    I had them on 2 prior basses (a GWB35 and a Roscoe Beck signature), I found them useful. I don’t have any basses with them now and can only surmise that what I liked about them, was the extended thumb rest, rather than the consistent depth under the strings.

    My dad used to play The Ted Heath Orchestra, The Peddlers (organ trio), Tom Jones, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Wes Montgomery, James Last and others, but these are the ones that immediately spring to mind. I could listen to them now and still appreciate the. However, I went my own way with ‘70s pop, until I was exposed to Deep Purple and everything changed and I became a blues rock fan. Back then, certainly not now, I was a massive Clapton fan, who then became one of my dad’s favourite artists. It turns out that we influenced each other. Did what my parents played influence what I play/listen to now? I guess at some level, yes. However, on face value and even looking a bit beyond that, I’d have to say no.

    Vincent are clearly not aware of the rhyming slang, ‘pony & trap’ . I can see why they used it, but maverick might have been a better choice.

    Need to? Probably not for live work. Did I? Yes (inveterate tinkerer syndrome/too much time on my hands). Was there a noticeable difference? Yes, again. Definitely less buzz. If being used in a noisy environment, when recording, this might possibly be the difference between using the JMJ or something else.

    Sustain on the skinny strings of an electric guitar may be desirable, but on a bass? I’m with @NancyJohnsonon this. In fact, something that might limit sustain might actually be a good thing for mainstream music. Experimental, ambient and possibly solo pieces might be a different kettle of fish.

    Very true. The reverse is same I'm led to believe. For the most part, I think bass players are quite self deprecating and are their own worst critics. I'm no different in this respect. Hence my complete surprise when I was ask to provide bass on an upcoming session, by a recording artist (more details to follow, if all goes well).

    A sad indictment of a lot of organised religion as a whole. However, whilst it doesn’t gladden me as such, that I can’t/won’t take part in organised religious services, I do enjoy the sense of freedom to practise in my own way, it my disconnect provides.

    Not my first exposure to that scenario. And the potential alienation that goes with it? Be very careful, the whole thing could sour your relationship with the church. You might find yourself on the end of some very unchristian behaviour - "They say that they care but, their actions say otherwise," the evidence is already there. Best of luck with what you decide.
