Hipshot detuner for Sterling by Music Man SB14?
Paul S replied to Paul S's topic in Accessories and Misc
Final update on this - Best Bass Gear sent me a replacement foc once it was back in stock, marked value was $1 so as to slip through the duty net. BT7 is a straight fit for the Sterling size headstock. Sorted!! -
I bought this stand for no money, its my third one. It folds flat and goes into my gig bag pocket. Not good for Jazzes. http://www.ebay.co.u...49#ht_998wt_946 Perfect
I bought one as well - and yes, perfect!

I have my new bass head, Now for a cab.. Any Idea's?
Cost is all relative too, really... I borrowed a BF S12 and it's everything I could ever hope for, but I can't afford one - so it's down the 4X10 route and ongoing back pain for me!
I decided that once I'd factored in visits to an osteopath at £40 a go Barefaced cabs are saving me a fortune! The crystal clear sound is a happy by-product. -
Given that the topic title is 'I have my new bass head...' But I do agree with you entirely, rig choice should be about which amp and cab works best together for you. Among other factors of course, such as cost, portability, genre, design and so on...
Well, yes, for the OP it is a less than useful observation - which was aimed more at folks who are struggling with BF cabs generally. Given their transparency I don't see how blame for a 'bad tone' could ever be laid at their feet, really - I suspect it brings out something in amps that was previously unheard. But sound is very subjective - all I know is I am increasingly impressed with my BF rig, I must say, and teaming it with the Genz Benz vs TC 450 has made a huge step forward as far as my ears are concerned. Again, not an observation the OP would find useful. -

I used my TC Classic 450 through a Barefaced Compact and Midget used singly and in combination and thought it all sounded great. I now have a GB Streamliner 600 paired with the same cabs and this sounds *more than* great - the contrast is quite marked, in fact. It seems to have opened up a range of sounds that the TC hid somehow - is this the compressed squishing people talk of? I have read on here many times that the BF cabs are transparent and will only articulate what goes in there - this has been my, albeit limited, experience, so maybe folks that are trying BF cabs should look at their amps, rather than the cabs, if they aren't happy with the sound. -
halp! Just bought a Hohner B2a from fleabay and think it's broke
Paul S replied to mr bassie's topic in Bass Guitars
A picture would help at this early stage as the description of the controls doesn't sound right. There should be neck pup vol knob, bridge pup vol knob, a stacked knob for bass (outer/lower ring) and treble (inner/upper) plus the active on/off switch with red light to indicate it is active. I did have one that was different to this which was apparently a very early model. -
Amp, too, but that could go straight back onto eBay. 99p no bids as yet. No pics, says it has been bumped, but there is not much can go wrong with these. Beautifully made instruments imo - superb necks - and just ripe for pimping. I have one with a J. East P-Retro and Kent Amrstrong pup and it sounds the mutts. Lightweight, too. I Know Nothing.. P Bass Circuit Help Please
Paul S replied to Billy Apple's topic in Repairs and Technical
Another vote for KiOgon - hardly worth getting the soldering iron out when you have a drop straight in, top quality bit of kit for not a lot of money. Check out his feedback! -

Only if it is you that I hear with the crap playing, not me. Love that emoticon btw, never looked at the expanded list before!

There some great covers on that Metallica album! I like their version of Queen's Stone Cold Crazy. Can we include people covering thier own numbers - one of the best I have heard recently is Tom Jones singing Delilah mariachi style at the Jubilee concert. Brilliant. Our singer usually says at some point during the gig 'if you have any requests let us know. If it is on our list, we'll play it' which usually gets a titter and the message across. I don't get the whole 'the crowd are paying so you should play what they ask' thing. You've only got to read the threads on here to see how diverse music is and it is totally unrealistic imo to expect a band to be able to play *anything*. We play what we play, based on what we are capable of playing to a decent enough standard. We aren't professional musos, just a bunch of middle aged guys having a laugh who just happen to make a lot of people happy when they come to see us. As far as I can see the whole pub band thing is pretty Darwinian and if people didn't like what we do we wouldn't get booked again.

Pink Turtle do jazz and swing version of rock classics, here is 'Smoke on the Water' http://youtu.be/OeQ2GgGivPo

Taking of Hendrix covers, this a great version of what I consider to be a really weak original - Freedom, covered by Steve Lukather http://youtu.be/jOmgg-1B85A

Indeed, if you were to have typed the word 'cables' into the search box, predictive text would have written 'OBBM'. If you are particularly good at soldering, or it is a skill you want to learn or practice, it is possible to make decent ones with quality components. I did for a while but have now seen sense. Off the peg IME you simply cannot get better for the money and the service is second to none.
Next time you're in the Essex Arms (know it well) see how you get on with just the Midget, I think you'll be surprised. Having an almost identical set up (mines a 900) I now regard a Compact AND Midget to be overkill for anything less than Glastonbury.
I will most certainly do that. We are there fairly regularly so I will get a chance to use the Midget then the Compact - as you say, seems silly to take both. Generally, as a stand alone I prefer the Compact but when I tried the Streamliner at home to find some settings I used just the Midget (Mrs S was out, neighbours on holiday!) and it sounded great. Rehearsing with the heavy rock band tomorrow night so will get to try it out with the Midget there, too.

I very recently bought a Streamliner 600 on here and gigged with it last night for the first time. Stack was a BF Compact + Midget (so full 4 ohms) + isolation mat on a raised wooden stage (Essex Arms in Brentwood if anyone knows it). Smallish venue, will take 100 at a squeeze but sadly not many folks there last night (shame as we played quite well!). Band plays lightweight party pop rock - standard pub fare - with a loud drummer. Active bass - Fender Precision Lyte with J. East pre-amp - this has a resonably low output compared to some of my basses, it has to be said. Anyway, back to the amp - I hadn't had much time to investigate what the possibilities are so I kept it simple - I had the gain engaged, most of the controls at 12 o'clock except I favour a mid scoop. By the time we'd finished sound checking the master volume was barely off the starting point - maybe 9 o'clock. *Huge* amount to spare, can't see ever needing 900W. Have to say I absolutely loved the tone. Compared to my TC Electronic Classic 450, which I do like, it has more definition and more natural warmth from that tube preamp. Looking forward to giving it some welly with my heavy rock band - I'll try upping the gain and the mids a bit more. But I think the Classic 450 is going to be relegated to 'back up' now!

Bought a Genz Benz Streamliner 600 from Martin in a supersmooth transaction. Good comms, amp arrived well packaged, delivered next day, very pleased. Thanks!!

Might be a daft question but why not have the transmitter attached to your belt/in your pocket/whatever using your choice from any of the things discussed below. Then all you need to do is unplug the bass and plug in the new one. Pretty well all our set lists have already been put up. One of my bands does 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' based on a version by Hall and Oates. Starts off slow, everyone sings along or dances, then it takes everyone by surprise when it suddenly rocks along a bit. Really goes down well and is nice to play. Heres the Hall and Oates one.
Anyway, Bill seemed pretty good to me when I saw him a few years ago with the Rhythm Kings - a bunch of great musicians at the top of their game having a great time with some great songs. Why can't people not just revel in enjoying the music?
+1. I've seen them a few times, they always play locally when they tour. Great mix of music, played briliantly. Albert Lee is a superstar!!
I use one of the LowePro Rezo 20 camera cases. Perfect fit and 4 quid from Amazon
Great tip! I have just bought a Line6 unit and have one of these camera cases already - didn't think to use it but absolutely spot on! Incidentally - the Maplin small flight case http://www.maplin.co.uk/small-flight-case-222024 is pretty much an exact fit for the Line 6 G50 and all its snugly fitted packaging - drops straight in from its original box (with a small surplus on the side). A little extra padding on top or underneath makes it perfect.

Anyone in Essex good at Guitar electrics???
Paul S replied to binky_bass's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi Russ I don't know where in Essex you are based but I use a guy called Chris Cutmore for most of my more technical stuff. He lives in Thundersley and if local he will collect and drop off free of charge. He also charges so little for his work it is barely worth doing it myslef unless I want to practice something! If this is appropriate PM me and I'll gladly pass on his details. Cheers Paul -
