6.
I can't believe I've still got exactly the same gear as I had in 1985. It was old then! Still, I thoroughly endorse H&H products - the finest bass amps ever made. Before that I had a Selmer Treble 'n'Bass valve amp which had more warmth and depth but didn't suit the Wal so much. Most modern amps sound rubbish to my ears. You've probably noticed my 100 watt amp head has seen better days - it's missing knobs and buttons and even survived a fire in a studio. I've lost the 4 x12 cab from the band days (can't remember what I did with it) so I've used the 15" combo for the gigs ever since. It's a little erratic to say the least, surging up and down in volume of its own accord. I've tried to have it fixed but many engineers have tried and failed. It's the pre amp part of the H&H I really like. It's a perfect marriage for the Wal (which tends to be very dynamic and I think really needs a compressor. The H&H compressor does the job. The H&H Studio 60 (to give it its full title) is a big fruity amp that weighs a ton. I wrote "this speaker talks bullshit" on it when I was drunk and I'm still looking for the right cleaning product to remove the offensive lettering. I tried for years to find an engineer willing to extract the pre amp from the main amp head ... to no avail. It would have been really handy to take it in a little box with me when I was doing loads of foreign gigs in the 90's. If anybody knows someone who can do this let me know. In the meantime I should try and find a small 12" cab to go with the amp head...so if anybody has one for sale let me know.
Kev, that amp and bass had a monumental effect on me back when I first heared "Quirk Out" in Edinburgh in 1986, then when I saw Stump in Liverpool. My original copy of "Quirk Out" has very little grooveage on its surfaces but I resolutely refuse to listen to it on CD, as good turntables are a superior technology and sound infinitely better, IMDO.
 7.
Ok, here we go again, i'm putting up my 2 Kingbasses for sale, 1st is my Retroglide, i had this built for me to the same specs that Mark King has his " all the bells and whistles" its about 10 months old has had light use and is in excellent condition. it comes with its original hard case which is also in excellent condition. i'm looking for £2400. 2nd up is my Black Beauty. This is the Prototype (23) built for Mark King, which he used live. it comes with paper work signed by Rob Green and Mark King to confirm the authenticity, the bass is also signed by Mark on the back plate. again this comes with the original hard case. the bass is still in great condition with only the scuff marks from fingernails near the g string ( where the popping takes place) and is really only visible on close inspection. Being a prototype and used by Mark King i'm looking for £3000 for this one. please PM me if you want any more details. thanks, James.
Sweet Jesus!!!
 8. Got some nice basses there kidda. What's the Enfield like? Steve. Nice to see a pro tutor.
 9. Put your money away Poindexter.
 10.
I'm sure this will start flame wars, but I've never really seen what all the fuss is about...
You Sir, are the spawn of Satan.
 11.
Is it just me, or does Jamerson look really uncomfortable and tense in this video? Superb bassline though!
Yes, I agree but he was probably a very shy man who used alcohol as a way of dealing with life and found himself in extraordinary situations. God Bless. The Finest.
 12. That bass has it all.
 13.
Buy it so I can try it! I cannot possibly justify this, but I would love to try and then persuade myself that I need it. I don't need it. I fancy it. This place is lethal.
Owen, buy this BASS. In all seriousness, Owen, buy this.
 14. Listen to the end of the song, where Marvin goes from break down to reprise, then he does it again and it is James who leads the dynamic.
 15. I may have posted this before but here is some of the best bass guitar ever recorded, contained within these 20 seconds of this clip... 2 mins 25 to 2 mins 45. Bliss, bliss, bliss. Check out the thumb muting and The Hook. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KC7uhMY9s
 16.
i cant get a reading on the meter must be a duff one!
How have you got the meter set up?
 17. If they are anything like their other strings, then they will be dead out of the pack, or after about 6 hours.
 18.
I remember when I liked indie before it became filled with girlymen dressed in cardigans. Sigh.
I like to call them "Queggs". Oh and don't forget the white cotton belts and black penny pumps. In the 90's, the NME use to call this thing, "The Scene That Celebrates Itself.
 19.
Nice tone Steve! Just enough growl/grind & mids...
Cheers Gary, I still have that kind of sound, despite what gear I use.
 20. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endID=358765544 I had a sound back in 90-92, that I loved. 1976 Thunderbird played with fingers and upside down, (lefty) through an SVT II, into a Marshall 4x12". No FX. Only tracks that I played on here are "Breathing Under Water" and "Zero". The others are played by one of the guits when I left. Guitars, Les Paul Custom through a Boogie and a Jaguar, through a 30th Anniversary Marshall stack, all with beautiful use of FX. That's me at the back with the hat on.
 21. Nice sound from his guitar there. Would make an excellent soundtrack to a disembowlment scene in "Dexter".
 22.
How about a nice block of perspex?
Bastard, I was going to say that.
 23. Hi there, excellent chops. I had a gap of about 10 years between playing and I use to beat myself up about how much better I would be now if I'd have played right through. Doesn't bother me now, as I have learned more in the past few years then at anytime. Good stuff and Martin McAloon is a dude.
