1.
There was a guy on Talkbass who did a review of the Roland V-Bass system, let me see if I can find it, it's unbelievably ridiculous... Here we go. The video description says it's a 'very very basic and simple' demo. He starts playing around the 2:20 mark. Each time he starts demoing a new patch it gets worse.
I was interested in them Roland dealies. Was.
2.
Yeah, and of course the active/passive switching. One of the best things about the VM is the passive tone control IMO, you can get some great trad p tones! I did ask if they could include it on my new KT, but they said no (even though I know that Glockenklang do make a 3 band with the passive tone). Maybe I'll just have to contact Glockenklang at some point and see if I can buy the pot and get a schematic to do it.
It's odd, considering Glock do make the pre. Hopefully they'll supply the knob for you. It looks identical to a blend knob to me, using 3 lugs like a normal eq knob, and the other 3 as a passive tone setup. Delano sell the knob for their pres, and even supply a diagram to wire it in, maybe the same thing will work on the Glock. I'm sure Best Bass Gear used to have it too. EDIT: Looking at images of the Glockenklang pre, it seems a really simple job if you get the knob. Wire it the same as the stock knob, and add two wires from two of the new lugs to two empty slots ready in the volume knobs circut board. Looks like the preamp is desigend to be modular at the factory, so they can wire it with any of their available setups without special parts. Besides this treble knob, of course. Another mod idea I had was to put oen of them 3 bands in the VM, and use the mini toggle as a pickup selector, if I don't use the blend much.
5 weeks until my VT5 arrives......
Good luck!
3. That one has a 3 band too, right?
4. Bugs me too, now I like slap, and don't mind a bit in the review, but when it's all slap and nothing else, I've learned practically nothing about the instrument.
5. I had guessed it was a Basic, I think I read earlier in the thread that you sold a Basic to fund this. They look like mighty modern style instruments, especially Ken Taylors, them double buckers have got to sound beastly.
6. Like that it makes P's with slim necks more accssible for people. Not a clue who that guy is though.
7.
You won't be disappointed, they're superb basses. I had a Cali PM/VM for a while and it was ace. Make sure you post some pics when it arrives! Gotta wait 'til December for mine..........
I think you're right! Every soundclip I've heard has been great, and the necks sound just to my taste. I've wanted a 5er with a P pickup for a long, long time. December, thats hard, but I bet it'll be completely worth it!
8.
No probs. Have you asked Sandberg to add a switch or are you installing it yourself? SS Rounds all the way for me, but it's a pretty personal choice I guess.
Oh, I'd install it myself, as I bought a stock bass. Chances are I'll play it stock and be happy though, and keep the switch for another project. I'm normally a round on my P guy, for that grindy rock tone, but I had a Squier with flats that was awesome for Thin Lizzy and blues/rock stuff.
9. Cheers mate! I have a VM5 on the way, and I have a mini toggle switch with it too. I was considering doing the mod if it were possible, most of my basses with humbuckers have them. I know it works better with some pickups than others, was hoping this would be one of the better cases. Surprisingly, the worst and best I've come across were both Seymour Duncan pickups. I'm still considering strings, flats or rounds.
10. It depends on the model of Bart though. They have so many different versions of J pickups, and nothing to tell them apart besides some writing on the underside. Some bright, some dark, some hum cancelling, some voiced modernly, etc, etc. Lovely bass, btw, completely gorgeous.
11. I had a set on a bass a few years ago, Optimas from Thomann, and they sounded great for at least a year on a bass with a trem, even after they dulled to hell. Actually, I should dig that bass out, chances are they're still on it. They had green silks though, not pink like Peds, and I'm sure they were yellow/gold for a while.
12. Honestly, I've no problem with ERB and all that, but *he* looks like he's not enjoying playing. Whats the point then?
13. Lads, anyone know if the Sandberg Power Humbuckers have the capability of being wired with a series/single/parallel switch?
14. That ultra slim bass bar is really interesting!
15. I wonder could they make them completely flat, in a way that you could just slide them under your strings anywhere you liked.
16.
Thanks man.. i'm considering it! but would like to make the jump to a 6 string first rather than the 7 string.
Any particular reason, you seem to be doing incredibly well with this 7. It sounds good, if you like it, I'd go for it.
17. They shouldn't change much, if at all.
18. This is one case where the East pre is a bad idea. It's voiced like the Stingray 2 band, with his mid sweep added.
19. The Fender ones were rubbish. IIRC, the G&L ones are quite good though.
20.
I'd like to see a guitarist's amp head where the master volume control goes counter-clockwise instead of just clockwise.] Just a thought.
None of 'em would buy it mate.
21. That mirror plate is awesome, I'd never change it.
