1. They are spanking new, haven't even seen a bass guitar. Didn't think about selling both together but sorry, £35 is too low. Willing to knock a fiver off, so £40 for both sets together.
2. Hehe, yep I guess it is! Although it would be 2 Midget T's or for that matter a Super 12T. I do have both my cabs plugged in, so it's more than just a stand. The bottom cab still flaps my flared trousers for showbiz-stylee (same as Beyonce uses a fan to blow her hair about) and the top cab is then my monitor.
3. What does it take to stay on the first page these days?
4. I got myself a couple of GK Neo 12" cabs, very lightweight and definitely worth considering. You'll get 2 for not much more than a single Compact cab. I did have the Barefaced Compact and again, it's very lightweight and a great sounding cab. In my opinion it didn't handle the rigours of gigging life the same as my carpet or vinyl covered cabs though ! With the Compact, and most small cab solutions I always felt my sound flapped by my trousers, wehereas I can stack the 2 x 12" cabs on their ends to give a fairly high speaker solution. If your after a Barefaced, I'd say go for the Super 12T as it'll sit at a decent high for onstage monitoring. Real "Bass Players" don't put their cabs on chairs
5. I recently (1 week ago) purchased this amp to replace my Markbass SA450. I'd always missed the valve pre-amp tone from my old Ashdown ABM head and so thought I'd try this amp as a lightweight alternative. Anyway, a great sounding amp but I've decided I need a bit flexibility in the midrange so it's not for me. Anyway, thought I'd offer first dibs on Basschat. Gigged twice, still as new and comes with power leads, paperwork and even the cardboard box ! Only trade I would consider is a Markbass Momark amp + some cash from me, otherwise cash only please. Pickup for £450.
6. Hi Lawrie I may have a Genz Streamliner 600 for sale if your interested, but downside is that I wouldn't be after a trade. I bought it to replace my Markbass SA450 but find that, although I love the valveyness (is that a word) of the tone I just couldn't get the sound I hoped from it. I'll probably look at a Momark chassis with valve pre and SA450 tone shaping. Anyway, I'm going to try it again on our hogmany gig but if it's not working then it'll be up for sale. 2 gigs old and unmarked and would be looking around the £500 mark for it. Maybe an option? Stephen
7. I don't think I'm following this FS thread, 2 days ago there's a listing by walbassist saying there are now 5 Basschatters in the queue. Then the next day, he bumps the advert. Is this for sale or not? Is it being held for someone. I'd be very interested and would welcome a PM if it's still up for sale.
8. Those 12" EAD cabs look great and I love the tilt on them. What weight are they going to come in at, just ballpark?
9. It's a bit more than just where an amp is manufactured. If Ashdown want to compete globally then I think it's a hard decision they've had to take.
10. I'm sure there's a lot of hard work gone into this, but I personally don't think the new look & feel is an improvement. Sorry! It might just be the old "resistance to change" factor kicking in and I'll certainly try to give the new-styling a go. Just wanted to say though as I don't think the old site was really that bad.
11. I thought it was Lemmy that played with Metallica
12. I had a Schroeder 410L that weighed in at 51lbs, so beat you by 0.7 lbs BUuuummmmpppppp...
13. Are you absolutely certain that the frets are original?
14.
Have you considered 35" scale though? I find it makes a difference on a five string with Jazz pickups
Funny, I didn't find it made any difference.
15. I still have these, sitting in the bottom drawer so.... 5-string set of DR Neon Hi-Def Yellow strings 45-65-85-105-125 @ £25 inc P&P to your door (UK only) 4-string set of DR Neon Hi-Def Yellow strings 45-65-85-105 @ £20 inc P&P to your door (UK only) The 4-string set is actually a 5-string set minus the B !!!!
16. Mmmmm, don't these answers conflict?
17. I just took delivery of 2 new GK Neo 112-ii cabs and they come with very nice 4-wire speakon leads. Because I use a Markbass amp I need to use 2-wire speakon leads. So easy question, can I convert the GK ones to 2-wire by disconnecting 2 of the wires or are they completely different? Cheers.
18. I must be the only person on the forum at the moment, but I've sold my Barefaced Compact cab and gone for a pair of the GK Neo 112-ii cabs. Many thanks to Mark at Bass Direct for his help and prices! There were a couple of things I didn't like about the Compact, but all my opinion. The painted cover I just never liked and I always had a preference for carpet or Tolex. No reason really, just my opinion. It was also just too short a cab and I always felt the sound passed my ankles. My racked amp was always wider than the cab and aesthetically I didn't like this. Lastly, as great as it sounded I never felt like I felt the sound (if that makes sense) Again, might be a problem that it was sitting low but even at a tilt it wasn't there. Again, this is only my opinion. So, I sold it and opted for 2 of the GK Neo 112-ii cabs. I've been pleasantly surprised to tell you the truth. This forum makes you believe that you've got to spend the big bucks on Bergs, Aguilar & Vanderkley cabs to get any decent quality sound. I can honestly say the GK's are great sounding cabs at any price and are lighter than a lot of the other 12" cabs. They weigh about the same as a Compact cab and are an easy lift. They are Tolex finish with a roadie-proof grill and sit just that little bit higher than the Compact so I hear things better and they also seem to let me feel the bass too. If I really need height I can stack them vertically at 48" or so which is well high enough to hear them even when I'm standing almost on top of my rig at some gigs. Important thing is, the rest of guys in the band like the tone too. Better definition on stage (although I didn't think the Compact lacked this) was what I was told and the drummer seemed to think they had more bite. Maybe the tweeter helps with this. It's only been my 1st gig and got another tonight so I'll add another update but wanted to let you guys know there's another player in the small, lightweight cabs department. Well worth considering. Cheers.
19. I'd say go for the 4x10" especially with the Ashdown cabs. I had both cabs and the 4x10's are definitely the better sounding, but that's just my opinion. More clarity and definition. Are Anderton's your local music shop? If not, I had email from Soundslive the other day saying their doing 10% off for Ashdown gear so you could save £47.20 and free delivery.

NCD!

I recently looked at changing my cabs (won't say it's an upgrade as I've gone from Barefaced to GK) and seriously considered the Vanderkley cabs and the ones that BigJim has for sale. My only complaint was 15Kg for a 12" cab is too heavy in my opinion, oh yeah and the cost at £575 per cab I really couldn't justify the spend. Nice looking cabs though.
