Hi Folks, It's time to forget the recession, forget the fact that the England Women's football team is better than the mens and forget the fact that you're not friends on Facebook with Tal Wilkenfeld (er, unless you are of course)... So dust off you brilliant collection of basses, your amazing array of amps and all your other interesting bass stuff, and bring it all down to the.. South East Bass Bash No.5 ..because we've all got nothing better to do (yet again) and because we're continually inspired by all the other totally brilliant Basschat Bashes around the country and because we want to see you all again of course..plus we want to make a lot of noise! So, for your delectation and enjoyment, here are the details you need to know: Date: Saturday 24 September 2011 Time: 10am - 5pm Venue: Jubilee High School, Surrey, School Lane, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 1TE Venue link: Jubilee High School Website MAP LINK Format: 1 x general area to set up your gear, plus 1 x quiet room/workshop area with workshops through the day, plus Jamming room, plus cafeteria, plus Raffle Spaces: The Quiet Room' and the Theatre for Workshops The Jamming Room for jamming with drummers (and other strange non-bass playing people) Main Hall (where you can set up your gear) Plus we have a few new ideas we're considering, such as a 'Swap Shop' area for example... And a 'no slapping' ban, punishable by having to pay a donation towards the charities! Cost: £10 for the day Last year, it cost about £185 for the hire of the venue plus an amount for some public liability insurance cover therefore to cover those basic costs, we need to charge £10 per head entrance fee to one and all! Charities: We will donate all profits from the day to a worthy cause or two (details to be confirmed): Refreshments will be available on the day for a small charge of course which will help increase the profits and keep everyone happy! Last year Hamster & Mrs Hamster did all the work on that and have offered to do so again, so many thanks in advance to them! Workshops As ever, we are looking for offers from people to run workshops...so any ideas/requests are welcomed. Bassace has offered to get involved with a Double bass workshop already which is great, but that may be subject to his availability on the day, so if anyone else would like to contribute to that workshop as well, it'd be much appreciated. One suggestion I've had already is for a workshop on how to e.q. your rig for different venues, so if someone fancies that challenge, then please PM me...I could really see that working well if we had a drummer and guitarist available on the day as well.... I think it would also be worthwhile if we had a workshop based upon comparing different basses, different amps etc.. And one on music theory too! So if anyone is feeling bold and brave, then please step forward now!!! Please Help What would be really helpful from everyone who's interested in partcipating on the day is: 1. Donations of raffle prizes 2. Ideas/requests for the workshops 3. Volunteers to help out on the day (if needs be) What'd be good now is to use this thread to get an idea of who's coming and what gear they'll be bringing..So, to get the ball rolling here's a list of the people I know who are coming: UPDATED LIST:
01.
Here is my December 1981 U.S.A. TJ Mockingbird bass, technically it was made in Tiajuana Mexico, but it is still classed as a USA Handmade. A piece of pure class, totally hand carved, body and neck Wings are SOLID Pacific East coast maple, known as quilted maple.Rosewood Stringers.Neck is flame maple and the 24 fret fingerboard is Rosewood. It is nearly entirely original, with the exception of the jackplate, when I got it, someone had put a Football shaped plate on it, I have replaced it with the correct type plate. The saddles were on the wrong way around when it arrived, and one was beyond saving, so I had to buy a complete NEW bridge, just to get the saddle, the saddles are now the correct way around! Has 2 holes where someone moved the strap buttons, quite a bit of worming on the rear (Not through the paint).A few little dimples in the front (Not through the paint).Small loss of paint on the lower horn tip (And I mean SMALL).Worse part is laquer missing off the top face of the headstock on the right hand side as you look at it. Grover Titan tuners, Leo Quan original Badass Bridge, DiMarzio pick ups, Neal Moser designed electronics :- Booster with vol control, 6 position varitone etc etc Original hardcase, has a defective clasp, you need to move the button accross by hand to shut it, spring must be buggered Asking £1800 plus shipping, collection prefered
Amazing - i bet it sounds fantastic...Good luck with the sale Lorne!
Thought I'd close this. Having not spent much longer tahn around a month with the Stingray HH, and then having tried a Jazz and a heavily pimped Squier Jag P/J (lovely bass by the way), I'm now pretty much decided on my old Ric 4003 FL, which was recently repatriated from Wales courtesy of Greg (Shaggy), who did a great job or sourcing original Ric PUPs for it. I have to admit that, in relation to this thread, it would have been way down my initial list, but I and the band love it, and it just works for the music we're doing Funny how things work out isn't it.
Wow - that's an unexpected turn up for the books Chris!!
David Bowie, 1976-83
Good call, but i'd say, David Bowie 1971-80... Otherwise, Kate Bush (if only she'd tour again) -
http://www.bass-guitar-museum.com/bass-282...hort-Scale-Bass I swapped my home made bitsa Jazz for one of these On friday night (with some money my way as well of course). It's surprisingly fun, my original plan was to rip out the pickups and stick them in my scary dave bass, as I quite like the gutsy old school sound of them. However, if, as this mad website suggests, I can get 200 odd quid for it, I should probably sell it as is, and buy some decent pickups. It is without doubt, as big a piece of sh1t as all old Kay basses ever were. They have not aged well, they are fun to mess about on, but not £250 fun, not by a long shot. Would take pictures of mine, but it looks like the one on the website, just without the dopey picture on the plate, which looks after market on mine as well, but can't be. Just badly lined up. Where's Jon when you need him eh?
Wow; My first ever bass! Bought by my parents from Woolworths as a Xmas present ... Must have been 1974 - I was 13 and it cost about £20 I think... Happy days!

After John's brilliant 'Set-ups Masterclass' at last years's SE Bass Bash, he very kindly took pity on me after my failed attempts at setting up my Yamaha TRB 5, and last night, sorted out the bass for me.. ..which now plays really well and is as in tune as a bass can be! Before I play it of course... So thanks John for the help, the beer and the books!! Nik P.s. Yet another example of just how brilliant Basschat and this community of Basschatters can be...

Nice post! It's definitely true that 'all that glisters is not gold', though trying to stay true to that idea with Basschat around is another story!

Fodera Victor Wooten '83 Monarch Classic.
silverfoxnik replied to flippyfloop's topic in Basses For Sale
A free BUMP just to say that I played this bass a few years ago when Andre was selling a Wal Mach II which I went over to check out for Mike G.. He'd only just got the Fodera at the time and it was really interesting to be able to compare it directly with the Wal.. Though they're very different animals and I do love Wal basses, the Fodera had something just a little more 'exotic' and 'boutique' about it...Hard to put it into words exactly, but the only other bass I've played that had a such a similar quality, was an Alembic.. Anyway, the Fodera really is a fabulous instrument and that pre-amp is something special... Good luck with the sale! -
I think it depends on what you are prepared to pay, but I would have thought somewhere around the £2k mark..

+1 to that IMO, though having a low action is easier to play, the trade off is that the tone is better when the action is that bit higher.
