What's your fantasy Lotto jackpot bass gear shopping list?
Richard R replied to Painy's topic in General Discussion
No idea, I haven't played many basses other than the one I have and a couple of friends'. So, being entirely selfish, spend the majority of the dosh on getting this b@@#$%y virus under control - but solely so that we can restart the bass bashes and I can go and try lots of things! 😁 -
I saw the notification and was all excited to see progress on the bass. 🤗 Now it seems you have skipped the build entirely and gone straight to the Hendrix setting fire to it stage.

Love that phrase!!

Will do now I know who it is - thanks 👍. It will be at least next year before I do anything.

I was in a long meeting last week and when not required directly I was designing a bass with a black body and wood pickgaurd. That swooping shape is much nicer than I came up with! Is it proprietary and would the luthier mind if I copied it?
-
As per the rules - you're out if the purchase sits in the signal chain or affects the sound. So unless you are really sloppy and have paint in the sockets, or it's such a thick coat that it affects the sustain, I vote you are OK. Though there was something about presents in the small print too. Did you choose the kit?

What are you listening to right now?
Richard R replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
Ambient LF background drone, aka mains hum. At least until I muted the open lead. -
Spot on! Sometimes, if not most times, it's about the show as well as the sound and people remember what they see as well as hear: I wish I could afford to buy this for use at Christmas Eve services :

If you didn't want us demanding audio files you should have posted on PaintChat!

Being honest my New Music tends to be old music I haven't heard before, or new music in similar styles. The "What are you listening to now " thread here is a good source of stuff new to me, though seldom new, and Spotify is good too. Sometimes brand new bands appear on my radar which is cool. Since March though I haven't been into Birmingham city centre, so I haven't spent any time or money at my previous regular lunchtime haunts of HMV and The Vault. 😥

I fell asleep listening to Spotify, and when I woke up this album was playing. A great tribute to Gary Moore. -
Actually, now it is right in front of me, I can see it is an 8i6, not the (non existent) 8i2, or the (lovely but overkill for me) 8i20.

I have a Focusrite Scarlett gen1 8i2, which I bought 2nd hand eight years back and which must be about 10 years old. Works perfectly, records well, sounds fine. Gain bunching on the pots, but a decade ago almost all the interfaces had that issue. Last year I was trying to use it as an input source for conference calls but could not get it to work, so gave up on that particular activity. Last month for some reason I looked at the Focusrite site and saw updated Win10 drivers for all the Scarlett range, including new functionality for 1st and 2nd Gen. Installed at once and can now DI my bass straight into works conference calls 😄. More importantly the new drivers have slightly lowered the latency and definitely increased the flexibility for non DAW apps. If that's typical of their software support for older products I will absolutely be buying their gear again.

Ah, I see now. If we assume that the strap is adjusted so that the top horn is in a similar place when playing, then the headstock is only slightly further away from the shoulder and most of the extra length is behind the right hand. So the reach is about the same, but the frets are much further apart.

I actually dislike four-in-line elephant-ear tuners, and the typical Fender-ish headstock shape. When I first started looking for a bass to buy I would see all them all hanging on the rack is shops and thought most of them looked like thin d*cks with bulbous kn*bs on the end. Now of course I realise that if I'm playing then the biggest kn*b is the one holding the bass, but I'm still not a fan of that headstock shape.

I built my lad a go-kart with old pram wheels over a weekend. I hope your son appreciates your talent.

Welcome to Basschat. Where thread derailment is prized almost above the ability to play the ruddy instrument!! Lots of useful and helpful folks here, just be ready to switch directon faster than a jazz rock fusion band in show-off mode 🙂

That is just jaw dropping!! Very clever and very stylish with it, the James Bond of basses.

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the final guitar, and video of you playing it. Not because I don't believe you, but because I do 🙂. And videos of the Bass of Navarone - Great Name!!

Slow is fine, its 1000% better than "one day I will...", which is where most of us stay at. 🙂 What scale are these? The photos make them look enormous, but you mentioned 40" earlier in the thread.

Hello and welcome aboard. Post the question on then Bass guitars thread and I am sure someone will pop out who knows about Tokai basses. All I know is that they are by reputation rather good 👍

Welcome aboard! Lots of Midlanders here. Are you still restricted as to where you can go, or are you not in that area of Leicester? Stay safe, and Keep away from Basses for Sale 😉
