1.
Sold! pending picking up and paying out! Thanks for all the PMs and posts. I didn't pay much for it originally, and the flats were 2nd hand from a Basschatter, so would prefer to move this on to a fellow BC'er in the same spirit of bargainess. (new word invented )
Great new word! This thread/sale is what Basschat is all about IMO...
2.
Good luck for the sale and all the best especially for Mrs C to get on the mend.
+1 All the best with it Clarky...hope all is OK!
3. Great story; thanks for that!! I do remember the cigarette burn...sadly, owning the bass didn't help impove my slapping skills I owned it from 2005 to 2010 and i bought it from fellow Basschatter Gwilym, who'd bought it s/h at GAK a year or two before.. Interestingly, Gwylim sold it to me with two of the electronic circuit boards - the original one and a spare one.. The circuit boards on these are attached to the scratchplate and are numbered so you know if you have the right one for the bass. I sold the second one and had a little bit of work done on the original board as it was not working 100% as it should. The bass finally got the attention it deserved when Happy Jack had Paul Herman service it properly last year, so I bet it sounds fantastic now!
4. An Easter Weekend 'Christ, it's f'ing hot' kind of B-U-M-P!!
5.
Great songs. DIY ethic with her new label, I want her to tour. She is spellbinding.
+1 I saw her on what was I think, here one and only tour, in the late 70's at the then Hammersmith Odeon and it was sensational! If she decided to tour now, she could probably tour continually for 2 or 3 years, the demand would be so strong..
Love her. Not sure we need a director's cut of "Flower of the Mountain" (The Sensual World) - the original was soooo effin' perfect.
+1 Sounds good though...
6.
Well, well, well. This bass used to belong to me. I sold it in 1992, to a guy in Macclesfield. It's got a quite a special history, if anyone is interested?
yes please! It was mine for a while too...
7.
Think you'll find the majority of the audience are standing in the space between the performers. The few who are seated are usually in the area behind the particular week's cool / legendary / old acts (delete as required) and often seem to be friends of the act or chosen due to their dress sense! ( Incidentally if you get to be in the audience you are asked to wear dark clothing so as not to stand out too much!!) Think the audience is essential for the prog, gives it much more of a gig feel - anyone remember Bob Harris mumbling platitudes after a stonking performance by bands on Whistle Test in the 70's ? - not good. Still love the show though, thought this weeks was pretty good. In the absence of any other dedicated live music shows on the main channels it still fulfills it's function IMO. Have discovered a number of artists over the years that I probably would have overlooked otherwise. Would n't be too upset if it had a revamp so long as the basic idea was retained. And guess I'm alone in thinking the sound is okay too?!! ( could be my advancing years / deafness I suppose? )
+1 A large number of the audience is made up of the various artist's management/record label/publisher/friends etc... Despite it's perceived faults, the key for me is that Later a) does promote and support live music and it provides an outlet for many acts that would otherwise never get on mainstream TV..
8.
KD Lang blew them all off stage. Fleet Foxes....too much knitware for my liking.
Thought Vintage Trouble's lead singer was a real 'star' - the kind they used to make before it became the norm for male singers to end up in dodgy boy bands or singing crap ballads on talent competitions.. I'm a huge KD Lang fan and it was really good to see her playing again with a band that has a lot of verve and energy..
9. Anyone on here a Guillemots fan? http://www.guillemots.com/ I saw them on Monday night in London and their bass player, Aristazabal Hawkes, used a double bass and a P bass and she had a really great sound on both instruments! Looked to me like she was using an Ashdown head with an Ampeg 810, along with some kind of 1u overdrive/distortion effects unit which made the bass a real feature in some songs.. I was wondering if anyone here knows more about what gear she uses? It was a brilliant gig and her playing reminded me in parts of Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads).. very simple grooves that hold the tunes together. Definitely worth seeing!
10. ...and don't forget Leigh Gorman from Adam & The Ants (circa 1979/80) and BowWowWow of course....
11.
Disagree! Outrageously wild version of Constant Craving. That band knows what they're doing.
+1
12. Great photos as usual!! I had one of these basses for a while and they're really good...upgraded eventually to a TRB, but for the money, these are excellent! Good luck with sale
13. BUMP for TRADE options... I'd be interested in trading this, if anyone has a good DI box or anything similar which has a good DI attached - e.g an Aguilar Tonehammer?
14. Congratulations Dood!
15. Great looking bass! Good luck with the sale/trade
16. That looks so playable, for want of a better phrase...
17. First Bass Owned: Hondo II Rickenbacker copy 'Go To' Bass: Fender Roscoe Beck V 'Your' Bass: 1984 BC Rich Eagle
18. Lovely looking bass, though at 16.5mm at the bridge, too narrow for me.. As a matter of interest, is it a bolt-on or through-neck design? Good luck with the sale
19.
For anyone who is interested in these, Russ is a top dude to do business with
+1 Great player too.....
20. This is such a beautiful looking bass, I'm really surprised it hasn't been snapped up at this price! Especially when you consider that another Bacchus 5 on here has just sold for more.. So a free BUMP for a great bass and a top Basschatter!
21. +1 to all the above and the OP especially! There is a great community spirit here on Basschat which sets it apart in my view from a lot of other music forums I've seen. For example, a couple of years ago, in response to a problem i was having with a low-output bass, leschirons sent me an Aphex bass xCiter pedal to try out.. he sent it free of charge from France and was really helpful in terms of using it and advised on other options that could help me.. When i bought a cab from Ebay once, TheRev helped ship it to me from the Bristol area as the Ebay seller didn't want the hassle of shipping..again - free of charge!! Those are just two of a number of examples I could cite of my personal experiences of where that Basschat community spirit has come to the fore.. Definitely something worth celebrating IMHO and long may it continue.
22. Thanks folks! That's a real help....
23. Only just seen this CK; absolutely fantastic! More of the same please...
