  1. That's pretty damn tight! Nice one.
  2. Nice! Well done.
  3. Nice! I think you've convinced me to learn how to use a pick.
  4. Nice one!
  5. Hi Everyone, I'd be chuffed if you check out my most recent recording. For those of you that are interested, the bass part was on a Schecter 004, through an Ashdown Little Bastard, Trace Elliot 208 cab, miced with an AT4040. The Drums and bass were recorded live, while pretty much everything else was overdubbed. I did the mixing in my home studio.
  6. Great work!
  7. It does record beautifully, I used it on my current project. I’ll have to hook it up to the guitar cabinet and give it a go.
  8. Zombie post! This was my gig rig recently on a small stage, in a modest pub. We are a covers band. My guitarists both use 20W amps with 12" speakers, and the drummer is not loud. The little bastard was able to keep up without going through the PA but there was not much left over. So yes, it can be done with efficient speakers in the right setting. I love the LB for recording and solo practice.
  9. Merry Christmas, everyone. My rig from last Friday's gig.
  10. I thought the bass butler had an optical compressor on the clean channel?
  11. Very cool, congratulations!
  12. Damn! The GAS is strong with this one…
  13. For gigging I want ergonomics, stability, and tone so my Ibanez Grooveline wins by a mile. At home, I’m more of a sucker for good looks so I want looks, and then Tone. My Epiphone Jack Casady tends to win. Unless I’m feeling the slab-like beauty of my Schecter 004.
  14. Today’s rig: epiphanies Jack Casady into the EBS microbass 3, and into the interface. Worked well.
  15. I had a Promethean P5110 combo for a while. Sounded absolutely fantastic for a about 12 months, and then it started spending its life at the repair shop. I still have the 1x10 cab it came in. If you find one of the old 500 watt heads that still works then grab it.
  16. Drummers! Wheel them in and sit them at the back of the stage. Good to see that you think of him as part of the backline. 😝
  17. while I love the sound of my little bastard, it does not meet my needs as a gigging musician. It just will not get loud enough unless I put it through an 8x10. My MB500 into a 2x8 or 2x10 is just more giggable. For recording and practices, however, it is hard to beat that valvy goodness.
  18. My preference, as the guy who has to put the mix together, is for the recorded sound to need as little work as possible at mixing time, but I guess I’m doing fairly old-school blues / rock / country style genres mostly. These days I find myself preferring a mixed up cabinet over a DI; somehow it just seems to work better.
  19. Happy Monday! Here is my silver burst Jack Casady.
  20. So recently it was my privilege to play on a friend’s recording. This was my setup, and it sounded great! Now show me yours...
  21. MP40.
  22. If it is only for recording purposes then EQ can be precisely added during mixing. As the preamp does the heavy lifting in terms of boosting a tiny voltage to a useable one then it is worth investing in this step of the chain. A simple setup such as bass > Cali 76 > Preamp > interface should give big clean sounds. If a bit of grit or OD is required then a bass-specific preamp will probably let you dial that in. If you get a decent (non bass specific) preamp you can use it for your acoustic guitars and vocals etc. as well as bass.
