Very warm sounding amps IMO..Had a Nemesis NA 650 and now have the Metro.. Overall, I'm very happy as the feature set in both cases is excellent and the sound suits me down to the ground. The only things that the Metro doesn't really give is any kind of over-driven valve sound. As with all these things though, best try to hear one with your own bass first if you can..
Interestingly the latest BGM that came throught the letterbox this morning has a feature and review on compressors. Also I retrieved my dbx163a from the garage. It's only got one knob and a slider so Isuppose that means it will have to go.
...what else have you got lurking in that garage Dave...? The Orange head, this DBX etc, etc..Seems to me like it's a bit of an Aladdin's Cave! -

Just need to set a date for the venue with Hamster...then announce it in Jan 2011 so we can all get it in our diaries nice and early! -

BUMP for an amazing bass that totally defies your expectations! Along with the Fodera Jazz on Born2bMild's stand (also lovely) , this is one of the few basses I got a chance to play at the SE Bash yesterday... And though it looks like a very boutique, 'hi-fi' sounding bass, it is so much more than that! It has a really simple e.q. system that gives you a huge variety of tones without any effort at all..Plays beautifully too and the build quality is truly exceptional. Not possible for me to buy sadly, but at this price I have to say that I think it's a real steal! Good luck with the sale Jack
Sorry, chaps. After having been packed and ready last night, something's come up and I'm going to have to bail out last minute today. Have fun and I look forward to the photos. Please could you add my Drums on Demand Vol 1 drum tracks to the raffle. I'll post it to the winner. These are gear real drum loops in 24 bit WAV format. See drumsondemand.com. They come in at around £30.
Hi Folks Sean - sorry but i didn't see your post until this morning! Please could we offer your donation to Simon1964 if he'd be interested in it as he did have a winning ticket but there wasn't a prize we knew he wanted..? So, I had a gig last night after the Bash and it a real joy as a result of 5im0n sorting out my DBX compressor for me - had an absolutely awesome sound at long last! Thanks mate.. And thanks not only to Si, but also Mr Lager, Urb and Alex for their workshops too. They were all brilliant and this comment below says everything to me about them.
Huge thanks to the organisers - I believe my steep learning curve just got a little shallower thanks to the workshops. Great stuff - look forward to the next!
Next year, I wonder if we should hold the workshops in a manner where people actually have a bass with them, so they are slightly more interactive? Thanks also to Hamster (Colin) for dealing with all the financials and Mrs Hamster (Sarah) for all their hard work in terms of the venue & refreshments etc! Plus thanks to WalMan, Kraken etc all the others who helped get set-up in the morning.. In terms of the 'beyond the call of duty' awards, I've got to mention Born2Mild (Phil) for travelling all the way from the frozen North to be there and of course, Happy Jack for being there despite his injury/operation & Paul for coming to do the drums for us..! I've got some photos and when I've worked out how to get my Blackberry working with my computer again, I'll upload them. Thanks to all who came and to those who donated to the Raffle, which has helped raise money for good causes - especially ones that mean something to Old Git and his family! As has already been said, RIP Si! -

Good News! ..amazingly, Happy Jack is now able to make the Bash on Saturday and he is bringing his drummer Paul with him (who was there last year). And I have managed to acquire a small drum kit as well, so we are in a 'Go' situation with regards to the Jam Room!! Jack will also help run the Quiet Room, albeit with slightly less mobility than last year! Thanks in advance to Jack and Paul for offering to help, Josh for the loan of teh kit and Walman for helping with bringing it along on the day.. -

Thanks guys! How about you do the 11am slot John and maybe another session later as people arrive through the day - we could set up a seperate space for you as the Foyer is so large.. And 51m0n, what about you doing the 1pm slot? So it'd look like this: Workshop 1: 11 am - johnnylager - setups Workshop 2: 12 pm - urb - music theory & music media Workshop 3: 1pm - 51m0n - compression & compressors Workshop 4: 2pm - alexclaber - bass tones/using your amp/e.q. advice Phil - we're booked until 6pm I think but because it'll be dark by then and the weather might be bad, it would be best to wrap up at 5pm I think.. Workshops 1. Compression/Compressors - 51m0n 2. Bass tones/using your amp/e.q. advice - alexclaber 3. 'Set up' masterclass - johnnylager 4. Music Theory / Music Media - urb Mike's offerd to do his session at 12pm, so with that in mind, Alex, John & 51m0n - do you want to let me know what time(s) are good for you? I'd suggest we go something like 45 minute sessions, times as follows: Workshop 1: 12pm - urb Workshop 2: 1pm - ? Workshop 3: 2pm - ? Workshop 4: 3pm - ? Unless anyone fancies doing an 11am slot? And then we could run charic's idea for a session - sort of like a 'knowledge exchange' through out the day, in and around the workshops.. Nik -
Hey all - Nick in particular - I know it's not the same but I can bring my loop pedal which comes with some fairly OK drum patterns programmed in - and or a laptop that can provide beats etc - then at least some folks can have a jam - might be organised chaos mind Re the Q&A I'd be happy to take part in something - I know a fair bit about music theory etc (I'm not such a god-like-genius as Jake but hey I play a bit of jazz!) and I could talk about writing - though I'll state unequivocally that I'm not a spokesman for BGM - but obviously it could be interesting to have a chat about the music media etc - dunno if that sounds like a goer? Cheers Mike
Hi Mike Thanks for chipping in to help out - much appreciated! Regarding the loop pedal, that would be great because one of the nice things about having the Jam Room last year, was the chance to try out a bass and play it away from the main room and to be able to 'play it' as if you were rehearsing or gigging with it..Don't know about anyone else, but hearing a bass withoit any other instruments only tells you one part of the story; having a chance to hear it again a drum beat makes a big difference! So - yes please to the loop pedal.. As for the Q&A, again, that would be just perfect..It provides a chance for a bit of music theory and also, something on the music media would be very interesting too.. Adrian from BGM did a bit on that at the 2008 Bash and it was really good.. So I will update the Workshops thread to include you if that's OK.. What time can you be there to do that btw? Cheers Nik -

Hi Folks, Couple of urgent things: 1) Looks like my 2 available drummers have now both let me down for the day, so we won't be able to have a Jam Room which is a real shame.. Unless anyone knows a drummer who'd be interested in coming along for the day or part of the day? I could get a kit if that helps, so they'd only have to bring themselves... 2) As Happy Jack can't be with us (which is a real shame) perhaps the foyer area which doubled as the Quiet Room and the Workshop Area could be used for the Workshops and also include this idea from charic: "How about a small group of people say 5, each knowing their stuff in each area just available for a Q&A session?" I'm also looking for someone who'd be happy to take charge of the Raffle on the day? Cheers Nik
