you got a link to that polish?? i know its a thick finish, but it looks shiny as fook
http://www.carplan.co.uk/index.cfm?category=58 Your local Halfords will sort you out for about £5! It's good for cleaning up metalwork too. If you use it on laquer or paint, do make sure it's a modern, heavy-duty finish, it's a mild abrasive & I don't think using it on a thin nitro finish would be a good idea. J.

I should perch this precariously on the top of the stack: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=150309633551 One o' them Shaftesbury-branded 360/4005 hybrid things, either JapCrap or a rebadged Eko. 3. A few objects of curiosity & desire seemed to have slipped under the communal radar (or have they? ) so maybe an update might be prudent. Or something. 5.
So was the bass in a hard case and they still managed to do that much damage? Royal Mail never cease to amaze me with the ways they come up with to break stuff. By the way, to you loan out your carpets to porn shoots?
Indeed it was in a case - admittedly a pretty wrecked one, but you'd really have to be trying! And fortunately the carpets are a bit more subdued than this - it's a bit of dodgy fur fabric which appeals to my inner porno director! :brow: It gets worse, I also have this (excuse the g*it*r): J.
 6.
That should have it's own horror movie made about it!
It needs its own sub-forum! 7.
Nah, that one's a snip. Check out this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRUNO-GUITAR-ROYAL-A...emZ370095078885
Good grief - that a whole special new vocabulary for wishful thinking!
Someone made an offer on that which was declined. I wonder how much the offer was for.
12 quid? J.
 8. I do think if you sell them separately you'll get a very positive response - there's a lot of interest in vintage 70s & 80s Japanese basses, and Matsumoku-made Arias like yours were pretty much top of the heap. I'd certainly like to know more about the Jazz copy (Aria copies are pretty unusual in the UK) and the SB400. Jon.
 9. I made the annual pilgrimage - once I'd got over the horrendous admission cost & car parking (keep telling myself: it's only once a year, it's only once a year) I thought it was not bad. Without the dominant corporate profile of Sound Control, it felt a lot more ramshackle & DIY, which I quite liked. Not a great deal of bass stuff - it's disappointing how many brands/distributors don't seem to think it's worth bothering to show the basses which are part of their product range - but a lot of what was there was very worth seeing. The Enfields were simply stunning in the flesh. Fortunately I wasn't just there for bass stuff & ended up getting a decent deal, on some studio monitors & a couple of pairs of headphones. Will I go again next year? Probably. Jon.
 10. No worries Nick - I won't be bidding! I do like it, though, it's almost a semi-acoustic Mosrite copy. This will be Japanese, late 60s or early 70s. Bruno was a US importer/distributor & presumably Royal Artist was a sub-brand thereof. In fact this bass, or one like it, has been through the Bay before, and was discussed &, I think, lusted after right here at that time: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=196039 Can't remember if it sold, and obviously the listing's long-gone, so this might be the original seller having another go. Can't help thinking a £150 start's a bit steep for such an obscure bass, regardless of how unique/original it is. J.
 11. Basically it was crushed sufficiently hard to punch the tone control through into the cavity: I have all the little fragments of the original so I'm going to attempt a bit of scratchplate jigsaw, just to keep it original. That said, the tort's a good fit and way better looking. The scary screw ends are a bit of an issue when playing with a pick & doing palm-edge muting, which I do occasionally, but I think shorter screws and/or a shim in the neck pocket will be the way forward. A cover would interfere with pick style playing (well, my hamfisted bludgeoning) and also I'd have to drill the body, which I don't want to do. Interesting detail - SQ Squiers had scratchplates drilled for a pup cover, but no holes in the body. J.
 12.
what make of polish do u use, serious question btw? Lurvly
It's a massively thick poly finish on this - so it's T-cut & elbow grease! J.
 13. Pictures speak louder than words: All original apart from the tort plate - the original w/b/w having been killed in transit by Royal Fail. In a way they did it a favour, though. I don't think I've seen a more gorgeous burst & grain combination than this bass, I've tried my best but these pics don't do it justice. :brow: Jon.
 14. I do like these. I know the name but don't think I've ever encountered any before. Very interesting creatures - whereabouts were they from? Jon.
 15. Sex, of a frantic & dirty nature, that definitely gets a full 5 :brow: :brow: :brow: :brow: :brow: 70s & 80s Gibson basses were great - what the hell went wrong? Anyway this is second only to the mighty Victory Artist on my lust list, only wish I could afford it! Jon.
 16. I think with the Gibson copy, what they've done is just stick an extra pickup & controls on the standard single pup EB3 copy. I had one identical - same scratchplate, cover, finger rest etc, except it just had the one big (fake) mudbucker.
Is it unusual to post in this thread when I have no intention of buying any of these ... uh ... "classics". Here's what's left of a 70s Rickenfaker. Still seemed quite popular with bidders though. I wonder what the story was behind the telecasterisation of this bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=230304503513
Have a dig through the Rickenfakers thread & you'll find there's a (fairly dull) story attached to this one. Isn't there always.... J.

Not entirely sure how he knows it's 1974... There's a Shafty as well, this might be back for a second (or third) try: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260313248054 J.
 18.
Now this strangely familiar ... Anyway, I have no complaints - he paid me what he thought it was worth & was man enough not to whinge (as some do) when confronted with the stark reality... Sadly his resale has been subject to the law of diminishing returns... J.
 19. Bugger! Missed it! It's been removed so obviously had a whiff of dodgy about it - so what was it? Jon.
 20.
How do you put it down?
Good question. I remember these from last time 'round and still think the conventional bridge & guitar tuners stuck on the end is a half-arsed bodge which almost makes it look like it was knocked up in a shed. J.

 22.
Wish this was closer to me, (I'm in Lincs) then I'd pop in to have a go on it. Seems to me that E-bay has killed off most good backstreet music shops. In the good old days there were independant guitar shops in every little town, with loads of secondhand gear to try. Fuggit!
Back in those days a fakey Rick would've been about £75, not £550, though! Can't help wondering if those days will come back - Ebay is really squeezing the private sellers out, I'd say there's about half as many basses listed per week than there was a year ago & they must be going somewhere. As far as this one's concerned, I will take a wander in & give it a thrash. J.
 23.
And a 64 page manual (as if it takes that many pages to teach someone to play guitar...).
That's in 12 different languages. Jon.
 24.
This is the only headless I've ever hankered after. Can't find any of the buggers mind you...
One of these went through Ebay a few times without selling a few months ago. I think a certain Mr Binface, from the notorious Binface.com interweb site, was the lucky snapper-upper, once it got cheap enough. J.
 25.
Hondo, appropriately cheap? It would be £15 at your local car boot - it probably was at his... Considering the much nicer & much more not-plywood Shatellite through-neck's still at £50, I'd be looking at that if I wanted an old Korean P. I am, in fact. J.
