  1. Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult
  2. If this thread proves anything, it’s that there’s a perfect looking bass for everyone and that bass will make others retch. Vive la diffence!
  3. I know they have their devotees, but I can’t help asking, “Why, just why?” 🤢
  4. Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) - C+C Music Factory
  5. It's not just the Mustang that is ugly in my sound generation.
  6. Lee Sklar is a force of nature and a total legend. However, eventually, you can't run around the country like that and then go and pick up a truck load of gravel when you're getting on; Lee is 75! I couldn't do all that he does and I'm quite a bit younger.
  7. Despite thinking it is/was ugly, I bought a Mustang. The looks are challenging, but it grows on you and the ergonomics (upper fret access notwithstanding) seem to suit me.
  8. Given the cost of a university degree, I’ve long been touting the idea, to anyone who’ll listen to my ravings, that businesses, etc should sponsor degrees and you pay them back by working for them for a number of years. The amount of folk I know who have degrees, some of them doctorates, and are doing nothing vaguely associated with their field of study, perplexes me. Never feel like that. I learnt more by teaching some things than I ever did studying it (I suppose I was studying, just not in the traditional sense).
  9. I hated school too (well, I hated primary and tolerated secondary). Weirdly enough, my last job before retiring was teaching primary school children, which I can state categorically was the best and most rewarding job I’ve ever had (the politics, however, can go and do one).
  10. Good luck with the move, never a relaxing event.
  11. Me, every year. 😂
  12. Try some sunflower oil on a piece of kitchen towel (or another light cooking oil). Sounds ridiculous, but it really works, as does tahini or smooth peanut butter, but they both leave an odour. I mentioned this fix to a friend of mine, who is a chemistry teacher and he was unsurprised and said that oils are known for their ability to break stuff down.
  13. That really is a lovely thing. As a recent short scale convert, this really tickles my GAS receptors. GLWTS.
  14. If left in close proximity like that, they'll breed. They're not to be trusted.
  15. Now, if Jens had just done the colour swatches on the body and left the pickups and fretboard as normal, that would work. A real example of less being more and more being so much less.
  16. Great intro. P bass with a pick for US punk? What’s not to like? Those Tidepool P basses are so cool, I’ve come close to buying a mostly unnecessary one of those on more than one occasion and I still keep looking (I think they look even better with a tort scratchplate, YMMV).
  17. I’m confused, I haven’t previously posted in this thread.
  18. Papa’s Gotta Brand New Baguette - James Brown
  19. Appreciate the clarification, thanks. 👍
  20. I find it has a slightly different voice (pun unintended) too. But, you’re right, it is a supercardoid design, just like the standard 58, the SM57 and my old D5 (and many others of course).
  21. But you did do it. No one can take that away from you.
  22. I used to use an AKG D5, when I was doing backing vocals. When I joined a band where I was singing lead, the FOH guy (who I know and respect) told me that my mic was doing me no favours. My immediate thought was SM58, however, following a bit of research, it seemed that a straight ahead SM58 wasn’t the way forward, but an SM58 beta was. Bought one and I’ve never looked back. The right mic for you can make a big difference, not only to you vocals but also to your confidence, which inevitably improves your vocals further.
  23. You guys are living the dream, kudos.
  24. Yeah, I realised it wasn’t all about me and the recordings were very good indeed and if I hadn’t heard the original rough mix, I would have probably been OK with it. Still irritating, nonetheless.
