  1. Cheers for this, good article, it does state that Spotify pays less than the other streaming platforms. Which i think backs up my not fair share, and I didnt even have to ask Karen and Dave on facebook
  2. Sorry I cant agree with "has done more for music than anyone else" more than the inventor of any recording media/equipment? Leo fender? Any artist who has innovated and created a style? nope, he's a distributor, thats it, very successful but just a distributor. In 100 years will remember spotify or him? I wouldnt think so, they might have an electric guitar, a john coltrane album on some format and maybe even an antique collection of CD's though. There is no doubt he's facilitated people hearing new bands but he's also IMO not paying a fair share, so these people may end up in an unsustainable business model. John
  3. Genuine question, If people dont like something, why watch it? There are things on youtube I know I wont like, there are short videos I know I wont like, so i don't watch them. I have watched a couple of videos by Charles and Danny, decided I don't mind Charles, not too into Danny (doesn't mean I think theres a problem with Dannys content btw) but I don't feel the need to watch things I know will annoy me then post about how annoyed I am on the internet. Anyone who is making a living from music is doing great and fair play to them, except the dude that owns spotify...cos that doesn't feel like a fair split of money Jonny
  4. At times when the forum debates guys like Charles or Davy504 or Danny Sapko i wonder if Im just from a different generation. The way i see these guys is they are related to music in the same way the football freestylers my son watches on youtube are related to pro footballers winning the euros/world cup. Its a related but slightly different thing, i wouldnt want these football keepy uppy guys playing upfront for my team, but i'd happily watch a 6 minute video where they use only their left ankle to knock the ball over the goalies head. Like wise i can watch these youtube videos, admire the technique and skill, but I'd rather stick on a nice jazz album I got from the record shop that listen to it with my morning coffee. As a day job for a bass player (i have no idea if these guys do much in the way of what we'd think of as traditional bass playing) it seems like a bloomin good one to me. Fair play and Im all for them. Jonny
  5. I had always just assumed he was inept when it came to running a business/building instruments. turns out there are more areas where he's lacking Jonny
  6. Done, hopefully this works better. Jonny
  7. Hi everyone, up for sale is my very rare Status Electro 3 bass. Graphite neck, rosewood fingerboard, mahogany body with rosewood top. Magnetic pickup and Piezo. Factory fitted D tuner on the e string as well. Thomastik flats on it at the moment. I have owned since new, built in 2004 I think but tbh i havent played it in a band setting for a long time, and there is a bass on here i really like the look of so its up for sale. Comes with the Status hiscox hard case. Sounds great just as a fretless should, with the addition of sounding quite uprighty should the need arise (i used to use it in a jazz piano trio and it sounded fab through my Phil Jones Briefcase. Theres a small scratch on the bottom horn (no idea how it happened) and when it was delivered there was a crack in the resin covering the graphite, this was repaired by Rob and he assured me ( and the alomst 20 years since) has shown its not structural. I may be open to trades, I'm a massive ACG fan, and I've always loved P basses but drop me a DM if you have an interesting bass I might be tempted. Price excludes delivery. Any questions just ask. Jonny
  8. oh wow, what a stunner. I had a TRB6p (Mk1) heavy bass but the neck was so great to play...keep thinking of getting another six and the TRB6 is always the one I think about. Jonny
  9. Thats a good description...thank you, you dont help my GAS for ordering a new ACG.... Jonny
  10. Absolute stunner Eude. How would you describe the sound of the BZ1 pickup? Jonny
  11. It’s a Cioks Adam, which if I read correctly is 250MA output. So am I correct that I would need either a doubler for it or another power supply?
  12. It says 9v DC 500mA, centre negative. Is that 500 Milliamps? 9v DC centre negative, is that "boss style"? Jonny
  13. Hi all, I cant ever seem to get my head around power supply requirements. I have a Zoom B6 and I was looking to add it to a pedal board, can i use the pedal board power supply for this unit? or do i need to stick to the supplied individual power supply?? Jonny
  14. In 1992, I saved up all my gigging money to buy a Fender HMT precision semi hollow bass, in black with cream binding. Neck was slim like a jazz played beautifully. Hated the pointy headstock and I had never experienced a piezo bridge so struggled to get a good sound out of it. Traded for a Bass Collection 5 string, which i loved, but to this day I regret letting that bass go. Heres a pic of one (which looks exactly the same) that was sold on here a few years ago....If you have one and would like to sell give me a shout, we might be able to work something out. Jonny
  15. stunning bass....If i had the cash I'd be all over this....
  16. You asked for one but its get one get one free day here so: String crossing exercises are worth practicing. If you are finding the feel of the low b difficult, try different types of strings. As an example I have been using fives on and off since '93, but I cant get on with taper core strings. Just never used any that felt right to me. Jonny
  17. Oh dear Eddie, I hope it works out but it looks like a repeat of previous issues for Mr Letts. Good luck man, really hope I'm wrong. Jonny

    Sire V5

I have a v7 five string (gen 2). Pros: Sound, looks, neck profile, features for the money. great b string (i think) Cons: Weight, didnt like the 5 knob preamp, found it sounded ok but too many knobs close together. Needed a set up Overall great gigging basses for most genre's, I've swapped out the preamp for a spare fender 18v one i had kicking about, mostly as it had less knobs but gave me mostly the same options. If I am in the market for a reliable bass to gig pubs/clubs etc I'd look at Sire again.
  19. This thread has me a little confused. I think the mods have been reasonable, fair and open with this issue. But the reaction from some other peeps seems a bit odd. hope it all works out for everyone though jonny
  20. Not for me, good luck with it for her, but i cant listen to it. Makes you wonder if shes there on talent or who she is. Jonny
  21. Oh wow Eude, this is an absolute beaut. I have a perfectly functioning kidney i probably dont need if you'd take that. Fingers crossed for a jackpot from somewhere that would let me buy this. Jonny
  22. Hi George, talking to your bandmates is a great step with this. Tell them how you are, they may be feeling the same and so a break might be good for more than just you, or help them find a dep, either for all the gigs for a few months or for some gigs. These guys are pals and telling them might just help your headspace a wee bit. Ultimately, you need to find whats right for you to help your head, and thats what you need to do, things you might want to think about: keep your favourite bass handy if you can. That way if you do want to pick it up its there nice and easy to get to. Same goes for any other instrument you enjoy. keeping in touch here, even if you arent playing and just fancy the chat Basschat is full of folk who are happy to chat about most things bass or non bass related. I just hope you are doing ok times can be tough just now, so I hope you find your headspace Jonny
  23. To be fair, sometimes in complex music people get hung up on the 'nerd' aspect of it. "oh listen to that Coltrane solo where he alters the modality of the root chord with a subverted inflection to a half diminished interval, very reminiscent of Stravinsky" really sounds like you know what you are talking about compared to "That sax solo sounds incredible, i have no idea what he's doing but it sounds so cool over the piano". That approach alone will put people off. But thats all very Off topic. I'd say there are bass players I don't get, but in a similar way theres pizza toppings I don't like. I avoid both but sometimes I may be puzzled by their popularity, but I also know they aren't 'bad'...unless its Tuna that has no place on a pizza and no good will come of it. Jonny
  24. Funnily enough I forget about Richard Bona, see him advertising stuff for years, seen clips on youtube heard him chatted about. listened and have always been completely underwhelmed, doesnt seem to do or say anything that has made me think anything other than blimey thats fast. Jonny
