  1. just out of interest, how are you going to sell your EP, in any format, if you don't do gigs, are you going to get mainstream radio play?
  2. used the one in Nottingham 3 times, about 3 years ago, like @kev b, had problems with the door code, every time we've not been able to get into the room with code they gave, wasted 15 minutes on the phone trying to get it reset and the equipment has never been what they promised, I had to use a keyboard amp, the last time we used it I took my own amp head. But others have used it and said it's ok, so maybe we were just unlucky, it is cheap though, get discount when you first use it so get each member of the band to book it and you get multiple discounts
  3. maybe I misunderstood the post, I thought the problem was buzz when playing above the 12th fret, but if you've got buzz above the 12th fret while playing roundabout the middle of the neck then too much relief might course that
  4. I'm no expert but I wouldn't have thought neck relief has much effect above the 12 fret, I would have thought string height is the issue if all the frets are level
  5. I do that too, don't bother with insurance if I can replace items from my savings, so just buildings and car insurance for me, statistically it's got to be cheaper otherwise insurance companies would go bust
  6. funnily enough I was just thinking this morning that we might finally meet at Butlins in February, guess it's not meant to be. One of the reasons why Knock Off have been successful and my band hasn't is your willingness to slog round the originals circuit when we never fancied it, it's tough, especially if you're trying to hold down a regular job as well. All the best for the future
  7. just got a WL20 unit, very pleased with it, will be a bummer if it only lasts 2 years, I was hoping someone would have figured out how to replace the battery by the time it needs one

yep, or you can set up a bypass patch, I can't tell any difference but some might, also I don't always manage to press both pedals together so get another patch instead
  9. just watched last week's show, one thing really struck me, Jools really ought to button his jacket up to hide his big belly and high trouser waistline.
  10. OK I have to admit sometimes the lyric does matter and they do 'make' the song, and when a lyric hits the spot it can be quite emotional, but, generally they're just there to support the melody line and have a sing along chorus, except rap of course, don't like or understand rap, no melody, so the words must be important in them, I suppose
  11. Warhead - Uk Subs, an example of a song being about the bass line but fairly easy to play
  12. there's a lot to be said for "It's not what you sing it's the way you sing it" some awful lyrics sound ok when sung the right way, in other words with the right melody, I'm sure those Marillion one quoted by @Barking Spiders earlier are great in the context of the song but on there own, not knowing the song, they look nothing special to me
  13. 🙂 maybe I should have attached a poll.
  14. yep, I take a lot of care over lyrics, but I often wonder if I'm wasting my time when I look at the lyrics of songs, a lot are incomprehensible to me
  15. before we start please don't turn this thread into a Tory bashing thread, you'll only get it locked Just watched a video of Boris Johnson saying the Clash were one of his favourite bands (along with the Rolling Stones) David Cameron is also on record 🙂 as saying Eton Rifles was one of his favourite songs. I've had this discussion with our singer on several occasions, he really listens to lyrics and thinks they're really important, I say hardly anybody notices them apart from the chorus, I think Bojo and 'call me Dave' may just prove my point.
  16. which is why, on a lot live albums, the band plays songs quicker than the studio versions, IMO there's nothing wrong with that, just adds to the vibe of listening to a band live, after all if they're any good the crowd has an adrenaline rush as well
  17. well unless you've got a double bass that's your problem 🙂
  18. it's all about EQ, too much low end, below 60Hz, and it's a incoherent thump, too little around 100Hz and it disappears into the mix, IMO
  19. for a few of our songs, I start with a 1 2 3 4, Ramones style, then the band starts off at a different speed, but it's ok we just follow the drummer 😁, let's be honest if you don't it's car crash
  20. should have said mines an EVO III 500
  21. excellent customer service, which is what I got, however, valve drive on mine gives a noticeable overdrive tone, not Lemmy territory but heading in that direction, unlike the valve preamp on my Trace SMX, doesn't seem to make any difference at all
  22. be interesting to see a graph with the depth at 0 but the bass turned up, should result in the big cut at 30Hz and below but less at 50ish and above, in other words a steeper drop off at the really low frequencies, if I'm understanding the graph right
  23. absolutely, the quality of the average venue's electrics can be very iffy, no more tingling when I 'kiss' the mic
  24. yes I'm the same, I do like some new stuff (usually when it's similar to the old stuff I like 🙂 ), but I can't be bothered to look any further into it, also, I don't like going to gigs where I'm not very familiar with the band anymore.
  25. don't think so, it's something to do with the rehearsal room's amp, guitarist bought his own amp last week, no noise with the same lead, I think it's an earthing issue. I just wondered why wireless got round this, something to do with why you don't get an electric shock when using one?
