed a tonne. G
6. Octaves, thirds, fifths are your friends. As is the simple triplet rhythm. Start by tapping out a cool rhythm (or record it) and then add notes to it (the aforementioned ones are a winner) and see where it takes you Good luck. G
7. Don't bother. I don't risk anything if my gut tells me otherwise. Alternatively, have him put it on eBay. If he is serious then the fee's wont be a big problem and you will get the in built protection paypal has to offer. Garry
8. Hey man, what do you mean by 'routed to your requirements'? Could you rout it to fit a geddy lee jazz bass neck, john east control plate and pair of stadard jazz pups? Also, could it be pre drilled for a badass bridge? G
9. Awesome man Take it you didnt catch Stanley Clark then? Garry ps - your mate needs to address the mono brow situation...
10. Hey Guys, The going second hand rate seems to be £160-£170 so i am asking £160 plus shipping - for mine. Its recently had a new firewire chip installed and a full service by M-Audio so is also covered for 3 months (basically an extended warrenty) by M-Audio. They are happy that it is as solid as a rock. This really is one of the best ways to get 16 channels of audio (more than enough for a band) into a computer and is even compatible with Pro Tools. It has 2 headphone outputs and countless audio routing options. Whats more is that it has 2 pre amps on the front. All details and specs here: http://www.dv247.com/invt/22278/product.ht...vxIcg_a_3d_a_3d Grab a deal before i eBay it. Cheers Garry
11.
This is the exact way I've gone about it. I spent 130 quid on a used MOTU 828 (firewire) giving me 8 simultaneous channels, two channels of phantom power, in 54Khz resolution. (That's CD quality to you and me, but do bare in mind many people reccomend recording in 96Khz and dithering the final mix back down to 54Khz. I don't.)
You do mean 44.1khz? You don't get 54khz as far as i was aware. Its i 44.1khz or 48khz (the film standard) and multiples of that going up (88.2, 96, 176.4, 192...) G
12. And, the PG shure series stuff is ok. Certainly not as well crafed as the SM series but IMHO sounds muddier and doesn't have the same 1.5k boost that the SM57/58's have. Also, SM57's (the most versatile mic you could want to own) can be picked up for £50 (go have a look in the for sale forum) which is only £10 more than the PG series. If you are looking at a good condenser then I also recommend the AKG Perception 150 which, for £50 on ebay new, is a bloody steal for instruments and such like. If you are looking at vox then the already mentioned Nt1a is a winner. The main thing I have to stress is that you will be amazed at how fast you will outgrow restrictive and budget gear. That is not to say you can't kit out a studio on a budget, just make sure you get the best sound card you can, the best couple of mics you can and, in 5 years, you will still have and be using them. Good luck G
13. Hey man, When starting out simplicity is gonna be best. Having external mixers and sound cards (two expenses) plus the cost of cabling it all up (ts not cheap) is a lot. I would go for something like: http://www.dv247.com/invt/22278/product.ht...vxIcg_a_3d_a_3d Which is compatable with pro tools and is upgradable to 16 microphone inputs at once! It also just so happens that I have one for sale for £170 which is very good money for the amount of i/o you will get. Garry
14.
Cheers Garry. I'm glad it got to you eventually. Bloody Royal mail! smile.gif Have you tried it with a bass yet? I would have used it in my rig but it was just an extra thing to carry, and I don't drive as it is.
Nope. Its gone into my studio rig. Using it for drums and anything else that needs a mangling. Cheers Garry
15. Filter received. Many thanks. Mikey is a very good seller to deal with. Recommended. G
16.
They pretty much do the same these days.
And lets face it, if all you need is audio in and sound out, Audacity could stand up to the giants. I like Pro Tools and have used it for years. When you get up to tracking 30 odd channels at once it just operates so much better than the rest in my opinion and is designed to be used effortlessly. I think this more in the interface (actually how things are laid out and 'feel') than what it does over the likes of Logic and Cubase. Nice to hear of one of the underdogs getting praise though. G
17. i will take 5 meters drop me a final price and a paypal address and I will get it to you. Garry
18. Hey man, finally got through most of it. Very good work. Everything is clear and precise and well documented. Hope you get what you deserve for it. G
19. This is a lovey neck to play and would make a stunning upgrade to any jazz bass.. I really like mine. One of the most comfortable necks i have played. G
20. Ok, no reply First to pm me with address gets it G
