  1. I wasn't going to mention the tri colour LED, in case I thought shallow and flash, but clearly that's where this should be headed. ๐Ÿ˜ "FS/FT: Jaba 'lockdown fibre rainbow bass.' Control plate knobs are volume, pickup pan, stacked bass/trebble, and individual RGB intensity. Not good for metal, but great for Blues. Or Greens. Or Taup if you must"
  2. Question: rather than LEDs at each position, is there any manufacturer using a single brighter LED and running optical fibres to the position dots? I suspect not, but it would be interesting if anyone has.
  3. Blue and gold should look like this! ๐Ÿ˜
  4. It is definitely a lot more time consuming than just playing live. We now have, after 12 weeks of this, a folder full of songs so we are starting to reuse them. We have also said to the bands that they do not have to do a video of them singing! A background with words is absolutely fine. Thankfully my playing is nowhere near good enough to play on these songs, but I do spend a long time each week editing the service together once everyone else has their bits. This service has a mix of video types, band videos, words and background, and one bespoke song video. A mix of different video editors as well.
  5. So far my deduction from this thread is "pretty much any light mineral oil that isn't too astringant will be better than nothing".
  6. Skydd!! Great name for an oil!!
  7. Ah! I knew there would be something already on BC, but hadn't found it. Despite having posted in that thread. Thanks ๐Ÿ‘
  8. Hi all, I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the fretboard on my bass seemed dry, and a perhaps little rougher than I remember it. Not driftwood dry, but probably in need of TLC. I have never oiled it, but when I have cleaned the bass and strings I have usually wiped it over with one of those white microfibre sponges, and sometimes used a light guitar polish on it. Should I be oiling it, and if so what is a recommended oil? The fretboard is made of "Indian Rosewood", whatever that may be. Many thanks as always, Rich
  9. I'm glad you're posting these updates. I have an irrational desire to play a 5 string, despite my solemn oath to learn to play the bass I have before buying another. So following someone getting to grips over time has been interesting. I only played a couple briefly in Bass Direct before Christmas, both 35 and 34 inch. 34 felt easy, 35 felt a bit odd. Which is very strange as the only bass I own and play is 35" ๐Ÿ˜•
  10. If I have to write HLD documents on Saturday then it needs to be Quo on repeat!
  11. All has been revealed, and nothing to be ashamed of. Which is a pity in many respects, but at least won't affect the resale value.
  12. Likewise, I have no need for another bass, but something about this one is very tempting. Free bump.
  13. I think he's posted the reason, but in another thread. That way he can claim to have told us publicly what he did, but we can't find it. What's the BC equivalent of "on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard.โ€ "?
  14. I was struggling writing lyrics for a worship song last night, and so got distracted by working out the bass line. Realised just now that I had simply nicked the keboard riff from "Last train to London" by ELO.
  15. The original bet still stands as far as I am concerned, though I think the chances of me playing in church this year are getting pretty slim. Apart from CV19, and still needing to find another sound engineer so I can play in the band, the band leader's wife had a bass for her birthday in May and has plenty of time to practice playing with him on guitar. I may be out of a gig anyway. (What, she was muted the whole song? Really? I've no idea how that can have happened, someone must have changed the desk routing. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
  16. Windows user here. Been producing the online service for church for the last three months using LightWorks. It's ludicrously powerful, but you do have to watch the training videos first. The free version is fully featured, but will only export 720p for YouTube and the like. Will do PIP, 3D effects, pretty much anything you like. WRT your drummer's sync issues to the video. Check what frame rate and quality he is recording at. Some phones will record 4K and other massive resolutions, but to keep the file size down have enormously variable frame rates within a single video. On its own it may play, but video editing software will struggle to sync it. You can sometimes cheat by chopping it up into short sections and cutting away and back again. If people record in no more than 1080 and 30fps you should be fine. You may need to tell your software explicitly to use mixed rates as well, some phones default to 30fps, others to 29.7, and many use variable. Hope this helps.
  17. They'll be thankful you didn't request the whole of Topgraphic Oceans...
  18. Have to disagree with you on that one. The Maiden version is good, but just too straightforward. It doesn't have the leery, grubby, slightly unpleasant, feel of the original.
  19. Les Claypool on bass. If you like that sort of thing ๐Ÿ˜‰
  20. Now that is an impressive vice ๐Ÿ‘ Apart from gaining additional elbow room, I can see you could put a huge force through the clamp, and spread it over a long piece. Would it be even enough for laminated neck blanks?
  21. Mrs. R: What are you reading? Me: About a man building a bench. It's exciting because of something called a leg vice, which I have no idea about and I hope is actually related to woodwork. Mrs R: And that's interesting? Me: Well, perhaps not as mainstream as the article on the 1979 Aston Martin Vantage I showed you earlier. But we established that even though one would fit in the garage, and I have wanted one since I was 11, ยฃ250,000 is rather a lot of money. So I am reading about a man making a bench, as happiness is about achieving realistic goals. What is a leg vice BTW?
  22. It's an Andy build!! Best things on the internet. You can't NOT follow them! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘
