1.
Being the other side of fifty, I always feel a bit of a buffoon playing Teenage Kicks.
Why, do you stop w***ing when you get to 50?
2. anybody know how I can stop 'bidding has ended ' items going onto another page after about a second?
3. there's been quite a few threads about this amp, concensous seems to be great sounding amps very good value for money but early ones did have QC issues, as did mine, but once they were sorted I had no trouble at all, apart from the covering rips rather easily.
4. I've got a Marshall MB 4210 which I use with a 1 x 15 ext cab, it's LOUD, never got anywhere near full volume,
5.
+1 with the off the net tabs warning. don't know if any one else has tried this, a bit of software my bass teacher put me onto called the amazing slow downer, really useful for working stuff out. as the name suggests you can slowdown music without changing the pitch, you can try it for free too.
you can do the same with audacity
6. there is one major flaw with MIM P's, they don't make cack handed ones, bastards
7. be very wary of tabs off the net, some of them are way out, in fact I very rarely find one that doesn't need a bit of tinkering, either it's wrong or I cant play it and have to simplify it, i.e. cheat
8. bloody hell, I must be a sh*t bass player if monkey man is considered easy to play
9.
I've always thought the same. We can here a difference when we play them but in a mix its sometimes impossible to tell, which to me means it doesn't really matter.
IMO it matters live, I think a P cuts through the mix better, probably because as someone mentioned earlier the P is more middy (is that a word or have I just invented it?)
10. Beatles, I'm still trying to play the bass line to I saw her standing there and failing to get anywhere near the right speed, and he sings too! bastard
11. how's it go? I haven't had time to pick up my guitar since last week
12.
A conversation betwixt myself and my ex-band mates: Me: I actually don't mind hard auto tune if used creatively and as a vocal effect. Band: You mean like that Cher song? Me: Cher? Is that the best you can do? A 14 year old Cher song? Have you not heard of Kanye West, Daft Punk, Black Eyed Peas, T-Pain? Cue five very blank faces.
make that 6 blank faces
13. whenever I've done an audition, which hasn't been very often, a list of 2 or 3 songs is agreed on so everybody is prepared, this also sorts out the time wasters, the comment "I've not had time to look at them, I'll just wing it" is not a sign of someone who is going to be committed
14. Elixir nanowebs, they cost more but last ages, in fact the last time I changed a set, after about a year, I could hardly tell any difference, be careful when fitting them though, it's easy to damage the coating so they start shedding their 'skin' quickly, although it doesn't seem to alter the sound, just looks a mess
15. I had a Squire P once, it was crap, that's the price you pay for being cack handed, it's hard to try before you buy
16. I'm 60, could hear 12 khz but not 14, interestingly the ear I get a bit of tinitus in was slightly better than my 'good ear', no wonder I have trouble making out what people are saying in the pub, and that's not just "It's you round" either
17. IMO the ease at which music is available on the internet has completely devalued music and taken a lot of the passion out of it, a classic case of more is less
18. depends on whether you all enjoy playing them or it's just a load of compromises cause you've all got different musical tastes, which is not a good thing, I always say, 'if the band doesn't look like they're enjoying it, how can you expect the crowd too?'
19. there's been loads of threads on this subject, here's 2 http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1337619 http://basschat.co.u...nd-on-an-ampeg/ once JJ had broken his green P in half even he couldn't quiet get that sound again, it really is unique
20. The second quote is normally '..black shirts and red ties'... which is exactly what we and countless other function bands wear. So imaginative! think I'm going to change my avatar
21. got to agree with most of the post's on here, I've had a 4210 for about 2 years did have a fault when new but it's been no trouble at all since, would advise getting a 1 x 15 ext cab when you can afford it, it does make quiet a big difference
22.
Think my fave fun tracks are: Gangsters - The Specials A Message to you Rudi - The Specials Monkey Man - dunno who did the original Nightboat to Cairo - Madness There`s just something about ska that is, well such fun.
Monkey Man might be fun but I wouldn't say it's easy
23.
Well.. it's a bit of a silly question in the first place. Everything is easy when you can play it and difficult when you can't. Please excuse the kitchen sink philosophy
yes and no, I still have trouble with Monkey Man and Babylons Burning. Glad you resurected this thread, made me read it again, London Calling keeps getting mentioned a lot, I wouldn't have said that was stupidly easy to play, not properly anyway, or like I said before maybe I'm a crap bass player
24. trouble is a lot of the tv stuff is miming, what made the Bowie clip special was that they were actually playing, with no backing tape, anybody know what were the years that totp did this for
25.
Saw it,,,what I want to know is...how come it is acceptable for the camera man to have his own copies stashed at home... and he says he has others..!! Homework...???
That's probably why it's took so long to surface, who knows how much vintage stuff is stored away which has got there by dubious means, but with the TV companies wiping tapes clean it's just as well, offer an amnesty to everybody that's got dodgy recordings stashed away, who knows what gems will be revealed
