I owned a fretless 5-string Sei with the full Wal electronics setup for a while... however, I believe these were actually cannibalised from a Wal, rather than provided separately. That was a lovely bass - it's living in Japan now.
I think I saw that bass on one of the Forums a while back Russ; lovely combination of the best of innovative UK bass design!
Greg, I think i can speak on everyones behalf saying its nice to have the warwick guys on the BC friendlist! We need to make a pact with finnbass and take down TB. We will fight them on the fretboards!
+1 Especially to building some bridges with Finnbass.. I think taking on TB might be an 11-stringed ERB too far...
I had the V3 version. I didnt bother with the bass or electric settings but it worked great with a condenser mic recording vocals and acoustic guitars onto the Zoom 802CD I had at the time. The mic preamp models on the Zoom were rubbish so for the price the ART was, it paid for itself after about 10 minutes of using it.
Cool! Looks like that's the one to go for then..
Thanks for a great discussion! I really like the tone of Spoombung bass ( and brilliant music too!! ) and i can start to see why people get obsessed about these basses. Do they used to have original pickups and electronics? if yes, was it, or is it possible to buy it separately ?
If you mean the original Wal pick ups & electronics, then the answer's no; they've never been available seperately as I understand it. Only once have I ever seen the Wal electronics on another bass and that was made by a luthier called Jeff Finch, so he must have known the guys at Wal to get that to happen.

Really enjoyed that and thanks for sharing the event with us! My favourite sounding rig was the Mesa MPulse 600/Schroeder combination but I was absolutely amazed by how good the Walkabout Scout sounded for it's size.. Great sounding '73 P Bass by the way, WOT...
I've got one of the chapest 'basic' models too. I think they're even cheaper from Thommann - depending on postage costs. http://www.thomann.de/gb/art_tube_mp.htm?s...f8ff837fdb4b96e I've mainly used it on vocal mic rather than bass, where I tend to favour my Sansamp BDDI, but it sounded pretty good on bass and also in series with Sansamp. A lot of people seem to reckon on changing the stock (Chinese ?) tube 12AX7 or 12 AT7 type I think for something a bit more refined. Google it and see. But I haven't got round to it. It is indeed something of a bargain and will also do well for a bit of 'character' on vocals if you sing or are into the recording side of things. One thing to note is that the jack input impedance is 840K ( or 1M0 on some versions I think ? ) so some may feel it's not ideal for very 'hot' pickupos which have a higher than normal impedance. But personally I don't think an ultra high input impedance is critical with bass.
Thanks for that info - really helpful!

silverfoxnik replied to Shockwave's topic in General Discussion
Having been really busy yesterday I've only just seen what's happened on this multiple-thread affair with IncX's bass since Wednesday and it's great, great news!! Well done to all and especially Shockwave for his work on this.. I'm sure you guys have got it all covered by now but if not, then I'm quite close to Brighton and am happy to help if I can. Basschat has even more to proud of itself for than usual. -
Currently I'm between basses. I've just sold my last one, and will hopefully be picking up my new one sometime soon. In the meantime I'm bassless Am I still allowed here?
You can't ever escape the collective after you've been assimilated...
I'm with Nik on this. For me, having owned a Wal Custom, I actually found that I couldn't get close to replicating the sounds of the other instruments I loved; the Wal always sounded like a Wal to me, no matter what I did with it. The Alembic I have now is similar; vast tonal range, but alway sounds like an Alembic rather than something else. Sadly I didn't get on very well with my Wal (had ergonomic issues and could never get the sound to work in my band of the time) but I'd still like another someday; particularly a Pro (preferably passive) which I've coveted since first hearing Leigh Gorman of Bow Wow Wow.
I'm convinced you'd absolutely love the sound of the Pro models Shaun and not just because that's what Leigh had always used.. I think they're slightly quirkier and a little more distinctive sounding...
If you do get the V3, I'd be really interested to know if the "preamp voicing" bit is any good...think this may call for a BC review
Good idea! Will decide which one (if any) over next few days and go from there...
My housemate has the third one, the one going for 33 pounds, and I've been really impressed by it -- I know someone else who has one as well, and loves his. They're pretty tough, and all metal on the outside, and they sound great. Never figured out why they were so cheap, guess they're just simple....probably just due to their not using high voltage. Really though, you can't really go wrong for the price, if it was me, I'd probably go for the v3 model....or the cheap one.
Thanks for the info; really helpful. My first thought was to go for the V3 but will have a think on it now..

Hi Folks, I'm thinking about getting an inexpensive tube pre-amp to give me a little more tonal variety with my sound as I have a solid state amp. Had a look on the net and discovered a range by ART tube pre-amps on Ebay, all of which seem pretty good and very good value. See here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=310087988495 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=300275174863 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270306316115 Just wondering if anyone has used/owned any of them and can let me know what they think of them.. Thanks Nik
