  1. Considering how talented John Taylor is, shouldn't everyone worship Duran Duran, or how about The Cure, Gallup is amazing. I recently started learning Come Undone, what a great bass arrangement! Lost count of how many Cure songs I've learned, they're more my style, but I do like Duran Duran's darker period.
  2. I do a Lemmy shave every 24-December, on his birthday, then take a photo with my bass headstock alongside my mug for the FB group, but sadly that largest MH group on FB got shut down: facebook.com/groups/themotorheadgroup Last year on his birthday a lot of people got their posts flagged, because Lemmy was giving the middle-finger & wearing an Iron Cross. I guess more & more posts were getting flagged until, Blammo, shut down w/o warning. In other news, I no longer have a headstock:
  3. That's exactly why I used it, even Nico had a following. I believe she influenced your own Siouxsie Sioux...
  4. exactly, even as melancholy as Nico was, she influence later artists & might even have a hand in proto-Goth:
  5. I'm not too cool to recognize a well-crafted Pop-Rock winner, my vote goes to: Steve Kipner David Frank Pamela Sheyne the writers of this gem:
  6. I'm just kidding, put some cobalt flats on there & never look back:
  7. Couple of months, you don't change your strings every 45 days like the rest of us? 😀
  8. take the saddle off, take it to your local hardware store & find a shorter screw
  9. I had a 7 lb. Ibanez with the 2x2 headstock that was on the verge of neck-dive with the standard machine-heads on it. The body that made it 6 lbs. actually did present neck-dive. I owned a U.S. G&L ASAT, now talk about neck-dive, but they have the short upper horn, Telecaster shape. There was a guy boasting on another forum about his 7 lb. L-2000, Empress body, but he was honest that it has neck-dive, but he also tries to downplay it. The 4-inline headstock, combined with the thick neck, are risky for neck-dive on G&Ls IME, which is a bummer, because they have The Best pickups in those MFDs. I think most people compensate by using a suede strap, which would grip your shirt & prevent the neck from sliding down. I don't actually like leather straps & have nylon or neoprene seat-belt style straps, so I'm the first person who is going to notice an imbalance situation. At least one big builder has openly stated that his basses don't have neck-dive, the users just need better straps. I won't even look at their products, LOL!
  10. You're basically calling me a liar already, my experience with these instruments means nothing?
  11. They were less than courteous on the telephone & they have some sort of posh by appointment only 'showroom'. If anyone tells me an under 7 lb. G&L doesn't have balance issues, I will call them a liar.
  12. I live near Rocket, wouldn't trust them, & that is my truth!
  13. My advice is to always buy a G&L with MFD pickups. IF you like p-basses, get the SB-1 or the SB-2. The SB-2 has the bridge pickup. IF you want something that can do almost anything, get the L-2000. My only complaints about G&L are the weight & the 4-inline headstock. If you get one lightweight enough, there will be neck-dive.
  14. There are definitely a lot of things most bass players stick to, traditional stuff, I'm not one of those people. I see guitar-players asking in bass forums, "How do I think like a bass player?", just be yourself is my advice, LOL!
  15. Watching her right now on Happy Days:
  16. This is why a lot of 5-string basses are 35" scale. You can try lowering the action, check the neck-relief first & get it almost flat, maybe a 1/4 of a millimeter. However, when setting neck-relief that low, check both sides of the fretboard, in case they're not equal. When fretting the string at the 12th fret, you only need to touch the fret, don't use too much force, which will make it sharp. Another consideration is the core, hex-core & round-core intonate differently, but TBH I'm not sure which would be a better option.
  17. Only if you use all the strings, including the 1st...
  18. I've long ago come to the conclusion that I am just not like 99% of the other bass players. I dislike a lot of the stuff that gets touted as GREAT by everyone else. Even when other people were enjoying their Ergonomic Headless basses, I can't recall any of them raving about how comfortable they are, but the BEST attribute for ME. So basically, everyone else is enjoying their stuff incorrectly! 😀
  19. yeah, but... There are lots of amps & basses out there that can do a Modern sound & be dialed back for Vintage sounds, and there are no Vintage-sounding instruments & amps that can be dialed UP for Modern sounds, IME one exception for me was a EVH amp that I tried to use as a bass amp, just too much Gain, & I LOVE Gain
  20. I do wonder why Pure Tone decided to do it backwards from everyone else.
  21. That photo perplexes me, because every other photo I've seen of the pinout shows the shortest straw is the Tip:
  22. A reliable good-quality system is not cheap & if you do cheap out it will be the luck of the draw whether it works well or is crap on a stick: https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-headless/products/4-string-headless-bass-bridge
  23. They're not really independent, the Capacitance of both caps is summed, unless you wire it like a Gibson. The drawback to a Gibson's wiring is that either volume can completely silence the instrument, so your treble-cut controls are more independent, BUT your volume controls are not. Always a compromise, somehow!
