1. Can I just add that I listened to the Kevin Shirley remix today of 'Come Taste The Band'. Always loved it, and the remixed tracks sounds amazing. It used to be one of my fave DP albums, and I think it still is. I didn't realise first time around how good Tommy Bolin was, or what a recorded legacy he had - especially the fusion stuff. What an inspired choice for DP! Tragic end, though.
2.
Ah you have connection with Mayo! That's my home county. Purple were big in Ballina in the 70's
I have! Specifically Castlebar (Breaffy) and Kiltimagh. I was born in Mayo, but grew up over here. Long family history all around Mayo. I've got a place now in Kiltimagh, which I'll come to full time when the time (and money, job, etc...!) Is right. All of this from DP - probably still being blasted in Ballina!
3. Nice to see 'Burn' getting some love. Certainly the sound of a band reinvigorated. Always loved 'Come Taste.....' as well. Different, but a little bit funky too. Just amazing how all this happened 70-75. When big bands today take 6 months to tune thier floor toms, Purple would have managed 2 abums and about 6 world tours! Got to love the improvisation of the live stuff as well - another big selling point for me as I love bands streching out. Another aspect of 'rock' acts of a time now gone. Perhaps this is why pretty much any 'rock' bands I love all finished in the era I was stumbling around in nappies!
4.
It's not often that absolutely nothing grabs me in an entire 'later' but they managed it this week sadly, fast forwarded through pretty much every act. Not been much in previous shows in this series either but one or two performers I've enjoyed. It's that sort of show which is why I haven't seen it 'live' for years, always record it.
+1.
5. I think it's quite amazing what's on record 70-75 - the drumming especially. Really free...just a shame bands don't play like it now. Saying that, I bought 'The House Of Blue Light' when it came out, and they didn't play like it then either!

7. Isn't is great 'rediscovering' old bands/records that you'd put away? I used to listen to loads of Deep Purple as a teen (in the 80s). Kind of got into other stuff, and put them to the back of my mind. I suppose at Uni and the like, it wouldn't have been the coolest. Few weeks back I was going through my Google Play, and up popped a bit of DP. My word, how foolish was I filing this away? I hadn't realised what an influence that Roger Glover/Glenn Hughes on my sound. I'm kind of remembering that my first view of a Ric may have been on the back of 'Deepest Purple'? I'm just amazed how powerful the records are - just the intensity of the rhythm section, the kind of free nature of the material. It just sounds so fresh to me. Makes modern rock records seem very dull in comparison. Just though I'd like to share this! Just on the concept that no matter what different path you go down, what you get into, some stuff from your very start can still sound good. .....and how it may be influencing you without your knowledge!
8. I thought Metallica would be better suited to the (well past their prime) 'legends' slot these days!
9. Great story, thanks for sharing that!
10. Playing a 4004, very nice. Looks like a Laredo to me (chrome hardware?) from the photos.

Martin bought my CD of The Revillos excellent 'Rev Up'! Sorted out payment on the day, very rapid with excellent communication throughout. Hope to deal with Martin again, excellent BC'er!
12. Got this today - only bought the CD as I stream through Google, and it's not available on the site! It's the expanded and remastered edition, 18 tracks. First album by the band from 1980 (formally The Rezillos) - if you've got this far, you probably know this already! £12.99 on Amazon - I'm not after making (obviously), just happy for it to go to a good home, Condition is as new - ripped to my Google library, and back in the box - that's it! Paypal payment marked as a gift please - £6.50 includes postage to your door. Please PM if interested!
13.
and it had Mindblowing Decisions on the backside, simply beautiful music.
Now that's a tune!
14. Perhaps I'll give 'Strawberries' a go well, seems to be getting some serious love here! How's PG's bass tone on that one? I think part of TBA's appeal is his playing and awesome sound.
15. I've always quite liked the first 2 Damned albums, and having heard it again recently, the 3rd one too! For some reason, I've always avoided their post MGE records, primarily as I remember the 80s - Happy Talk, Eloise, cartoon image, etc.! Read some positive stuff about The Black Album (never knew it was a double) so with my streaming subscription, gave it a listen. It's been on heavy rotation for a few days - really like it. Ricky bass tone to die for, just a much better and different sounding band to what I expected. Quite experimental, with some great tunes along the way. Not sure if I'll dive in any further - I think the follow-up has PG on it (may check that out), but after that, it's the band I remember....and would rather forget! Should have checked this out years ago - a streaming success... ....and full proof of how a change in bass player can change the band!
16. Excellent call! I love the Heatwave stuff, very underrated. So many classic tracks - too many to list. I think they really had their own thing going on - funk, soul, ballads....they had it all. Some real tragedies in their story as well, very sad.....but the tunes are timeless, and the band deserves far more recognition than just being remembered for 'Boogie Nights'.
17. Great player, great tones. Also played on 'Return To Fantasy' with Uriah Heep (and the follow up). I'm not a UH fan TBH, but I've always had a soft spot for that album.....'Shady Lady' is a brill track, with some nice bass runs.
18. We normally open with one of our own numbers!
19. I love how Jazz's sound with others - I've had a few, and they always sound wrong in my hands. Plus that neck - tried to adapt, but it's just way too skinny for me. P's I love - had to part with the last one, although I didn't want to! Would like another, but not sure if I could justify it as I probably wouldn't gig it.....love the sound, but it's not my sound.
20. Watched it this morning - after reading much on here - didn't like one bit of it TBH! Thought the episode itself was quite poor overall. Next week - Coldplay. Now there's a band that needs more coverage......
21. What happened to the original Fender case?
22.
Another example of the variation in Ricks these days - mine nailed the 'classic' tone!
I had a good few, and the tones do vary in my experience. I suppose it all depends on what you hear as a 'classic' tone as well. I picked up a new 4003 last year, and tone-wise, it's probably that most 'classic' sounding one I've had - now. Fitting a Hipshot bridge really did help, both with a slightly different tone, and improved playing position. All the Rics I've owned I've always aspired to a Squire-esque growl, and I think after x amount of years, I've finally got it, or at least my own spin on it.
23. I had a late 70's 4001 that sounded just like the 'classic knob' tone. The reason I sold the bass, actually!
24. My friend saw them last week - he loves them - and said they were brilliant!
