  1. It surprises me that the ski-jump rarely gets mentioned in the dealers ads.
  2. Good suggestion. Will ask, thanks!
  3. The decal itself looks pretty good indeed. I expected it to look more like this though when being original: All examples I've found have these vivid outlines of the decal surfaces. But I don't know if there are the occasional deviations.
  4. Its for sale at a shop. its a refin btw.
  5. Dear vintage lovers. I am looking into a '65 Jazz Bass. The seller says the logo and headstock finish are original. Though it all looks a bit pale to me, compared to most I've seen. Any opinions on this? Second picture is under uv light.
  6. It's truly an exceptional instrument. If these big necks are for you, it can't get much better. Btw it's fitted with ernie ball cobalt flats which are fantastic on a P (like good rounds, but a bit smoother and very even).
  7. Could be. A search through Google learns that some seem to have nickel tuners indeed, but chrome tuners seem most common for a '87.
  8. Alembic Europa 1992 For sale is my beautiful Alembic Europa from the early ’90s. The bass is in very good condition. It has some usermarks and small damages, but looks great overall. Everything works like it should and the neck plays great with a very low action. The neck is straight and well adjustable, frets are still good too. This bass has a broad range of sounds with it’s 2 pickups, eq and filter controls. Nut width: 41mm String spacing: 19mm Weight is 4,45kg on my kitchen scale. Balance is good, it’s ergonomically a comfortable instrument. A softcase is included in the sale. Not sure if it came originally with the bass. I’ve been told it is by the previous owner, but it’s not branded. It’s a fantastic bass, but other type basses fit my needs better. Lowered fixed price: €3.650 (list price from Alembic starts at $17.250 for this model). I am located in the Netherlands, but experienced in shipping if needed. Trades/partial trades are welcome; I am especially interested in a <='66 (refin) dots&binding jazz bass, Modulus 34" quantum or earlier Flea, Rickenbacker 4001, strat/jazzmaster or other offset, Epiphone sj200 1957. I’ve got other cool basses too that I could offer in a trade.
  9. Don't let these little annoying issues kill the pleasure for you! Tone pot issues are easy to address for a few bucks. And that 120 string; you could always make the string entrance hole just a little bit larger if that helps. I don't think the maker of this bridge expected someone to use such a heavy gauge for this bass. Personally it wouldn't be my choice either as I never go thicker than 105 😀. Awesome bass btw.
  10. Nice one! The serial decoders can be pretty unreliable indeed. I had an '94 that was identified as a '85 through the database.
  11. I assume you keep it that low by having the parcels declared as a "gift"?
  12. I'd love to have one. Preferably the silver finish like this. Needs to be eu based unfortunately.
  13. With Fender I'd say up to the early 80s with the Elite models, Precision Special and Dan Smith ending an era of bad quality and trying to get back in the game. In the later 80s the American standards were introduced, which for me marks the "new" era. As often discussed, "vintage" is a heavily abused label that you even see in ads for MiM Fenders from the early zero's
  14. This indeed. I rarely accept standard PayPal. And if so, I must be sure that the buyer won't be screwing me. So they need to have tracable feedback, and probably do a video call or something. But mostly buyers understand why I don't want to use the standard PayPal. In that case I offer to send them enough evidence for their assurance.
  15. Indeed ask for a bit of evidence, and maybe do a video call where the seller can show the bass. It's also wordt checking out the feedback for the seller on this site and/or elsewhere. Ive used banktransfer mostly for trades on here, and never had any trouble.
  16. Even very decently priced stuff doesn't seem to move easily. Like the fretless '76 rickenbacker with ohsc for £1900 on here. I have expected it to move pretty quick tbh... The prices on the used market have rocketed in the last years. But the same has for new instruments. It's totally normal to see a MiM Fender (roadworn signature) at €1600+ new... Music Man stuff has doubled... It all reflects in the prices for used stuff too. And of course there is the vintage market. I love vintage basses or semi vintage basses with some historical interesting aspects, and am aware that a huge part of the price is in the authenticity, era-specific etc. Until a certain point I'm happy to pay a premium for that "mojo". Like I prefer original pressings of vinyl records and pay a bit extra in favor of a reissue. As said in an earlier post; most cheaper basses built nowadays will be technically better built than most vintage (Fender especially) basses. Personally I've seen squier affinity basses that had a tighter built quality than any 60s Fender I've held in my hands. The oldies we're all nice, but from a practical view not 6k nicer than an good American standard or similar. I'm surprised you can still see the asking prices for late 70s Fenders rise, with many being listed at €3500-€4000. Most of them are so poorly built (fit & finish), you wouldn't even accept it from a €100 bass if bought new.
  17. Music Man Stingray ’87 Rare EB Stingray from the early years. It’s one of the first that came with the 3eq preamp, and it has a rare factory original Inca Silver finish (which has aged to more of a greenish silver). This finish wasn’t officially available back then, so it might be a one off that has been made at special request. The bass sounds great with good dynamics, like you want from a good Stingray. It has Fender 45-105 nps strings fitted currently. All hardware and electronics work like they should. The neck is straight and well adjustable. The frets show little wear. The bass has small damages and usermarks. There is a bigger bump at the upper horn on the back. The body shows fine finish checking all over (which you only see in certain light). The pickguard has small cracks around the screw holes. Weight comes in a 4,85kg on my kitchen scales. As much as I like this Stingray, I have to let it go. An old injury returned, which means heavier basses aren’t comfortable for me to play standing for a longer while. So I’ll be looking for a lighter alternative. Fixed price €2.500 I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk and expense. A straight sale is preferred, but you can always try me with (partial) trades. I'm interested in bass and guitar stuff. Per example: Modulus 34" quantum or earlier Flea, rickenbacker 4001, Music Man Stingray Pre-EB (not too heavy, natural or mocha preferred), usa EBMM sterling model... Othwerwise a strat/jazzmaster or other offset, Epiphone sj200 acoustic guitar, a small tube amp for guitar. And Maybe even a refinished 60s Fender jazz bass (<='66 dots and binding). In any case instruments should weigh no more than 4,3kg. I've got more basses that I could add in a trade if needed.
  18. Not all Moduli are boat anchors, though most seem to be on the heavier side indeed. My Q4 weighs about 4.3kg (9.47lbs) IIRC, and my BassStar 3,8kg (8.37lbs).
  19. I've seen these added screws on many old Mustangs before. Apparently the scratschplate has a tendency to curl up around the edges, so people have extra screws added to keep it flat. Personally I think it will sell for more the the estimate of £1500-2000.
