1. I know what you mean. I had originally decided not to - even though it was on my watch list, having moved to 32" scale it seemed silly to get another long scale again. But when it didn't sell I lost my self-control. The best bit (apart from the price) is that it only weighs 8lbs. As soon as I get the black plate on I'll do a post on it.
2. I couldn't resist. I got in touch with the guy and we came to an arrangement. I went to collect it this morning and have to say it is an absolute peach. Seller bought it new in 1983 - it is completely original and almost no wear as he is mainkly a drummer. A near perfect 57 re-issue in my favourite colour way - I'll stick a black plate on it, I think. Everything is right - neck stamp, cloth wires, green cap etc. Neck was bowed but straightened immediately with a tweak to the truss rod. Some nice figuring in the maple, too, which itself is a rich warm caramel.
3. Bought a wireless transmitter pouch is the smoothest of transactions. Thanks Jon!
4. A couple of times I have bought basses from Japan that were sent via DHL and it was a DHL van that delivered them. In one case I missed the delivery and the driver rang later in the day to see about re-delivering in the afternoon. Add to that 2 days door to door from Tokyo and I was very impressed.
5. I have recently acquired a Squier Musicmaster Vista Series and it has absolutely no shortage of growl. Aggressive little beast, all things considered, but tamed to something very interesting with the tone rolled off 3/4 or more.. I reckon these Vista models are absolute gems.
6. Always worth repeating, this one about creating your password: http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/creating-a-password-cabbage.jpg Decided to link it, rather than post it, as it has rude words...
7. Reminds me of this http://youtu.be/50A9wjJ40Dk
8. I'll have the Levi pouch, please - might work out better than my back pocket. PM incoming.
9. There was a single bid on it for a day or so but that must have been retracted. I can just see that sitting in my bass rack... along with too many others, sadly.
10. Thank you. Too wide, thankfully. Once again, another sleepless night avoided It is a stunningly good looking bass - black, black and maple are my favourite combo and there's something rather nice going on in the neck grain, too. This should go really quickly.
11. Gorgeous. My inevitable question is - how wide is the neck at the nut, please?
12. Boxing day price reduction bump to £450 plus carriage.
13. Hearth Vader? I lost the plot around 2:35.
14. Sonic blue for me. I just acquired a bass in sonic blue and it is cool as anything.
15. Graham and Truckstop - muchas gracias! I see a few hours on headphones coming up over the holidays!
16. Mail order cakes for xmas - Yule log in post. Or has that been done?
17. That neck dive would take more than a wide strap to cure.
18. anyone remember this? http://youtu.be/sBmYkXVteaU
19. I was expecting a link to this listing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Low-Rider-Shred-neck-Bass-guitar-practice-tool-/252224462584?hash=item3ab9bfdef8:g:ap8AAOSw~otWe~Wj Although I think less is less in this case.
20. I have to admit I have never really got a grip on all the various sub-genres of Heavy Metal music. Then again, I did kind of stop listening to it all after Black Sabbath. Could someone (or some people?) please list all the various types, describe what makes them distinct and - ideally - link to an example? Obrigado
21. Back to the OP, I am guessing that if you fitted a 34" scale neck to a 30" scale bass body, even if there was enough room to move the bridge backwards to make it intonate correctly it would presumably neck dive like crazy?
22.
I didn't know of her existence, actually - I merely Googled 'Loggins' and 'Bikini', hoping to see a picture of Kenny Loggins in a bikini. The fishing angle is just a bonus, obviously...
Kenny Loggins in a bikini. Of course.
23.
Actually this thread is making me go all misty-eyed...
I find it slightly discomforting that you knew of the existence of Ms Loggins And although educated at a 'boys only' school I've never heard of the euphemism 'tie one one' before, either.
