I’ve been waiting for strings. They recently offered a refund as they said they weren’t able to get stock but as I wasn’t in a hurry I decided to wait. Silly boy! Will give it a bit then try the credit card company….

For me I was meaning the ‘under a gazebo at a fete’ sort of event. I agree that if it’s an organised musical thing with venues/promoter getting paid then the band should too. Even if they then donate said fee to the charity. The open mic point is interesting. I play at one (for free) in order to help keep the Social Club going. But I think the person organising it gets paid but it’s fun to do… The originals band I play in do the open mic circuit as a lot of pubs don’t like you playing ‘stuff people don’t know’. On the plus side we can now ‘sneek’ originals into sets at the pubs where OMs are held as our songs are known to a lot of the punters.

Millwall changed my mind a few years ago. We are asked to play before a match and it was made clear early on (after being asked) that it was for the 'exposure' as no fee or expenses were offered. We were told we had to be there three hours before kickoff and no parking would be offered, just find somewhere in the roads around the ground (on as match day). It made me realise that many other places I'd played similarly took the piss. I may be 'amateur' but I've honed my craft over years. Yes, my choice to play and I'm very happy to play any charity gigs but now only generally play for a fee. Might be a cliché but how about they get 5 plumbers down there for 'the exposure'. I'm not often trousering my fee but I choose what is done with it, rather than the venue/promoter etc. And yes, as two members of the band were football nuts we did the Millwall gig. In December, with hats on. And it was great fun. Well, for me and one of the guitarists who used my barrow to move our stuff about the longest distance I ever had. But the others, who had blagged their way to a parking space, were locked in the ground till after the match 🤣.

Nathan or Rhino? I’ve always been a Quo fan so I thought it was cruel. Funny. But cruel…

I was at that Nathan East clinic! I remember Rhino Edwards was there and quite a few people pointed out that he might actually learn something 😂

Standard E and Standard Eb in the Same Set? - How Would You Do It?
Wombat replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
I have patches on my stomp semitone up and down and a tone up and down. I've used that in situations and no one notices... Of course it's a complete pain in the arse if you learn them in standard tuning and rely on the stomp and it doesn't work for some reason. But I guess that's the same as having a spare bass and having a problem with that.. On the plus side I've loved watching people in the audience wonder what I'm playing 🤣 -

I was in the Gibson Garage last week - to gawp at the Jack Bruce bass - and engaging one of the assistants into the ‘why don’t you ever have many basses in here?’ conversation they said that that was to change very soon! They told me on the QT that when the shop was fitted out the wall hangers were put in (wrong) immovable places meaning they can’t move the stock around and that they are too close together for basses. They then mentioned there was to be a relaunch of a ‘boutique brand they own’. I guess I’ll have to pop up and ask to see their Growler soon!

I just have a split after effects, before amp/cab/reverb, that I send to ‘send’ on the side and that goes to my amp.

I don’t think I have perfect ears but I think you do this ‘naturally’, especially on an unlined fretless. The only way of ‘knowing’ what note you are playing is to hear it? And I think we naturally stick with what sounds good. Indeed, on a fretted I sometimes feel myself ‘hooking’ notes to slightly sharpen them then realise the bass has gone out of tune. For me the vids have explained ’why’ I do certain things but I haven’t really thought much about why I think that. If that makes sense! 😂.

As low as 99.9%?

If you have an mp3 of it look for some software called Riffstation. It was a Fender app but whilst it’s not been supported for years you can find old links to downloads for PC. Load your mp3 into it and it will interpret the chords for you.

I would go wired from your sansamp & wireless from the desk to your ears. If you are playing a ‘venue’ and not near the desk you might need a long cable for your P2. Although it may be that it comes to a stage box so you would take the feed from there. as Walman said I’ve not experienced dropouts either. But I suppose there’s always a first time!

The Mackie desk has a mono 6mm Jack so if I put a stereo Jack in I only get one ear. Using a 6mm stereo/mono converter (mine goes to 3mm so I can plug my nux straight in). Not sure how that would work with xlrs I’m afraid.

No such thing as a stupid question if you don’t know! Either scenario would enable you to hear your bass. But you would only get the other instruments ‘ambiently’ through bleed in anything sticking in your ears. If they were making a good seal (as they should) I would expect this to be quite muffled unless you are playing really loud! I would expect you to plug in as you describe but take the feed for your ears from an Aux on the desk. This should enable you to hear ‘what you want’ or, if it’s a basic desk, hear either a shared monitor mix or what’s going out over FOH. For me either would be preferable to just bass. As for which set up I guess it depends whether you want to be wired ‘or not’. I have the Nux version of the Xvive. The comes in a charging case was one of the major pluses for me. Oh, and whichever way you go make sure you have an xlr/Jack or jack/xlr converter so you can plug in to any desk (I’m using a Zoom L12 with jack auxes, the popular Berhinger desks have xlrs).

I solved this on my Mackie desk by using a mono adapter (into the desk). Didn’t worry me as I wasn’t ’expecting’ stereo. Was too weird just hearing in one ear.
