Excellent have you tried bass gallery London for pricing

So: Ampeg Portaflex cabs... seems the cab top unclips to expose the inside. Why?
(I'm considering a 210 so just wondering).

Check out my bands new single if you have a minute?

Anyone happen to know who played bass on 'Ain't no stoppin' us now': McFadden & Whitehead ('79). Had a google around but no luck so far. A bit tasty!
-
Oh no.....a bass I've wanted for a while has become available. £2k+ though.....what to do!?!
I should probably go try it and hope that it's rubbish haha-
Easy one, this! If 2k is the 'market' price then you can sell it on at nil or minimal loss. Say you keep it 6 months and sell on at 1800 (which you'd prob get it for anyway) then worst case it cost about 8 quid a week to lease it.
Forget the purchase price, just look at the potential loss cos that is the true cost.
This assumes you can rustle up 2k, otherwise see Daz39 above.
You're welcome😂

I've noticed that plectrum catches the strings on upstroke when alternate picking today, particularly when muting. I've not practised much the last few months with getting married and all so this feels like a huge step back and a basic skill to lose! Anyone else had this?
-
Had all kinds of technique issues with picks over the years. Do you think you may have tightened your grip on the pick, without realising? Another thing, try gripping with thumb forward slightly, finger(s) back a touch - to help the pick pass across the string. 3rd one is reducing how deep the pick goes into the strings. I've always found damping & pick fairly difficult anyway !

Support Basschat !
Quoting Ped: " And if you don't pay we have detector vans that will replace all your basses with Rickenbackers."
Well, I did some sums and I think I'd come out ahead. I'd just flog* the lot and enjoy the hunt again... *not here of course, get told off for trying to list a Rickie here.

I played power of love on a fretless and had the biggest grin. wheeeeeeee.
-
Huey Lewis I guess, not Jennifer Rush😁
I introduced that song to a past cover band's set list - great treat for the bass player!
Not tried it on fretless, never crossed my mind, but I will give it a go.
I did once do a whole rehearsal using the fretless and I don't think anyone noticed (it was a Jazz with lines) - either I did OK or the rest of band don't really care... I'll never know.

Shipping to Europe - had a nightmare with DPD January - collected from me then returned TO ME a week later. No explanation or credit from DPD. SO - anyone shipping basses into Europe at the mo' - successfully I mean. Me and @Maleco would like some help.

not alone then!! @Clarky - I got so p*ssed I started legal yesterday (small claims) not because of the 38 quid really, but their brick wall of resistance to any emails, calls etc. And the online chat they point you to is insane, started no5 in queue, 15 mins later, no8. WTF.
Looks like my bass ship to France will need to wait - sorry @Maleco

Just started a new course of antidepressants...
I couldn't function with the previous ones - these supposedly have fewer side effects but the list is far from short...including a deterioration for the first 5 days!! Minimum course is 6 months.
The thought of this is making me depressed.
-
Hi Mick, just seen this post. Sorry to hear of your troubles - I reckon the general state of the world at this time is getting everyone down to varying degrees. Hope the meds work, but take some small comfort in knowing you're not entirely alone - as Captain Tom says "Tomorrow will be a better day."

More Than A Feeling is harder to play than I expected considering I know the song of old. Nothing in it is particularly hard, but I'm a noob and it's stretching me. What fun!
(obv playing it on a 5 st not a DADG 4 Like an idiot)
-
Know the track of course, one of a small number of all-time stadium rock greats! But DADG(AD) tuning? That's the 'celtic' gtr open tune - Did Scholz use that on the bass part then.
Years since I played it (on a 4) and don't recall any weird fingering that might suggest a different open tune. I shall revisit.

The record company are putting our album out next month. I played bass and co-produced it. Just a shame we can't tour it! https://www.bucketfullofbrains.net/news/richard-davies-the-dissidents-debut-album-human-traffic-to-be-released-on-june-12th/

Lockdown symptoms: really weird haircut, and swapping out my EB Cobalt flats for a set of D'Addario steel rounds. Sound like stilettos through plate glass. This'll keep me amused for another day.
-
@ezbass - Agree about the 40 quid, the D'Addarios were about 22 so not too crazy. I do have LaBella white nylon flats on my Mayones fretless, they are radically different to the EB Cobalts (on my Jazz fretless) but they do have a really excellent voice of their own.

Big shout for DPD👏. Collected a bass Sevenoaks 13.30 yesterday, arrived Stockport today around 12.30. Smooth as really smooth stuff.

Chownybass recommended DPD a while ago, uses them exclusively I believe. Online wouldn't accept the booking so I called the local depot, lady told me to enter length as 1 metre then all fine (actually 1.35m). Just really slick and efficient. Highly recommended to all.
That's right @Kev - my bass was nothing like an essential delivery, just like the sideboard we got trucked from Pudsey last week. Things are still getting shifted, just as well otherwise our economy would totally collapse.

Bought a Mahalo MEB1 mini-bass from eBay. So many things wrong with it that I'm having to send it back.

Shock admissions - 2 of 'em. Just caught The Motors 'Airport' on radio 2 (that's the 2 admissions).
What an excellent bass track -well thought out, tasteful, drives the song along - in fact it is the song. Bass is really forward in mix and take it away, the track would collapse.
Well, there we go then-
all cool @SpondonBassed - we're all a bit on edge being locked up. Spotify for me today👍

@SpondonBassed (snigger). 'Still'?? This morning was Azure Ryder, this after some Bach fugues. Don't need help thanks, or opinions masquerading as facts.

Just ordered a new bench vice and a bunch of new HSS bits. Barely managed to resist the temptation to splash out on a pillar drill. Oh, the excitement of isolation.
