I don’t think it’s so easy now Kiwi , at one time there were old houses everywhere, you don’t see it so much now, developer friends of mine don’t bother to refurbish anything, they just knock down and build new flats.
I started out as a steeplejack doing high rise works , then qualified as a carpenter and joiner/cabinet maker, many years later I became a property developer and retired at 42 for a while, but I’ve been working for the NHS with their property team for the last 12 years dealing with compliance and refurbishment of their properties.
Dry lining is more the finish, the plasterboard is not plastered, the joins are covered with tape and finished with a jointing compound, it’s quicker and cleaner than plaster
I fitted metal stud for a few years , it was first used for big office buildings because it was fast, clean and light, then some house builders started using it, most of Canary Wharf and docklands is dry lining
