Not a cheap solution but we have a pair of Bose F1s which ‘the whole band’ go through and I no longer need an amp. Had some nice comments about sound too from other bassists who have seen us play - when I was expecting ‘why haven’t you got an amp’. This is for a ‘pub situation’ so I can’t say (yet) if any of the ‘bassness’ would be lost in e.g. a larger hall.

Yes, there arn’t many compatible things where you get paid ‘after’ you’ve done whatever you’ve been paid to do. The band that played my lads wedding got paid before hand. All the power is with the big brewers though. And with pubs closing at the rate they do round my way you’ve got a high chance it will be a different publican 10 days after a gig! 😂

simple multitrack recording software for Android

It’s got options so you can import/export. Not sure they are made to ‘interface’ with Cubase specifically. I’ve imported midi files then replaced e.g. the bass. -

I have cubasis which I got for £12 when there was a sale. I can’t say it’s ’unreliable’ but I’ve only really use it to ‘note down’ ideas for songs. I just bought a cable, not an interface, so can only record one track at a time. So, for me, ‘it does what I expect without any problems’. The added bonus is that it works very much like Cubase that I use on PC. -
Duct tape?

There was a stagg eub on here a while back for not much Dosh. Do people think that something like that is a way into double bass?
-
Aye, I stuck with an actual Helix for a long time as you just need a kettle lead (like with ‘normal equipment’). Eventually lured by the size (saving) of the Stomp.
-
If you (or anyone) has one of the massive ferrite bead ring ones (😂) I would urge you to reinforce where the cable meets the power block - that’s the point of the red tape. I have another that is c18 months old and because ‘the bead thing’ moves about, especially when stored, the cable had stripped leaving bare wires!

I remember those from an HD500 I had. Much more robust than the current ones. I’m on my second one already. It was replaced easily enough under warranty but a faff to sort.

This is what Congress with a stomp. I've got one of those adapter with a toothbrush that has a 'shaver plug'. The two pins go in the 'hole' and you can charge it from a normal three pin socket.

Thank you for all the input. We’ve decided to get 50 done by Cram. I’ll report back on whether our ‘fan base’ (if we have one 😂) decides to buy any!

Hola, For those using a Stomp with the Hotone 2 button switch this is a great replacement TRS cable: MXR 12” TRS The cable that came with the switch failed after like 14 months and I found some TRS’s don’t work. The people at Guitarguitar Camden were really helpful and happy to get some into stock so I could try it before I parted with any cash. So a big shout out for their customer service! And they have at least another one there if anyone needs one!

There’s a thread on the bass day that this grew out of (and is mentioned in) here: Bass Day Unfortunately I’ve engineering works on my train line so can’t get up to Dalston in time.

I wanted a Zon Sonus but as they never come up for sale ended up with a Legacy instead. Lovely bass but just not scratched the itch…

Aye, I can’t see me selling my Kestrel. I’ll have to give my kids your details 😂.

I was going to say Manson. There must be JPJs out there but you never see them second hand.

Yes, yes and yes. But it’s all horses for courses. I used to hate seeing a band and getting stuck in front of (insert whoever you like except the bass player here) and not being able to hear anything else except their amp. But the ‘sterility’ of getting stuck in front of a PA speaker with everything in it and wondering why I can hear the bass player when they are ‘over there’ is weird.

I always practice through headphones. That way Mrs Wombat isn’t shouting shut the f&^k up up the stairs 😂.

Am I allowed to say 'told you so'? 😉

Another reason to connect to a computer is to back the Stomp/device up. That way if it breaks, gets stolen, whatever (yes it’s an outlay) but you can just buy another and be up and running with exactly the same sound as soon as you restore your backup. No two amps will sound exactly the same (which is a good & bad thing). As with other comments I do tweak things using a computer (it’s easier to get into some of the settings) but got caught out when I started with modelling by being at a gig and not being able to tweak what I wanted. I would add that I don’t think any of the punters thought it sounded bad! I’d still like to get my hands (ears!) round the Global EQ but I have enough problems with bass, middle & treble on an amp! 😂

I’ve posted elsewhere that you have to ‘cold turkey’ working on the Stomp itself. No way is it practical to lug a computer to a rehearsal (or gig) to make any changes. You need to know how to do it on the unit. At least to a level of getting a usable sound (which is easy). Yes, all the knobs & flashing lights look daunting at first but it honestly becomes easier quite quickly. You just select and change one ‘thing’ (amp or effect) at a time. Yes, there are some parameters I generally leave - and I’m still not really sure what ‘sag’ is (something to do with the way valves behave). There are lots (prolly too many) help vids and several threads here. Whichever unit you buy you will need to learn that company’s ‘language’. It’s a shame you/we generally have to buy something before we can start.

Would you spend the time getting the best sound out of an amp? Probably. And you would do it at ‘gig volume’. Could you get an acceptable sound from an amp the 1st time you used it. Also probably. Would be the same with a Stomp/ other HX. You just need to apply the same principles and use your ears.
-
Totally agree for gigging. I didn’t put it right but the thrust was they were not welcome at all ie not at rehearsals either. Personally I use one there so I can get the song in my head.

We have someone on the Kent section who used to ask for musicians but ‘no one who has to use an iPad’ along with other demands where I couldn’t see where the ‘problem’ was.
