1. Very nice bass!! Bit too high up for my liking but a fine instrument nonetheless.. Happy Xmas!
 2.
Yup. Never thought I'd do this
Nor did I!!
£275 ono - treat yourself to a Christmas Cracker
I remember hearing this combo at the SE Bash and it sounded really, really good.. 'Tis a Christmas Cracker indeed Mert! Have a good one btw and good luck with the sale
 3.
You're always welcome at Beedster Towers Nik (bring that Wal and we'll play poker for it) Seriously, let's get together and talk basses and life soon mate. Yep, there is a special thing about pre-EBs. I've owned 5 EBs - from a '87 which was awesome to a '99 which wasn't - and a couple of SR5s and Bongos. There seems to be a quantitative difference between those and the LF era instruments however, i.e., something more than the arguably qualitative difference between pre- and post-CBS Fenders? Hard to pin down, but I guess it comes down to the quality of the materials used? Re trades, I've been offered a few Jazzes. Any early 70's Precisions out there...? Chris
+1 Sounds great.. Will get in touch after the New Year and arrange something after I've had a few months of poker lessons..
 4.
LOL Realised that, although I loved having it, I prefer to play a Precision (or even a Jazz ) when I play with the band. I guess I realised I was keeping the 'ray out of ego/sentiment as opposed to practicality. I keep saying it but I just prefer passive instruments (and I must remind myself of that when I consider buying another active). It's certainly not an easy bass to get rid of in that it's probably the best vintage bass I've owned, in terms of contruction it's in a league of it's own and the sound is a significant step above EB 'rays. There's also something about the fingerboard that I can't quite put my finger on (ironically), but it's the best I've ever played. I have to admit I was seriously thinking of putting in a passive PUP but am facing the fact that, if it's a Precision sound I'm after, I should just play a Precision . I'm only a 60 minute drive away if you want to try it...... All the best for Xmas Nik Chris
Hi Chris, I had one very similar to this back in 1995 which I sold to Martin Petersen at The Gallery in the end and it was lovely! Needed the money though at the time, so it had to go.. More recently, I played Kiwi's at the SE Bash and that was fabulous too; there is definitely something different about the pre EB Stingray's IMO (and I have owned 2 EB 'Rays as well to make that comparison..). As you say though, this comes down to the difference between a passive and active basses and it seems you're like me in generally preferring the sound of a passive bass.. My old Wal Pro 2e is the only exception to that rule for me. Would love to catch up with you at some point Chris and thanks for the offer of a visit to Beedster Towers! Have a great Xmas and New Year in the meantime and let's catch up in '09 sometime soon? Good luck with the sale/px/trade etc! Nik
 5. In true 'Carry on Basschat' fashion, Johnny drove over to Portsmouth on Sunday and diverted just enough out of his way to head into Littlehampton in order to shove some knobs through my door (ooh, err, Matron!!) And they were free too! Should look very nice on my Jazz 5 thanks very much.. Now you can't beat that for service can you?? Thanks John
 6. Very shocked to see this Chris?? Have you been on the Advocat already before Xmas??
 7. Over theyears I've owned both 4 & 5 string Wals and always preferred the 4 string models to the 5 string ones.. But I was lucky enough to have a play on one of the first 6 strings they ever made and it was absolutely wonderful.. To this day I don't really know why, but I much preferred the feel of the 6 string to the 5 string model.. If I had the money to buy one now, the 6 is what I'd go for..
 8.
I'd also like a bigger budget.
Never a more true word spoken on this forum For the record, a while back my rig consisted of a GK 700RB which cost me £210 on Ebay and a Peavey TVX 410 which cost me about £130 on Basschat and together, those two items sounded great for under £350 (including shipping). More recently, I upgraded the TVX to an SWR Triad, which cost me £200, and then I changed the GK to an Eden Nemesis NA650 which cost £310. Those two items all together cost just over £500 and were bought here on Basschat - from very helpful and friendly Basschatters I might add - and they sound even better. So I think with your budget of £550 you've got a lot of options.. Good luck with it!
 9.
The Fray. It was in Grey's Anatomy. It was a massive hit pretty much Worldwide.
Thanks!
 10.
We're thinking of adding that Nik - how does it go down?
It goes down great in our first set Matt.. Good fun to play too. Happy Christmas by the way; have a good one!
 11. That's a fabulous collection of gear! Do you have a roadie??
 12.
i've heard patch cables lose low end and you should only use titanium reinforced kevlar military grade space continium cables if you want the TRUE tone of your bass
Holy FX, Bassboy, sounds like a job for OBBM...
 13. Brilliantly quirky looking and all the more fabulous for it IMO! Haven't got the cash spare otherwise... Good luck with the sale!
 14. Went to see bassninja's band last night at The Eagle in Arundel, West Sussex. Arundel's a beautiful old town with a very strong 'artsy' community and there's a real appreciation of good live music.. Hence, the place was packed, the band were great, punters were loving it and the bassninja was seriously on form!! That Thumb 5 sounded absolutely gorgeous Cheers Wal; see you at the next one. Have a good Xmas in the meantime!
 15.
Not yet, though one of the contacts Si supplied has got back to me so hopeful still. Had to pull this Friday's gig though.
That's a shame but good luck with the other dates!
 16.
Remarkably like these little fellas, push fit for split shaft pots [no irritating grub screws like those little bastards of indeterminate size on the Geddy Lee].
I could do with those John if they're still available.. What's the deal exactly? Have PM'd you.. Nik
 17.
I had a 4x10 TX and I drilled it for (locking) castors no problem. Got the wheels from a Wickes/Homebase or some such store for about £10 for the 4
+1 I did the same when I had the TVX model and it worked a treat...
 18. Nice! The Smith looks great; I've always fancied one of those basses...
A second hand TE pedal from ebay?
+1 P.S. that's an absolutely evil looking avatar there Clauster!!
 20.
There's about another dozen or so to add to that too, though some of those on there need to come off really as we don't do them any more. What night's your singer free, if it's Friday coming or NYE (doubtful) could probably make it worth his while. Pete
He's gigging with us on the 19th and the 31st - sorry!
 21.
Enjoy your bass and have a Happy Christmas
+1
 22. That's bad news Pete! Our singer's busy with us on 2 of those nights otherwise I'd suggest it to him.. Will have a think to see if there's anyone I know of that could fit the bill. Just sorry I can't be of more help... P.S. that's some set list by the way....
 23.
Nik - You should try a blender with your effects.
never used one but worth looking into I suppose though ideally, what I'd really like to do is have another small rig, maybe with a 210, just for some effects... But the car's pretty full already at gigs as it is!
 24. Excellent idea that could save people a lot of time & money buying a 5 string they're not really suited for.. How many times has that been given as a reason for a sale on here... I see you wear that Santa hat for a reason
