  1. Hi from Jersey (New). More fun than T***Bass.

    Hello!

Welcome...and don't get in to that Thang where "my bass ain't good enough". My frettless bass had frets when I bought it, but also had a sign on it "AS IS" $30 US. No strap buttons, only one pu working, neck is straight and the J pu makes it sound like Jaco All The Time. Best Buy Ever. Oh, I also have $4K Chapman Stick. Whoops......
  3. I assume we are talking about the Stick. I just have too much fun/options with 6 strings in 5ths. The "bass" side in 5ths goes higher than the melody side. It's really something you get used to with the ability to realize lines on either side (or incorporate both) and the graduation of string thickness with timbre (for chord intervals, or it sounding like 3 instruments). I have tried all the different tunings, including 7+5, but I can't give up the 5ths, or the high 6th(12th) string, which I occasionaly tune High 4th (it's an official tuning-but I was messing with it before Greg Howard). I had 5ths tuning on my Pedulla PentaBuzz. Stick Strings. On basses if you're not afraid of truss adjustment and you don't mind tight or loose strings you can try almost anything.
  4. Happy - Pharrell Williams. Learning it on Stick 'cause it popped in my head
  5. Vehicle - Ides of March. - Blood Sweat & Tears, baby...
  6. I had to go back to the top of the post to make sure U didn't actually buy that. That be Ugly.
  7. Everyone deserves a Premium Bass. Nothing matters except your delight.
  8. I tune my basses any way I want. When I did have a 5-string, it was usually drop-D w/ a high C. Let's not even get into the 8-string... And of course the Dual Bass Reciprocal 12-string Stick. 5ths/4ths.
  9. It's not how fast they go. It's how fast they get THERE
  10. Yeah yeah they're fun but I'm 63 w/ a bad back. Even in the 80's I was using a Roland pre-amp into a Peavey 400 watt power amp into 2 CerwinVega 2x12s and got as much warmth, and feedback if I wanted, to toast biscuits. Today I'm looking for a nice combo that can keep up w/ a drummer and guitarist that still has his wits about him. And I use a PODX3 for my effects - the amp modeling are antique in that thing and I get great bass tone w/ the AC30 model, it's what you got and how you use it. But get a valve amp, I'm not gonna call the police.
  11. How's the Railboard sound thru it? And is the BC112 a bass cab?
  12. I don't mean to be snarky here, but... Every band I was ever in, everyone loved my "tone". Especially the drummers. Even when I thought it was lousy. So maybe what they liked about my "tone" was feel or groove, or note choice, not my "tone".
  13. Tony Levin happens to be the Coolest Stick Player Ever also. Nick Beggs 2nd runner-up for wearing a kilt.

    Hi-

We don't believe anything on TalkBass
  15. We have a "TV celebrity chef" here in the States named Bobby Flay. I interviewed with him when he had a restaurant in NYC. The man is completeley full of himself. (Oh that's right - he's a CHEF). I saw him on tv recently he was preparing something in his home kitchen and his cat was WALKING ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER. So happy he didn't hire me. I probably would have lasted a day or two. Before I stabbed him and went to jail.
  16. Oh no. Let's not start that. It's the owners that get on my nerves.....
  17. Probably. I've written about the song mention before. But a Bon Jovi tribute band would be a sad thing. It's just unfortunate that I have two famous artists from New Jersey that I can't stand, but are actually quite nice blokes. I've tried to warm up to "The Boss" but just can't. I don't like cats either.
  18. No it's not. I'm allowed. I grew up 5 miles from the chap, and he mentions my girlfriends father in one of his songs. (Hey Coach T., I finally cut my hair) Apparently The Coach always told Bongiovi to get a haircut. The Coach doesn't say anything to me. I want to say I find his altruistic work Extremely Commendable. (Habitat for Humanity, his soup kitchens) but his music? Meh.
  19. That would put me off a company. I mean, really? I deal with D'Addario I use 'em on everything (they make 'em for everything - Chapman Stick.) I know. Coated strings. They are pretty spiffy. But return to quote.
  20. I would think a proper garage bass would be most appropriate...
  21. I have an anecdote. My postal delivery person walked up to me one day, handed me my mail, removed his earbuds, and said, "Every band has at least one good song. Except Bon Jovi."
  22. Get a bassist from Basschat to replace guitarist. Get a bassist from Basschat to replace drummer. Rename band "Joined At The Head". (old name of band w/ 4 bassists-you can use it). Problem Solved!
