1.
...didn't miss packing up at 1am in a sea of zombies!
Very accurate description of the early hours of the morning for me
 2.
worst lenny henry,he stopped being funny years ago!
+1
 3.
Depping with a function band in the Celtic Manor hotel in Newport, S. Wales. Long night - 6pm soundcheck, 5 other acts on first, finish our third set at 1.30am but the money is very good Cheers Alun
Very nice place, Celtic Manor IIRC.. We're gigging tonight at the 6 Bells in Chiddingly, East Sussex.. It's a small pub which holds 150 people and they've sold it out so it will be absolutely rammed.. Three sets, start at 9.30pm and finish at 1am; should be a great night! Happy New Year Folks - have a good one!
 4.
Nope, it was definitely my Aria. Unless you sold it to Northern Sounds, Workington, in 1986 that is ;-)
+1 T'was definitely your old Aria Pete..
 5.
The instrument you're looking at is almost certainly post 1981. If you're lucky, Bassassasin will pop up and post the yamaha guitars on line catalog link, I can't find it. I have a BB800 from c. 1979, similar to the one that Silverfoxnik sold, except that mine is tasteful black rather than dogshit brown ;-) It's an excellent bass, I'm only starting to understand how good it is now that I have bought one or two more instruments enabling me to do a direct comparison. Pete
Here's the one I had: They were well made and mine played really well.. Some nice features too IIRC, i.e. some ornate engraving on the bridge that looked great! Typically, yet another bass I wish I hadn't sold!
 6.
'Tis indeed great. But that doesn't look like Gail on the bass. From where I'm sitting it looks like she's playing a white Strat and some crysty in a headscarf is playing the bass? Not sure though as I did have a lot of beer last night and I'm not 100% certain my vivion is back to normal.
+1 Gail is a great bass player, but whenever I've seen Bowie doing this number with this line up, she always swaps to guitar on this number for some reason.. She's obviously not 'a slapper'!
 7.
And add: Leigh Gorman
+1 Definitely adding another vote for Leigh..
 8.
Good polar response = your cab sounding the same wherever you stand - much easier to get a great tone out front, on-stage and even over to your guitarist standing the far side of the stage. Almost like magic! Yes, great Xmas doing very little at all. Rather festively cold down here isn't it? Alex
OK, thanks Alex. I thought that was what you were saying but wasn't 100% sure.. Yep; too cold me thinks....
 9.
240 euros (240 pounds at current exchange rate)
That's a bit pricey I think but that's only my opinion of course.. As a comparison, I bought a 1986 Aria Pro II RBS Special fretless on this forum for approx £120 earlier this year and that was an excellent bass, quite similar to the Yamaha you're looking at..
 10.
For further clouding of said waters, I find the Spector's mids quits prominent too. Like this, I think...
That explains it then chaps.. Our ears weren't deceiving us!
 11.
This is almost identical to the bass I´ve been offered (the only real difference is condition). Is that what you meant by a p-bass clone ? I think it´s probably from the 70´s.
It looks like an early 80's model to me but I can't be certain by any means. And yes, to me that's a very, very nice P-Bass clone with it's own character.. What sort of figure are you talking?
 12.
Herbie Flowers?
+1 Very good call! Sometimes with these Top 10 type threads, they seem to be more about who people think is the 'flashest bass player' or the 'fastest bass player' or the 'best slapping bass player' etc, etc.. which aren't the qualities that would ever define 'best' for me. Most of the people mentioned already are great players, each in their own unique way and as a result they bring different qualities to the fore, which have helped to define and develop the role of the bass guitar or bass as an instrument in modern music..
 13.
Not half as disturbing as me neighbours are finding it.
And a Happy New Year to them!!
 14.
I don't like Muse but them bass sounds are just plain amazing...
+1 Not just great sounds but great playing and imagination too.. Anyone else astonished at the bass on 'Beat It' being played with a pick?
 15. Lovely looking bass Steve! I had one of these a year or two ago and still regret selling it as it sounded fabulous... TBH, I'm not in the market for any more basses at the moment, so the best I cab do is wish you luck with the sale and wish you a Happy New Year! BUMP
 16. That's a nice bass!!
 17.
And here's a comparison of on and off-axis response. The joy of a having a full crossover to a midrange speaker with a low crossover frequency and steep filter slopes is that you get smooth flat midrange response wherever you stand in the room - no woofer+tweeter cab can achieve this and no 3-way bass cab I know of uses a crossover topology that can achieve this. To get smooth off-axis response in the treble region would need an additional tweeter which I'm working on but I think this would be rather wasted on us bassists - should be an amazing PA cab though! Alex
Hi Alex, I'm not quite sure I can follow the technicalities of what you're saying exactly, so instead I look forward to hearing it in action at some point soon! Hope all's well and that you've had a good Xmas in the meantime... Nik
 18. I had a chance to compare my Eden Nemesis NA650 with Johnnylager's new Hartke LH1000 on Saturday. Using John's active Spector bass and with both amps alternating through my SWR Triad, I was really surprised to find that the Eden's inherent tone had more mids in it than the Hartke, and that was with tone controls on both amps set flat. To get the Eden closer to the tone of the Hartke, we had to dial in some of the Eden's 'enhance' control, which is effectively a mid-cut and bass/treble boost..
 19. Don't know if this is any help Andy but two years ago I sold a BB800 on Ebay in average condition for about £125, which was a bit below what I thought it was worth (being a 25 year old Yamaha P-bass clone).. At the time, I was hoping for about £150 because of the quality of materials, construction, playability etc, etc... Hope that helps
 20.
Have you found a secret stash then Nik!?
I wish!!
 21.
Demetriades 1x15 - Silverfoxnik
Somehow, I find this slightly disturbing...
 22.
Is there pudding? I love pudding, especially with brandy. On second thoughts, can you skip the pudding and just give me the brandy insead?
Pudding has all gone but there's a few dregs of Brandy left in the unwashed-up brandy custard pan....
 23.
bump
Don't know about the cab, but your avatar is definitely worth trading
 24.
