  1. ...and if your bass is hi-Z ("passive"), or lo-Z, the fuzz/OD/dist pedal will sound different. Your options are: - works with your bass, put the pedal right after the bass - you have many basses with different outputs, a buffer or another pedal in front of the crunch pedal may be in order - buy all crunches that work with your basses And do lots of testing to find your own. I tried several side by side. EBS was terrible (for me that is), most of the Darkglasses likewise (except Duality), Muff's popularity I didn't get at all, Boss pedals were a chore... The variety of fuzz/OD/dist pedals (and even rack units) is so wide, that I really recommend using your own bass when testing. I even have one board for hi-Z basses, and two boards with different fuzzes (and compressors) for lo-Z basses. Believe me or not, you cannot mix and match every pedal with every bass.
  2. They did an "enhancement" and "designed" the Corvette that looks a bit like a Gus bass. Every time I see a Thumb, I like it, but a Corvette makes me laugh. Thumb is one good sounding bass, but the Dolphin was something I wanted, although never bought. They were expensive and rare from the start.
  3. It may be easier to understand, that when impedance diminishes, current rises. When current - and temperature - rises, cables and components have to be larger in diameter, or they melt. An 8 ohm cab is usually the safe choice. Works with tubes/valves and SS, and everything. But as long as people believe that watt equals loudness instead of dB, they want lower Z, and literally hotter amps.
  4. True. Far more exact comment than I wrote.

  6. What was missing from Billund, was the historical view to LEGO. I happened to visit https://www.leksaksmuseet.se/ in Sweden, Stockholm (maybe 10 years ago). There were lots of old boxes and sets from maybe 60's and 70's. That was closer to the original idea of toys you can build and break and build again. Modern boxes look like collector's items.
  7. A hint of tempo might give a better view to what's coming up. The bass part itself doesn't look that bad but after listening to the song I really understand the issues mentioned.
  8. Everything in Billund costs a fortune!
  9. Finger ramp is painted, so could be the pickups. Lovely work!
  10. You have tried a new battery so opening few screws is not a problem. Open the covers and take a few (sharp) pictures. You may be able to see what was fixed afterwards.
  11. @dmccombe7: thank you, very much the same thoughts. Now I am in a happy situation that the band I play most uses scores a lot (practically everyone reads). I even find tabs a bit complicated to use.
  12. Linear is usually using a bigger transformer and therefore weighs more. The case has to be opened, if the specs do not reveal the technology used.
  13. Standing in the shadows of Motown. The book you can listen and read. The stories are of interest, and variety of songs from simple to complicated.
  14. Neuser Claudia had a keyboard in the 1990's. Misa Tri-Bass had a touch fretboard. Steve Chick has made split fret neck instruments since 1985, although split fret neck was invented by Bob Murrell in 1964 (Guitorgan with six voice polyphony). Burns did first active electronics in 1963. Ovation created piezo pickup, and Ron Hoag optical pickup in late 1960's. What's new? What should we expect to see in the near future?
  15. An old trick, and very functional. A hint of reverb makes the distorted sound nicer and fuller (to me, at least). I am using a reverb named Nimbus, that has a HPF, and a LPF made by Taylor Livingston. Works well, also with dist/fuzz/OD.
  16. WAGO makes nice connectors, too: https://www.wago.com/global/installation-terminal-blocks-and-connectors/inline-splicing-connector-with-levers/p/221-2411
  17. There are no standards here. If you want, you can buy certain connectors and use the extensively. Reminder: - a hi-Z J needs a 2 pole connector - a lo-Z EMG TW has 7 wires (coils, 9 VDC) - an 8 coil humbucker needs a connector far too big - EMG connectors can be connected both ways (not good) - bigger connectors require quite a lot of space under the hood
  18. MM starts his solo @ 2.50. I didn't make it when my teacher gave it to me 30 years ago.
  19. It is true thay a switching PSU may be horrible, but not all are. A linear may have insufficient filtering, too. Yes, a list of functional PSUs could be very nice. As an example, I have heard nasty comments on 1spot, but my newer units have been good in smaller boards.
  20. Why a switching does not do? If it is done well, it will work as well as a linear power.
  21. Yes, one more which I have happily forgotten. A '91 Modulus Graphite Quantum 5 SPi custom. 17.5 mm string spacing. I sold it and got a chance to buy a black MG Genesis 5 from a gentleman here. 19 mm spacing, love it.
  22. For me marketing has raised serious GAS a few times, but... I wanted a Steinberger L-2 a lot. They were rare, and it took quite a long time to get my hands on one. What a bulky neck profile! It felt like a thick, round double bass neck. Played it for five minutes. Now I hate it. Wal. Similar experience. Terrible neck. To me, that is. J and P look so old, straight from the 50's. Yes, they set the standard, but not my cup of tea. I do have two basses that are obvious descendats of the J, but if I had some extra money, I would remake the bodies by a luthier. Lighter, more ergonomic etc. Single cuts, well, the idea sounded good, but I am still waiting to see one that looks good.

    DIY Effects

Everything cannot be seen here, but: - upper left corner, the wire is not tinned - lower left corner, is the pot soldered through the PCBA? - soldering NE from the letter F looks suspicious
  24. Remember that strings make a difference. If you don't get the sound you want in the first phase, prepare to spend some money on different sets.
  25. ...or less, depending on the sensitivity etc.
