1. Cool! I'm really keen to see them again. Tastes and bands come and go, but I've remained a Motorhead devotee since I was 13. May they rock for a long time to come!
2. Got this through the post yesterday! Long-deleted, it's a brand new reissue of Isaac Hayes' fab 1980 album. Original 5 tracks plus 4 extras. I am a fully paid-up Google streamer - this is not on their system - so my only way to own it is to buy, and manually add to my library. So it's never even been played, just ripped up to my account. Condition is as new. Bought through Amazon, it's just under £12 new. I'd love to pass this on cheap to another BC'er (and maybe find a new Isaac convert), so how's £6.50 - and I'll post it for that as well. Please drop me a PM if interested!
3. Don't like it, but liked the video when I was 16!
4. I throughly endorse Dingus' explanation! I remember when I was an avid NME/MM reader in the early/mid '90s, there wasn't the big deal made of 'Glasto' (hate that abbreviation) in the press. It was just one of the festivals. In fact, from memory, there was far more talk of Reading and newer ones like Phoenix. Glastonbury was a bit old-skool, a bit crusty! I don't recall much being made of it, or at least nowhere near like it is now.
5. Certainly looked it today, I think they sound pretty cool. Loved the Beasties cover.
6. Debbie is 69 this week! Not sure if that's cool or not....
7. Quite liked Warpaint so far. Really liked Sean Kuti - will be checking out the album later. Always nice to do a bit of bass-spotting!
8. Interesting responses. I think it was an old tech that said to aways bring a bass with used strings, as it'll set up better if they're worn in, kind of always stuck with me. I'm edging on the side of new at the mo. Bass is having new pckups installed, and new (replacement) bridge saddles, so a set-up is a must after all that!
9. I do some basic set-up and adjustments from home, but my Ric is going to a luthier next month for a bit of a mod, and as such, I'll get it properly set-up again when it's there. However - I've always assumed (and got told this once) that the bass should be set-up with used strings, not a brand new set. Is this actually true? I re-strung last week and gigged it, and I've got a couple more before it goes in.So they'll be nicely bedded in and a bit sweaty before the work is done. Just wanted to check this is the right way, and not to get it done with a shiny brand new set?
10. The cycle of GAS - only to end up back where you started!
11. There's a gorgeous American Vintage '74 Jazz - pretty steep, but looks fab with the blocks and all.
12.
May be worth sending spongebob a PM I think he is looking for one of these
Thanks TB! 4stringer did PM as he mentioned, but I was just after a backup to string differently! Just ordered some pickups now so I'm out of the market! Good price and great basses, and this one looks fantastic. Have a free bump on me - GLWTS.
13. Sorted - it's a 1/16. Answered by the company themselves!
14. Any idea which size is the exact one? Think I've got one, but I'm sure there's maybe one thats a better fit? Can't seem to get an answer searching online!
15.
I must admit being told that we were adding a rhythm guitar for a festival we are doing made me sad.
Fully agree. Been there with the guitar wall of sound. Most bands I've played in that had a RG didn't understand how to use one. Simply played the same things together, and just ended up with a louder version of the same song. I always wanted a trio....more space, more money, less schedule problems......and you can actually hear the bass!
16. I played for ages in bigger bands, and was quite content to be aa the back, Last few years, I stick to the trio format.....and you can't keep me from the front. I do all the leaping about! You'll love it. Make sure you give the Ricky some stick as well....my lot always hate it when I don't bring it, and we're all R'n'B and blues.
17. I had one a few years ago, didn't like it TBH. Awkward shape, and unless you mod the electrics, it buzzed like a disturbed wasp's nest! I found myself fiddling the various knobs and switches too much, never really settling on a sound. Saying that, I lke passive basses, and that was my only foray into active. I didn't last long! Saying that, I still think they look fab. Mine was the red one, MIJ, and it was gorgeous. A fine bass in the right hands with slight tinkering just not for me. Good luck in the search.
18. I've been watching since the '76 re runs as well, and really like it. There's great stuff, as well as the tosh. But it all makes it what it is. I was far too young to see it first time around, so it's quite a treat. TBH the '79 shows so far aren't as good for me as '77/'78. Maybe as it's the time I start to remember some of what was on....I was only 5, but it was always on in the house, so I suppose it's my first musical memory. ....and you can't top Legs & Co., can you? Tina Charles......maybe!
19. I've used Thomann lots of times - excellent service and packaging.
20. Good call. I found when I removed the Ric bridge, it was similar weight to the ally one. Funny thing was the brass one was a tenner less when I bought mine!
21. Mine went flat to the deck - during the gig! You'll love the bridge though - makes the bass 100% more playable. I too have for years played Rics as they came, and suffered! It's quite liberating - and my tone became noticeably more 'Ric' - a mixture of the bridge, and the change of my playing position. Where did you buy yours from? Aluminum or brass? I bought my ally one from Mark as Bass Direct.
