audio pots can vary a lot in the taper, and availability does vary so it maybe the manufacturer fitted a less than ideal pot as that was all they could get at the time, or the supplier sent the wrong spec ones and they used them anyway; one of my Squiers has similar lack of sweep, but another has pretty much the best of all my instruments, both have stock 250kOhm pots, which look the same externally, same capacitors, nominally same pickups; and I've found some CTS pots great, some less so, even though same size and value, because they are different models with different tapers: noticeably when stock dried up during Covid choice was limited and deliveries sometimes fulfilled with what was on the shelf

are the original pickups epoxied into the covers or are the covers just 'glued' on top, usually with a little hot melt glue ? If the latter then you may be able to remove the covers and use them to install replacement pickups if they fit inside the covers - apart from some fancy pickups that are encapsulated in epoxy mostly P covers are just covers. I bought a used set of aftermarket alnico pickups with the bigger eared covers fitted but was able to separate them and then use stock sized covers so they would fit in the cut out in the pickguard without modifying it as the pickups themselves were normal size - I don't know if the pickup winder had just bought cheap covers and hadn't realised they were slightly different, maybe that's why they were sold on because they didn't fit buyers pickguard

I tried a set of Status flats on my Lionel VS4 fretless, they were awful, lifeless, toneless and quiet, I've put the LaBella tapewounds it came to me with back on, I do have a set of Chromes to try. I liked D'Addario half rounds much more than the Status flats. Passive bass with Sandberg pickup.

take a look at Driftwood guitars yt channel, they use cnc for making the basic necks and other things, they have a clever heel joint, the dogbone, which is cnc, they make acoustics and also a tele solid body which they developed the neck to be cnc made Most guitars that are mass produced use cnc for the basic cutting and shaping, can be seen in many yt videos of factory tours, Keisel is pretty open about what they do, I think Warwick have shown their set up, even Gibson now use cnc

surely it depends on neck width and profile and actual spring spacing, the nut could be shortened if it's just a tad wider in profile or swapped for a bone one that is cut to suit the players preference - Leo designed the instruments to be serviceable

one of the alibaba boys will be able to make you a cheap short scale 5 string neck , or try making friends with Daisy, she might be up for broadening her portfolio, making just necks a lot easier and quicker than making acoustics and she's in a shared workspace place where there might be a cnc woodworker or she might know one, and she could make a YT video or two and it all snowball.....

I guess its a case of what one is used to, club80-90 was the first forum I joined back in 2002, the layout was good (ie it was a big upgrade on the barely gui stuff that came before) and logical and has remained pretty much the same with slight incremental improvements, its a bit of a dinosaur being on Ezboard platform but we couldn't afford Invision ( I did suggest it when the last upgrade was done having seen this) as it's a free, occasional donations requested forum, very much of its own ethos. I don't use the next unread thread question button, I like to see the title of the threads, and use the hover preview to see if I want to read on....

The other forum I spend most of my online life on, built on the Ezboard platform has the forum control at the top, where you navigate between sections, like a normal windows layout just as on here, BUT also has a drop down menu box bottom right of the page so when you have scrolled to the bottom of a page when scanning a section, or imprtantly when reading a thread you can immediately navigate to another section from there without having to scroll back up to the top of the page as we do on here, it's a really good ergonomic design. Yes I know you can use back button, but that isn't always where you want to go. I use a pc and mouse, but if I was on a phone constantly having to scroll up to get to change sections or constantly going back it would really discourage me from browsing the forum - its part of the reason I don't use a phone for internet (screen size and interface method being main ones) except in an emergency away from my desk situation, navigating websites isn't as easy, just blindly scrolling trying to find the correct thing to progress is a frustrating waste of time. I know most people have moved to doing everything on a phone, or on a tablet like device, but I am happy doing it 90s style. On the other forum I use I log straight into main menu, where I can see a brief overall view of what's new, go to the first section that catches my eye, and after that I go through all the sections I check in, read, post, and move on without ever coming back to the home page main menu. 31" scale, looks interesting, but no details like string spacing, nut width, weight, availability........I like Alan's pickups, and he seems to have some good shops in China making instruments with decent QC

But you have had work done on it after buying it ? Was this approved by the vendor, or done by the vendor ?

I just fitted some medium scale tapewounds to a CV FSR Mustang, all bar the E string are on the posts on the silks with the silks finishing roughly level with the string tree button, the E string is nearly 1 wind on the post beyond the silks. afaik Fender don't make a Mustang specific string and it seems like they fit long scale strings cut to length from the factory, certainly on the Squiers

just get a set of covers, work to those dimensions and fit the pickups inside the covers - probably best to use the covers with no pole piece holes like these then you can swap pickups inside the covers to your heart's content should you chose Ebay link

I think you mean Mustang not Precision bass, PB has the pickups sat on foam with height adjusted by wood screw into body, the foam is pushing the pickup away from the back of the body, the screw is pushing the pickup cover, and hence the pickup, down towards the body. Mustang bass the pickups are hung from the pickguard with springs (or rubber tubing) over the machine screws between the back of the guard and the top of the pick up cover so by adjusting the length of the machine screw you adjust the height of the pickup relative to the pick guard.
