  1. Like Ashdown I guess as a brand that just have never really found themselves in fashion but their Nexus range looked quite interesting.
  2. I had a similar experience with a stage monitor I bought second hand. Great customer service. I'd love to see Laney get more love on here but their bass products rarely get a mention.
  3. True, I'd really rather not but I'm not going to absorb the £40 to buy one and buyers don't seem interested in a 5 - 10% uplift to provide one. On BC especially they are constantly trying to knock you down on price so presenting another 40 quid on top is going to lose you that sale. It also strikes me as curious that when Fender, Gibson, Sandberg etc. ship guitars worldwide they are not in hardcases (to my knowledge) and when I've bought guitars online from retailers like Andertons, GAK and GuitarGuitar not a single one has come in a hardcase. So do they just not bother with insurance and absorb any losses or do commercial organisations have different agreements with couriers?
  4. The key question they need to answer is will a damaged item be covered by the insurance if it is not in a hardcase
  5. Lovely, but 48mm neck width at nut, too much for my tiny hands
  6. The C4 synth looks a lot of fun. I watched the BassTheWorld review yesterday
  7. it's almost Halloween so a Zombie thread revival feels appropriate .. This is not just a random zombie thread revival however, I'm starting to look at string options for my inbound Shuker custom. My first choice are Ernie Ball Cobalt flats but given I've gone for a very English build (English Elm drop top, guitar hand made in England by Jon, East Pre-Amp, Armstrong Pickups, Heistercamp Strap) I was looking for some UK branded strings. Unfortunately NewTone only seem to do standard round wounds and the only other British string brand I know are Rotosound. Are there anymore opinions on the Nexus strings in the past 10 years, the black coating would look rather smart on the bass but how do they sound and feel? Any other British string brands ??
  8. A few reasons - I prefer the more compact body - The II's are significantly lighter and better balanced than the VM4 was - The neck feels more comfortable on the II's and the finish seems superior to that on the VM4, more of a satin feel rather than a gloss.
  9. Reviving an old thread to see what this communities current thoughts are on good choices for dual bass gig bags. I won't be carrying it far, just too and from the car really, so portability / weight not the primary concern here. The Fusion looks great, but spends. The mono m80 dual even more so. Has anyone tried the Gator Pro ? Any other recommendations?
  10. So I think I'm developing a Sandberg addiction. This VS4 arrived today: As a sibling to my roadworn VT4 I love both these basses, super light weight and beautifully balanced. They sound incredible through the Lil' Stubby. I did have to move on my series I california VM4 to fund the VS4 but I do much prefer the California II's.
  11. I'm now happy to arrange for a courier to deliver the bass (via Eurosender). For UK mainland I believe insured delivery will be around £35.
  12. Cheapest hardcases come in at around £40. May consider as an option for the more expensive of the two I have left for sale.
  13. Thanks for this, I'd missed that announcement - I did a bit of scanning and not a single mention of a hardcase being required (and lots of useful hints on securely packing). Amazing.
  14. I've a few basses for sale on here & eBay. I was hoping for collection but the majority of interest has come from folks hoping I can arrange a courier. I looked at Interparcel and UPS and it seems that unless you have a spare hardcase you can send a bass in musical instruments are prohibited. I recently sent a pedal via RoyalMail, it was damaged and even though I'd paid for the insurance they made the claim process so difficult (the buyer would have had to have sent the damaged item, along with the original packaging to RM for inspection before they payout) it wasnt worth the effort and I ended up compensating the buyer myself. So, is there any courier who will accept a guitar without a hard case that's worth using or is this standard policy across them all and you just have to assume the risk or stick to collection only.
  15. Have to say the winch operator role sounds way more fun.
  16. Lovely story, I have a uni pre going into my Shuker custom build and am also toying with replacing the pre on my 5 string Jazz with either a East or Aguilar. If you buy an East from John directly is fitting a standard service he offers?
  17. Man, I loved that show (and theme tune) when I was a kid!
  18. Cool mate, feel free to PM me if you want to discuss further
  19. Fingerboard and head veneer in place.
  20. Good luck man, hope you have a blast.
  21. Glad it's getting some action !
