Mismatched top, would this bother you? Cort space 4
SurroundedByManatees replied to 41Hz's topic in General Discussion
I'd be disappointed and send it back. Why would they apply such mismatching pieces together on one bass... If you can't do it right, don't do fancy tops. -

For sale is my Squier JV precision bass from 1983. It’s finished in a scarce fiesta red. The bass has a lot of damages and usermarks all atound, but all is good technically and it sounds fantastic and plays beautifully. The pots have been replaced for high quality CTS ones. The pickup is a black bobbin with cloth wire. Weight is 3,9kg on my kitchen scales. The bass is pictured with flats, but has been strung with rounds now. No trades please. I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship anywhere if needed. This ad may be withdrawn if my vintage Fender Mustang sells first.

I don't think it came stock on this bass. I've read somewhere, that around that time Fender had a product line of brass aftermarket parts that could be used for "upgrading". I remember a local advertisement where this bridge was offered in it's original blister packiging. Also loose bridge saddle assamblies could be purchases from that seller from old shop stock, and probably other hardware parts though.

Vox Humana / ESP bass Nice PJ bass from 1987, made in the Netherlands by Vox Humana using ESP parts. Back in the day they had some kind of collaboration going on where they made instruments partly themselves and offered ESP necks and hardware from the catalogue to complete the instrument to buyers wishes. This bass has a handmade mahogany body with flamed maple top, hardware and neck from ESP Japan. The pickups are older EMGs, and the preamp is recently updated to a new EMG BQC system. The old preamp (don’t know the brand, the board is covered in tape) is included, but needs rewiring. The mini toggle is not in use currently. As you can see the bass has a lot of damages and usermarks. Nothing structural though. The bass plays easily, and the neck (profile feels in between P/J) feels great. The frets show some wear, but nothing problematic. The truss rod works but doesn’t turn very smoothly. The bass weighs 4,56kg on my kitchen scales. Fixed price €700 No hardcase or other extras are included. I've got a decent case available ar extra costs though. I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk if needed.

Fender Jazz Bass 1965 Original L series Fender Jazz Bass from 1965 with an old nitro refinish. Possibly the original color was olympic white, as I can’t find a trace of another color in the cavities. The bass is all original, apart from the refinish. The decal is original too, though there has been some sanding around it. Probably to remove the dirt around it. All electronics and hardware function like they should. The neck is straight with a good functioning truss rod. The pickups are the original grey bottoms, which are undated. The pots date to week 12 1965. Overall condition is very good. There are small damages and usermarks around, but nothing shocking. Soundwise it’s one of the (if not the) best jazzes I’ve owned. The sound is warm, deep, clear, punchy… very nice. La Bella flats are fitted; which are a perfect match. Especially through a nice tube amp; just lush. Playability is great too, a low action is not a problem. The neck has a nice worn in feel too it. Weight is 3,95kg on my kitchen scales. The original case is included, and it’s still sturdy and totally functional. The original chrome pickup covers are included as well. This bass will possibly be withdrawn for sale if my '70 Mustang sells first. Price for straight sale €7.000 Partial trades (basses, guitars) are negotiable though. I’d be especially interested in a Modulus 34" scale quantum, Fender or similar electric guitar (strat, jazzmaster, tele) Epiphone sj200 1957, Precision Bass…

NBD - Epiphone Mike Dirnt signature G-3
SurroundedByManatees replied to neepheid's topic in Bass Guitars
I've always loved G3's. But somehow always ended up selling them again, just like Stingrays. I'd be interested to feel and hear an original against the Epi. Btw I just saw an original black Gibson for sale at a music shop for €1695. That's a pretty good deal for nowadays. -
This is my whole current collection: Modulus BassStar 1989 Squier Precision 1983 ESP/ Vox Humana 1987 Modulus Funk Unlimited 2008 Fender Jazz Bass 1965 Fender Mustang Bass 1970 Fender Vintera Bass VI The BassStar and the Squier (equipped with La Bella flats) get the most use at the moment at home. When my band will restart (hopefully next month) the Funk Unlimited will be the first choice. I'm still downsizing, but would also love to add a 34" Modulus Quantum 😁

Help with identifying this gender jazz bass

Don't rely on the Fender Database, it's far from being watertight. Many serial numbers will come up as non existent or will give a totally different production year (the year error goes for Japanese instruments especially). I've had a Fender Highway model which I bought new that wasn't identified in the database. The same for a 2003 Jazz that was totally legit. -

Seems legit to me, with sticker markers and likely a changed pickguard. It's quite common that authentic Fender serial numbers are not recognized in the serial numbers database. -
Of course most necks will be fine with a shim made of whatever. But a poorly placed shim and overtightened neck screws can contribute to ski-jump. Those full pocket shims don't have to be expensive. I've bought a few sets of 3 pieces for around £4 a set.

This kind of stuff

You can buy full pocket angled (different angled available) shim veneers. These are fine to use and won't case any trouble.

The EBS MB3 is a fantastic piece of kit indeed, it makes everything sound better for me, and spices up "thin" sounding basses in a satisfying way. I use it a lot as a headphone amp too. I use the drive channel for some subtle grit, sounds decent to my ears.

For sale is this beautiful Rickenbacker 4001 from 1980, finished in the somewhat scarce Autumnglo. It's all original. The bass is in very good condition. It has a few small damages on the headstock, otherwise it's very clean for it's age. The neck is straight and allows low action without any problem. The frets are still good too. Soundwise it has the terrific Rickenbacker sounds of course. There are roundwound strings mounted currently, but a nice set of flats can be awesome as well. I bought this bass recently to try a Ricky again (couldn't resist as Autumnglo is my favorite finish for a Ric), but I just can't feel at home on them. €3500 I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk. No trades at the moment please.
