  1. I ecently bought a 100 pack of Rickenbacker compatible hex screws - I don't think I'll run out!

    NBD - Vox?

Well, I've just tried playing it and it's a bit hokey-cokey, also one of the machines is way too stiff. I think I'll disassemble it and try some experiments with removing the overpainting. In the end I'm only in it for a fiver; I would like to get to something playable, but if I just end up with a wall hanger, then that'll be alright.
  3. Well, the neck plate's on a wonk.
  4. @BrunoBass Shame you didn't make it to the Bass Bash; we could've put them side-by-side (I think yours has a better finish!).
  5. Geddy and Geezer - now that'd be an event!
  6. I hear he's got time on his hands now.

    NBD - Vox?

    I hadn't noticed the tuners - they're "characterful"!

    NBD - Vox?

Same as bertbass paid for his!
  9. I picked up this bass today at a car boot sale and it looks like it's a 60s Vox Clubman which has been overpainted (yes, by their son in his bedroom, the couple selling it told me). Any advice as to how can I strip off the paint without taking off the original finish too (the pickguard too)? I don't know anything about the paint that was used.

    NBD - Vox?

Yep - that's my plan. I think I'll be in the modding section asking for tips on how to remove the makeover without stripping the original finish. (If only I'd had it a day before, I'd have taken it to the bash bash and got some advice f2f.)
  11. No worries! :-) The folks at the Bass Bash yesterday seemed to like it.

    NBD - Vox?

Aha! It looks like a Clubman. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Vox-Clubman-Electric-Bass-Guitar-1960s-No-Reserve-Auction/142781696032?hash=item213e73c820:g:mfsAAOSwWw1a62Ik

    NBD - Vox?

I've just been to a car boot and came home with this... Apparently the folks' son painted it some time back. I've now got to strip off the paint and see what's underneath. I don't know anything about it, other than it says VOX on the pickups.
  14. I have something not dissimilar...
  15. I wasn't intending it as a negative; I was following on from saying the high octave is not so good. The 1 and -2 ones are good (subject to the caveat of physics wrt the -2). You're right that ths SS's tracking is spot on.
  16. My Marbass Super Synth's octaver does -2; on a bottom-E you can just hear the individual beats of the sound, rather than a note as such.
  17. My only regret is that I didn't get to play many other folks' basses - I arrived at 2 and next thing it was home time!
  18. It was nice meeting everybody and I found the guitar makers presentations fascinating. Well worth the drive!
  19. I think the -1 octave is alright, though; it's more stable than my Aguilar.
  20. Well, I spent a bit of quality time with it last night and I think I'm starting to get to grips with it. I got a near Tom Sawyer growl and also a phat synth sound (with the oscillators at 0, +12, and -12); I'll try and record them and do screenshots of the settings and an upload of the sounds. One thing I am disappointed with is the +1 octave sound - it's just dull and lifeless. The -2 octave is of questionable use on a bass, as you can hear the individual pulses of the sound if you go below A, but that's more about physics than an issue with the unit itself! It's too bad that the unit is limited to 9 saved synth sounds, but you can have a PC connected via USB to load one on the fly; that's of questionable use in a gig situation, but I suppose you could always buy a 2nd unit to double up!
  21. Hmmm - it's a 2-hour drive for me, but I might make a call on the day as to whether to go. It'd be good to see the Shafty again; sadly my Hondo II faker isn't yet operational, but I might bring along a couple of other P & J builds and maybe my '78 Ric restoration. I'm always on the lookout for parts if anybody has surplus. So I'm a maybe...
  22. I think so! I've got a Precision one waiting for me to fit machines (needs the holes enlarging for them), to put onto my Frankenstein body.
  23. Seems like a good price to me - I'd buy it if it was nearby.
  24. You do need to trick it out with a drop-D tuner, though! :-)
