Yeah, that would reduce weight, but who wants a cab with a big hole on top? It arrived as four 8 ohm speakers in series/parallel for 8 ohms. It had an over-spec power supply (46V-0-46, instead of 40-0-40) but only a single pair of output transistors. The connectors were wired so you only had the choice of the internal speakers OR and external 8 ohm cab. The suggestion is it was a bodge made when there was a shortage of 150W transformers. Effectively they made it 150W at 8R rather than at 4R. I added the extra Mosfets and gate resistors (the boards had the connections) which made the board into the 250W version (I got the schematics) which let me add the extra socket and rewire so, you can use internal speaker + external 8R, two external 8R or just a single external 4R. I should add that the output transistors' heatsink had the cooling fan used on the AH250 but not the AH150. All that is missing is the UV light! Incidentally the original output transistors had been replaced as had the speakers (one of them was wired out of phase!) so perhaps even with the 8 ohm limit the overspec PSU was all too much. It's been running well now for over a year, although rarely with a 4 ohm load - it's loud enough!

Looking For Left Hand Technique Exercises Please
Stub Mandrel replied to Mykesbass's topic in Theory and Technique
This is a nice exercise for one finger per fret. See how fast y0ou can do it, and just play it further up the neck if the first four frets are a bit of a stretch. Can you work out what it is without looking? I'm trying to convince myself to split my 1110 combo into a 19" head and a 4x10 cab. 63kg is manageable for me though, especially as I've fitted castors, reading this thread makes me feel it's a bit special and more reluctant to start butchering....

I'm lucky to have one of these, it's the dog's chestnuts (£169.99 direct from Antex, up to £299 elsewhere! https://www.antex.co.uk/products/soldering-stations/760rwk/ Best bit is all the other uses for a precision temperature controlled hot air gun - such as heat shrink and bending plastic.

The same reason they named a drum after a bass? <RATS - BEATEN TO IT!> 🙂

It's sort of a black box with two 10" speakers in it, a grille on the front and a logo stuck on ... that's not what you meant, is it?

Some of these files are very thin and the tapered round ones would be good for the base of slots: https://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Diamond-Tools/Diamond-Needle-Files

I'll be sending you a bill for my wasted £1.60 🤬

Which "Famous" bass players offer 1-2-1 online lessons?
Stub Mandrel replied to BadHands's topic in General Discussion
I've offered lessons to several famous bass players, but I was surprised by their lack of enthusiasm, to be honest. -

I was tempte to post a pic of my kitchen scales... But myxilodian. Specifically D Mixy. Because my favourite noodle is using the open D (mostly) as a drone and noodling in D mixy on the G string. So much so I am planning to make a bass drumstick with just D and G strings.

Looking For Left Hand Technique Exercises Please
Stub Mandrel replied to Mykesbass's topic in Theory and Technique
A phenomenal exercise for building finger per fret dexterity without being constantly fast is Jethro Tull's version of Bouree, there are plenty of rapid passing notes and good stretches across all fingers and strings, while musically it's plenty interesting enough to keep you engaged. -
Squier 51 bridge saddle height adjustment key
Stub Mandrel replied to oldslapper's topic in Repairs and Technical
If you don't plan on losing them, it's worth going for reasonable quality Cro-Va ball ended ones: https://www.screwfix.com/p/teng-tools-metric-ball-end-hex-key-set-9-pieces/4935x Great for things like adjusting truss rods with poor access and a godsend for getting into corners of flatpack furniture as they work at an angle. -

Yeeks! I have an Orange Crush 25 in my bedroom and A TE 1110 combo in my office/workshop 🙂 -

Looks good, unfortunately my TLRTs have run out for today 😞

Well to be honest, with my drumming skills any toms are a bit superfluous anyway...

The serial number may be held in eeprom while the toneprints are in flash memory. This is a not untypical way of doing it, eeprom tends to stand far fewer rewrites and is slower to access and suits factory loaded data, like serial numbers, but is easier to protect from corruption when uploading new data (e.g. if a toneprint upload gets interrupted). Unfortunately EEPROM is more liable to corruption from power spikes etc., I've had this happen on powering up chips on things I've made. -1 suggests it is reading all ones for the serial number bits so if EEPROM it has been programmed (default is for eeprom to read all zeroes). Alternatively the serial number may be written in a protected area of flash memory, this defaults to every bit at 1 which would suggest the serial has never been written, on reflection this may be more likely.

Back in the day I had three basses and used them all live possibly just for pose value 🙂 When covid allows I need to make sure all my basses get gigged at least once each!

Possibly unrelated, but today a 3.5 jack to phono lead came, so I've just connected up my PC to an old pair of w00x speakers via little 5W per channel one-chip amp I made yonks ago from savenged bits. Enjoying Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 🙂 Sounds better than it did through 5" speakers...
