  1. Absolutely. I have room in my life for a 70s Fender Mustang in black with a maple board. Moslty I have read this combination work out to be extremely heavy at nearly 10 lbs but I saw one on reverb for sale in the USA that was under 7lbs. Weird.
  2. I bought this when David posted pictures on the forum - a seriously bad bout of GAS that I simply couldn't resist! I decided to go for no scratchplate, which I prefer, rather than have the scratchplate and take it off with the resultant screw holes. There were a couple of teething problems. First off and straight out of the box the input jack was shorting out. Went straight back, issue resolved by return of post. The first time I used it for any length of time the sound became intermittant. Guitarist in my band is an electrician and he tested it - the problem was the pickup itself. I relayed this to David and he sent off a replacement pickup immediately. And that has sorted that out. Also the background hum, which I assumed wrongly was because it was a single coil - nope, the new pickup is quiet. So here it is. A scaled down, slab-bodied 50s style Precision. Binding on edges. 30" scale, 38mm nut, telecaster headstock. A trifling 7lbs. Single coil pickup. Now strung with my favoured TI Flats. Fit and finish are great, hardware is solid. It is an absolute joy I've not had a single coil Precision before and I immediately love the tone. Full on it is bright and it doesn't take much pushing on the TC Spectradrive clean boost to get a nicely saturated gritty sound that is perfect for my blues rock band. Perhaps rolled off a touch for the sweetspot. The neck is sublime in terms of how it feels plus the vintage tint isn't that ghastly shade of turmeric like some. I can see this being the one I grab first when it comes to gigging as it is just so easy to play. And of course a huge thank you to David @Bassbadgerwhose customer service has been second to none.
  3. Peavey Fury. Made in USA 1988-90 (I think), Precision-a-like but with a really slim neck. Stock pickups are pretty aggressive. For some completely inexplicable reason they usually change hands for under £300, often a good deal less.
  4. Good to hear. Flowers are bad news for bamboo.
  5. OT question - your bamboo. Is it flowering? I have one of those (a 'Speccie' ) that has been partially flowering for about 10 years now. Not dying - but not growing much, either.
  6. My band Toredown, rehearsing a couple of new tunes. Here 'The Stumble' https://www.facebook.com/100002647479877/videos/pcb.4507033619394843/3186428671682953
  7. I've tried loads and loads of flats and would say each brand has different character. Of those I have tried, TI Flats are probably the most different in that they are quite bright and low tension. Some are extremely high tension (eg La Bella Deep Talkin flats), some are dull thuds (eg D'addario Chromes), some both. I love the feel and sound of TI Flats and have them on all my basses (costs me a fortune) apart from an EB3 that seems to sound better with that extra zing from rounds. So I'd say that if you like TI Flats you actually might not like other makes of flats. Similarly anyone wanting to try flats - until you have tried TI Flats don't write them all off as dull thuddy things.
  8. Stunning work, Andy. I reckon it's your best yet.
  9. OOh I like that expression. I will look for ways to include that in my festive engagements.
  10. I think that, for me, is the crux of my issues with him. He is simply not very good but guilty of believing his own pr - which is a cardinal sin. For my money, he hasn't played a genuinely cutting edge solo since the early days of Cream. He moved on from Gibsons, seemed to forgot there was a bridge pickup or that the tone could be opened up a bit rather than that awful comb and toilet paper sound he has seemed to favour ever since. But also a hypercrite - having stated publically he would boycott venues that asked for Vax passports he has since played one. https://guitar.com/news/music-news/eric-clapton-breaks-vow-to-not-perform-venues-covid-vaccine-requirement/
  11. Gosh, that's had a hard life.
  12. I have just the one - so far? - a short scale 50s slab bodied precision with scaled down body. Under 7lbs and a lovely thing.
  13. Thanks Davie. 6lbs sound marvellous!
  14. The Fender Precision Lyte basses ( and later Zone basses) had smaller than your average Precision bass bodies that were the same size as Strats. Might even have started off life as Strat bodies. Nice instruments.
  15. I had a 70s Faker last year. I loved it to bits but it was way too heavy for me to keep. However it seems my Ric itch still needs to be scratched but perhaps not to the extent of forking out for a proper one. I understand that the Renegade basses, like much of the Retrovibe gear, are excellent value for money. I have some questions for owners if you'd be so kind as to help. How heavy are they? That is the biggie, really. Or, hopefully, the smallie. Do they upgrade easily with the Ric pickups David has on the website? And, if so, do they sound anything like a Ric? Muchas gracias muchachos y muchachas!
  16. Roll a pizza? ROLL a pizza?! Good lord. One might push and stretch but never roll.
  17. Delusion, certainly.
  18. Precision bass. Anything else can vary
  19. I didn't know you were in contact with my ex-mother-in-law, Andy?
  20. Me too. I like the simplicity of it. One issue I have found is with a recently bought a bass that has a slightly dished/recessed input jack and the bug won't connect properly. I could get around that with a short extension but most likely won't bother.
  21. A band I was in for a few years used to have an xmas get together where we would review our existing set list and also potentially new songs. We would all mark each song out of 5 and the lowest scoring ones would get ditched. There was always room to sabbatage it by voting 0 for songs we didn't like, regardless of how they went down with the punters, but generally speaking we were all pretty honest and it kept the set fresh with new stuff.
  22. When I first started to play bass I used only a pick so therefore I suggested play absolutely anything. To get the various pick playing techniques it doesn't have to be all heavy attack. Plus.... there are currently just shy of 47,000 members of Basschat... the thread might end up being a little unweildy if everyone recommends thier fave pick tracks
  23. This. Anything can be played with a pick - so if you are trying to get used to it use ot for everything.
  24. I'm more interested in his choice of plants. Wouldn't have thought they'd all be hardy in Rotherham although I grow them here on the Essex Riviera. Then again, they look newly planted so maybe haven't had a winter yet.
  25. Or... a bass with a carousel fitted to the front with that same selection of pickups - just rotate it to the desired pup, bit like this chap. By Balcer - File:Lewis gun St Thomas 6.JPG, CC BY 2.5, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=54223921
