NBD - G&L JB with silver metal flake sparkle

Excellent! -
Okay. I got this about 2 months back from an Austrian guy. There was a very similar '86 for sale in Belgium, though that was a refin.

When I got this I had done a setup with new strings (40-100 Sadowsky blue label). There were a few high frets, but those could be hammered back into the fretboard. Plays well with a low action now. Do you know this bass?

My factory inca silver '87 3eq Stingray I bought a few months ago. Probably a special order as this finish wasn't available at that time apparently.

Vox Humana / ESP bass 1987 €575 - *WITHDRAWN*
SurroundedByManatees posted a topic in Basses For Sale
Vox Humana / ESP bass Nice PJ bass from 1987, made in the Netherlands by Vox Humana using ESP parts. Back in the day they had some kind of collaboration going on where they made instruments partly themselves and offered ESP necks and hardware from the catalogue to complete the instrument to buyers wishes. This bass has a handmade mahogany body with flamed maple top, hardware and neck from ESP Japan, and EMG pickups. The controls are; pan, volume, bass, treble. The pot in the back is a passive tone which isn't connected currently. The mini switch is to put it in active or passive mode. As you can see the bass has a lot of damages and usermarks. Nothing structural though. The bass plays easily, and the J type neck feels great. The frets show some wear, but nothing problematic. The truss rod works but doesn't turn very smoothly. The bass weighs 4,56kg on my kitchen scales. €575 fixed No hardcase or other extras are included. I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk if needed.-

For sale is my original Gibson G3 bass from 1974/1975. It’s a great playing bass with a very nice sound of it’s own; clear and growly. A few of the pickup screws have been replaced. The frets show wear, but the bass plays fine with a comfortable action. All hardware and electronics work like they should. The neck is straight and the truss rod works fine. It’s a very light bass with it’s 3,5kg! The original branded hardcase is included. It’s in need of repair though as it is missing a few latches. The original bridge cover is also still present! Asking €2100 I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk. (I'll add another picture with username on paper later on. The one I made doesn't come out readable;) )

I've got ernie ball cobalt flats on my '57 cs precision, which are a very good match. I can't think of a better set of strings for it. They don't sound like traditional flats at all, more like well balanced played-in rounds. Had them on a Jazz Bass too, which was okay too...but not superb. I think they would do great on my Gibson G3 though.

Relisted as I had withdrawn it from sale. For sale is my beautiful Alembic Europa from the early ’90s. The bass is in very good condition. It has some usermarks and small damages, but looks great overall. Everything works like it should and the neck plays great with a very low action. The neck is straight and well adjustable, frets are still good too. This bass has a broad range of sounds with it’s 2 pickups, eq and filter controls. Nut width: 41mm String spacing: 19mm Weight is 4,45kg on my kitchen scale. Balance is good, it’s ergonomically a comfortable instrument. A softcase is included in the sale. Not sure if it came originally with the bass. I’ve been told it is by the previous owner, but it’s not branded. It’s a fantastic bass, but other type basses fit my needs better. Lowered fixed price: €3.650 I am located in the Netherlands, but experienced in shipping if needed. Trades/partial trades are welcome (max weight 4.2kg due to a returned injury); traditional type fourstrings, Modulus 34" quantum or earlier Flea, 5er with narrow stringspacing, strat/jazzmaster or other offset, good acoustic guitar… I'd also be interested in (refin) 60s Fender J or P, the older the better. I've got other basses too that I could offer in a trade.

What happened here?
SurroundedByManatees replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
I think it had been refinished over the original lacquer, and that it had been sanded down to the original finish at a later point. -
Counterfeit Gibsons making the news

Maybe it would be educative to open a topic about forgeries that people come across. It can be helpful for a lot of people I can imagine. -
Counterfeit Gibsons making the news
SurroundedByManatees replied to oakforest5961's topic in General Discussion
Yeah who knows, this could totally be the case. Though it would be a costly thing to fake a pre-cbs Fender well, with brazilian fretboard and convincing pickguard. In the "best" scenario they haven't been discovered yet. -
Counterfeit Gibsons making the news
SurroundedByManatees replied to oakforest5961's topic in General Discussion
On the Gibson story: It could well be that they are very non-authentic looking and are recognizable as fakes with just a little bit of knowledge. As they are probably cheap as chips guitars with a fake logo. All the fake Fenders (most seen as easiest to "fake") I've seen had at least 5 aspects that didn't match with a real one. Maybe a good luthier built bass (Nash per example) could fool at first sight. But those don't come in thousands. The vintage stuff is another story. -
The people at the bass gallery have access to internet too. So I assume they would know how super rare these are in just one minute of research. I can't imagine a real custom color '70 jazz being listed in that price range even if it was a regular fretted one. There was no useful info in the bass gallery ad, so we might know more once it pops up again next week 😉

Relisted: Fender Mustang Bass 1970 For sale is my great vintage ’70 Mustang Bass in a sought after competition red finish with matching headstock. The bass is all original as far as I can tell, and is fitted with an uncommon pinkish pearl pickguard (as sometimes found on instruments from this era). The serial number says it’s from 1970, which seems consistent with the matching headstock. The pots date back to week 51 of 1970. I don’t have a picture of the pickup bottoms; the pickguard is partly stuck to the body, and I don’t want to force things when taking it off. The solder joints are untouched. This bass has been used, and it has small damages and usermarks all around. Nothing serious though, it’s in a very good vintage condition considering the age. All hardware and electronics are functional. Two of the tuners are a bit stiff and might want some lubrication. The neck is straight, adjustable, and the frets are in good condition. I’ve added an angled shim to get the action lower while retaining a good breaking angle. It’s a very comfortable playing bass. Weight is 3,6kg on my kitchen scales. The bass is fitted with LaBella flats. The best choice for these basses imo, they bring a lot of character. Included is the original "salt ’n pepper" Victoria hardcase. Without any doubt this is the best Mustang Bass I've ever played. Though I have to offer it for sale due to other choices/purchases. It probably will be withdrawn from sale if I manage to sell some other stuff first. €4500 Partial trades are negotiable; fiver with narrow stringspacing, Modulus Quantum 34" scale or earlier Flea, stratocaster/jazzmaster or other offset guitar, Rickenbacker 4001, Epiphone sj200 acoustic... otherwise surprise me. The only 1-1 trade (or even with added gear from my side) I'd be interested in could be a '60s (refin) fender P or J. I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk. Upfront payment methods are the only ones accepted; cash on collection, banktransfer or PayPal as a gift.
