1. Ah, that makes sense Chris.. There's a lot of high quality gear around on this forum that has passed through Beedster Towers at one time or another. I should know as I've owned, and still own, some of it! This is quite a stunner and as you say, is a lot of bass for the money. Hope you're doing well btw 😊
2. Great for sale thread; that's exactly how it should be done! Beautiful looking bass too.. 😊 GLWTS
3. Hi Danny, Any chance of you selling me one pair of these, i.e. one x male and one x female? Thanks Nik
4. Hi Kev I might be able help as my Mono strap is a little to big for me.. Shall we swap photos? Nik
5. Just bought a P bass copy from Mick which is a surprisingly nice sounding and nice playing bass. What's not surprising at all though is the fact that Mick is one of Basschat's finest - he owns some fabulous instruments, really knows his stuff, puts in a lot of effort to help out others on the forum and of course, he runs the Herts Bass Bash every year! So deal with Mick in absolute confidence folks.. And if you've ever got an hour or two to spare and you want to check out some cool basses and have a good chat about all things bass, head down to Hatfield and see Mick - you won't be disappointed! Thanks Mick 😊
6. Thanks Mick, It was a pleasure catching up yesterday and thanks also for allowing me to check out some of your very wonderful basses. The ACG was quite stunning and a real surprise to me as I've never played one before.. As good as it was though, it was not quite in the same class as your Veillette-Citron which was just superb. Thanks for the chat, your time and the bass.. Cheers Nik
7. Always sad to hear such news! I didn't know Gary or his band but have just had a look at their Facebook page and looking at the photos, he seemed like a real character.. Thoughts are with the band and his family and friends. RIP
8. I'm surprised this is still here at this price...? 🤔 Especially as it's a quality piece of kit for not much money at all by today's standards. Anyway, GLWTS and have a BUMP on me!
9. Just had a listen to your YouTube clip Mark... bass sounds very warm and phat! Great frontman/vocalist by the way. GLWTS
10. That's pretty much a hand-built, boutique and unique bass for £600!! GLWTS
11.
Thing about Chuck, he took some of T-Bone Walker's guitar and Guitar Slim's stage show and married them to pin-sharp lyrics that ordinary kids could relate to. Chuck wrote songs about girls, cars, girls in cars and mundane setbacks elevated to a comic plane. Along with contemporaries Leiber and Stoller he wrote the dictionary of Rock, dragging the infant art form away from the often pseudo-poetic lyrics which dominated popular music at the time. His writer's ear as much as his swaggering boogie will be his legacy. There's only so many times one can play a Chuck Berry intro but his words never stale. Wailing down the freeway, testing out the cruisin' power; State trooper trailing, clocked it ninety miles an hour It was'n me, Sheriff; M'mm, Sheriff, it was'n me Ah! It must have been some other body, uh uh, Sheriff, it was'n me
Very well put, Sir! 😊
12. Bass sounds really nice, but it's clearly in good hands because your playing is excellent.. very musical and very funky! GLWTS
13.
Ignoring my ding a ling.
True But theres always an exception that proves every rule..
14.
Chuck Berry was one of the most influential songwriters and performers of the 20th Century. He's up there with Lennon McCartney, Dylan, Lou Reed and the rest. Those who think they haven't been influenced by him had better check out their heroes. The 6 Degrees of Separation theory certainly applies here.
Absolutely spot on, Chris. We've had the Greatest Hits CD on this morning, and his songs are like 3 minute works of art; perfect from start to finish.
15. It's great to find the time and space to rediscover and experiment a bit with your playing and back catalogue like this Peter - 'refreshes the parts that gigging band's don't reach' to paraphrase the old TV commercial. But my advice would definitely be to hang onto your amps/cab a bit longer as you never know what you've got till it's gone or what may be just around the corner. I had about 9 months off from gigging two years ago whilst in between bands, but i really missed playing live.. Yes, it can be a hassle sometimes, but there's nothing quite like it either if you enjoy entertaining people and playing with other musicians. Hope all's well with you by the way 😊
16.
I liked and still like "Dancing in the Street", Great driving version which doesn't take itself seriously.
Yep - me too. I like his version of the Alabama Song as well, but i think its one of those 'marmite' pieces of music that really divides opinion...
17. RIP. Very sad news! He's one of the very few musicians and songwriters who's songs we all will have played at one time or another in our own musical careers. As such, his reach and influence can't be overstated.. As Jack said, only Sir Paul and Ringo left now.
18.
I assume you're talking about the album rather than the song, not that a lot of people have much time for either I think Tonight (the album) gets a bad rap, some of which is justified, but I do like to defend it. For a start, I think if Hugh Padgham hadn't been at the helm, it would have sounded very different. The whole album is almost drowned in a sea of 80's production. You would be forgiven for thinking parts of it were from a Phil Collins album and Padgham is part of the reason why. Also, Hugh allegedly didn't think Blue Jean was good enough for the album . Bowie himself said that Loving The Alien sounded completely different on the demo. I guess it was probably more in line with the version he later did live with Gerry Leonard, which is just beautiful IMHO. Here he is talking about it.
That's a beautiful version of Loving The Alien! Thanks.. Yep, the 'Tonight' album as a whole for that overblown 80s production and for being so patchy in terms of the quality of the songs. 'Never Let Me Down' wasn't much better to be honest, and the Glass Spider tour that accompanied it was probably Bowie's artistic low point for me. However, what came afterwards, e.g. Tin Machine, the 90s drum & bass exploration stuff like Earthling, at least had Bowie's artistic integrity back at it's core that was there throughout his great 70s albums, even it it wasn't his most commercial material. Like someone else has said above, I think 'Where Are We Now' is one of his best ever songs and IMHO, Blackstar has 2 or 3 absolutely incredible songs on it (Lazarus, I Can't Give Anything Away and the title track) so he was definitely on an upward curve as an artist before he died.
19.
Time to man up Nik
That's really funny Chris, and so true! I bought a lightweight cab recently from Gareth (nice cab) , but I really feel I've let myself down as a self-appointed part-time ambassador of all things retro, Luddite and bad for you back... like ludicrously overweight cabs for example that are too big for the gigs I do , but which look and sound amazing! Truth is, much as I would love to own this cab, I hardly use anything else these days since you sold me the Ampeg V4BH head and Classic 115 cab a couple of years ago. I bought the matching 210 for it as well, and all together, it makes for a beautiful sounding rig that works in whatever musical setting I use it.. Anyway, back on topic, I'm sure this cab will make its next owner very happy and GLWTS!
20. Fantastic! I love the sound of the Quatra Valve, so this must be even more stunning.. GLWTS
21. Good little basses these; i had one about 10 years ago and it sounded really good! GLWTS
22. Interesting idea for a thread.. Highest: all albums from Hunky Dory through to Heroes, including Transformer and The Idiot which he produced for Lou Reed and Iggy Pop respectively Lowest: Tonight album I'm very biased of course, but that run of Bowie albums is as artistically and musically good as anything produced since the Beatles series of albums in the 1960s..
23. Somerset i believe.. Lovely looking bass btw.. GLWTS!
