1. First Bass Owned: Sumbro Jazz copy 'Go To' Bass: Geddy Lee Jazz 'Your' Bass: Geddy Lee Jazz There seems to be theme here!
2. I'm the sort of bass player you don't notice until they stop playing. That's when the song starts to sound OK.
3. Oh well, good job we're not a tribute band!
4. Tad confused here. I've always played the bass part under the solo on the E. I've also always played the high part as G/G octave/F#/F# octave (to be honest, I often cop out and play this part starting on the 3rd fret, but if I'm feeling brave I'll go up and down from the 15th). So have I been playing it completely wrong for the last xx years?
5. This takes me back a bit - 1977, if I remember correctly. Sumbro jazz copy (and I use that word loosely) into a Vox AC50 and a homemade 1x18 cab. Sounded great but needed two people to move it.
6. As long as it's said with a tone of proper respect you can call me pretty much whatever you like.
7.
Bass. Cable. Amp. Job done. Nothing against effects but just not for me
Snap
8. I can also recommend this guy Martin's Guitar Repairs. He's a bass player as well. 30 mins drive from Watford
9. Quit the band last night. Played a social club in a small village near Stansted airport. Normally I really look forward to a gig but last night all I could think of beforehand was that it would pay for a new set of strings. The band have been p*%%*ng me off for some time and last night was typical - guy with the PA was late as usual, so a rushed sound check, the drummer and guitar player changed things around at random, the singer called one song and started another, then broke a string on his acoustic and didn't have any spares, etc etc etc. It being the coldest night of the year didn't help and there were about 15 people there including the bar staff. So at the end, I took my money, said thank you very much, and left. And immediately felt so much better. Should have done it ages ago.
10. i was interested as my one is getting on a bit now, but don't really use it very often and when I do I can't seem to use it ProPERLy. but have a frIDay TIM on me
11. Anyone else noticed a difference depending on whether the electricity in the venue is supplied by nPower or Eon?
12.
When I play it I'm guilty for playing the main riff, BUT we don't have a keys player and the guit*rist couldn't get his head around it, so I just stuck it on a slight delay and did some doubling as well. It was always a hitter until I quit the band just over a week ago
Hey goblin, thanks for the info. That's exactly the reason I'm playing the riff. You talk abut 'delay' and 'doubling'. Could you please treat me like I'm a total novice when it comes to effects and explain it to me really simply. Is it as easy as wandering into the local music shop and buying an effects box, or is there something more complicated involved?
13. It's that keyboard riff we're trying to get. I think the original recording uses a Hohner Clavinet - I know I won't get that sound exactly but is there any effect that will get close?
14. My covers band wants to do Superstition (aiming for something close to the Stevie Wonder version) but we're struggling with the main riff - we just can't get that sound. Any ideas on how I could get close on my bass? It's a Geddy Lee Jazz with roundwounds going through a Hartke LH500 and a pair of 15" cabs. I guess I'm going to need an effects box of some description, but I'm not sure where to start. Any (relevant) suggestions would be appreciated.
15. Have you all been looking at my band's set list? I'll fetch my coat.................
16. Just bought a pickguard for my Geddy Lee Jazz from lapolpora. Safely received today, and just as described. Another decent Basschatter!
17. I'll be up for it if it's Cambridge or thereabouts.
18. There's probably a good reason why you don't see too many of these. ebay link
19. Recently recruited a female singer to my covers band so starting to add songs to suit her voice. Working on the old Kiki Dee song "I've Got the Music in Me" - if we can make that work it will be an awesome encore song.
20. Shocking - absolutely shocking. Embarrassingly, appallingly abysmal. First time ever I've shouted at a band member on stage. Time to update my profile on musofinder.
21. Rule of thumb for me is that if it sounds good on stage it probably sounds cr@p out front and vice versa.
22. What do you do with a bass once you've decided to part with it? Me, I'll sell it if it's worth anything, if not I'll donate it to a school or youth club - but I've never thrown one away. I can't imagine anyone else would, either. So, given that say Fender alone having been making making thousands of basses a year for the last 30+ years, where are they all? Is there a special place, like the elephant's graveyard, where old basses go once they've have reached the end of their useful life?
23.
Didn't the Bull & Gate have their own in house video service?
They still do. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEiy5X3Wf3g) is a clip from one of our gigs there. Not bad quality for something edited on the fly - but it costs you £40-£50 depending on how hard you haggle.
