Any survey of the 'great' fretless players will generally show they mostly favour round wounds, there was a really good discussion about it during an online seminar/forum a few years ago presented from Berkley College; it's probably still viewable somehow, but I am sorry I don't have the link, iirc Steve Bailey who is/was? main man at Berkley for Bass would be point of contact, and there was a thread about it here on General at the time; it was a lockdown thing that hasn't afaik carried on much since though that was the intention but I may have dropped out of the loop and it is still going on unbeknownst to me That being said I have half rounds on mine at the moment 🙃

I assumed there would be Studios/engineers/techs/musicians offering a capture service but a quick Google didn't throw up any such results; surely if you invested in IR sampling hardware and some good mics you'd want to make a bit of money back on your investment ?

What about the new Boss IR2 Pedal. that seems to have pretty much every trick in the box in a compact pedal, good review on The Studio Rats channel on YT today

Swapping a 1962 blonde EB2 for an archtop guitar that turned out to be a dog. To be fair the EB2 was a bit of a dog but it would now be worth something whereas the guitar got stood on and ended up as firewood. I regret losing touch with the guy I swapped it with much more though, as we lost touch and I can't find him and his family now, haven't seen them for 22 years (days before mobile phone ubiquitousness), their son will be a man now.

Are the new strings a different gauge to the ones fitted previously ? If they are fatter then you may have to file the nut slots to accommodate the strings so they sit properly in the slots. Maybe a take it to someone who knows what they are doing job. If you bought the strings in your local shop their technician may sort it for less money as you've just spent money there.

so the shielding isn't 'earthed' and the screw on the apparently noisy pickup is in contact with the shielding by the looks of it, nothing to do with the pickups, the screw isn't electrically connected to the pickup it's just holding the cover in place, the foam is isolating the back of the pickup from the shielding

have you tried changing the tone pot or tone capacitor ? Dropping in a different set of pots/capacitor only means a bit of soldering or de-soldering and screwdriver work if you get a solderless set up like @KiOgon makes I like the twin stack set up with different caps for each pickup, but on a VVT the cap makes quite a difference and old ones can drift in value so maybe yours is emphasising some of the E string frequencies in a way that you don't like

This happened to me too, but I sucked it up as it was an exchange deal and other than the poor set up (basically a fresh set of strings fitted (probably to replace the old rusty ones) but no cleaning or polishing of frets or intonation setting, dirt and the loose strap buttons that needed plugging of the body to resolve it was basically a very nice bass that I much preferred to the one I had swapped it for, though I sold it on at the beginning of Covid as by then I had finally built my custom version which is my avatar

Thanks for testing the BT7, I haven't changed strings (tapewounds on fretless) yet, but I know the BT7 will fit other instruments I have, and also there are people who'll buy it if I don't use it at all. HE6 looks the best off the shelf option as it's only 1 hole to drill and is covered by Sandberg Cal II tuner if removed Maybe BassDirect or another dealer can discuss this with Sandberg and get a recommendation for all the California II models, we can't be the only peeps wanting to fit one to one of their basses. I reckon Hipshot might actually make the Sandberg tuners, but as with all things these days no one will acknowledge where they actually source parts for the usual bollocks reason of 'commercial confidentiality'

There's so much stuff for sale on all market places so generally buyers are spoilt for choice; reasonably priced (where seller bought it cheap, both new and used, some years ago and is also happy to pay for the use of it so isn't using the new inflated price of stuff as yardstick to pricing used) stuff sells, but then so does some of the frankly overpriced (maybe different dynamics in different price points and 'vintage' market), but maybe the not so special run of the mill stuff is hard to shift as people may be less inclined to 'buy to try' as worried they won't be able to shift it at same price if they don't like it. But for most paying the bills and buying food and looking after the kids' needs/wants are the priority
