Thanks guys, jutsbthe sort of thing I was wondering about. The Thomann ones look interesting and being that cheap it wouldn’t be a killer if they didn’t really fit with the new PA whenever that happens.

Sorry, I purposefully left it a bit vague to see what others run at the moment. At present we run two active Laney monitors that take a feed from the vox only PA, backline is totally independent. Plan is to upgrade the PA in the future to put a full mix through but that could be six months or six years away. Budget wise, the cheaper the better but we can get a pair of Laney 120w brand new for £340 so that would be a max at present unless there was a sensibly priced PA system that would cover the monitoring and do what I mentioned before but can’t see that happening within the budget we are likely to stretch to. I would love to hear any suggestions from a direct replacement to a completely different way of doing it.

One of our Laney wedge monitors has died so it’s time for replacement/ upgrade. I would like to go in ear but total cost for all of us is too high so we will either replace like for like (probably second hand Laney ones or new if we can’t find any) or the type that attach to microphone stands. Does anyone have any suggestions/ recommendations? Cost is a major factor as whilst I am willing to invest I am in a minority of one I think.

Odd that, the pictures show an enormous shop and yet not a single land line. Wonder why? Well I don’t actually but you know what I mean.

Give them a call and ask what time their shop is open as you would like to test a few out. The premises look impressive. My guess is it will either be an answerphone or you will get some BS as to why you can’t visit.

It wouldn’t bother me at all, a band is a team, different people bring different things to it.

Stack lives in the conservatory or rehearsal room as I like to call it, Basses mostly in the living room but a couple in the bedroom including the acoustic for last minute noodles before kipping.

Been searching for this sort of sound myself and haven’t got there yet, the closest so far is the Soul food, had one, sold it, regretted it, got another.

I love them, but I swap them out every 2 months at most and sooner if it’s a big gig for us. I do a lot of practice/ rehearsals but I think they have a life of about 20 - 30 hours before they begin to off. But they aren’t expensive and do sound fantastic when new. I have tried a few others but can’t get that sound with anything else. I just cannot imagine what a set would sound like after 16 years.

Very true, just goes to show it’s possible, not easy by any stretch, but possible.

I run a Mooer Reverb off a Mosky power supply without issue. Not sure if I am just lucky or not.

Just got back from a three hour rehearsal and the Soul food is suiting me very nicely. Enough to make its self known but not so much that it’s distracting me.

Yup exactly that, so far I have tried a couple of cheap pedals I got from mates plus an awful boss heavy metal (?) pedal, then a big bass muff, mojomojo, soul food, boss bass driver (pretty good), hot wax, everything on my B3 and a good few at PMT in Brum as well!

This^^^^^ we rehearse once a week but it can slip due to other pressures, as soon as we a couple of weeks out from a gig we can suddenly manage a couple a week and longer at that. We are still trying to build a bigger setlist (well two actually) and getting some or the more complex stuff from good to spot on which can take time.

I only play fingerstyle, I must admit I don’t like really fuzzy sounds on bass, probably why I am struggling to find the perfect overdrive!

I forgot to update this, I took the pedal to where I got it from and we tested it back to back with another and it was no different but very different to how it sounded for me (still not what I want though), there must be something about my setup that just doesn’t work with the mojomojo pedal so I will look to move that on. I then spotted a Soul food for sale on here. I had one a while back but let it go looking for that ‘perfect tone’, it’s a great mild overdrive and whilst not perfect it is very good. Within a minute I had dialled in a nice natural valve break up sort of tone. The search for perfect continues but I have got somewhere I am happy with for now.

It’s a rack mount rigid case, but it’s made of canvas so not too heavy.

I have an old 4u case that is plenty big enough to keep everything I need in one place.

I started learning the bass October 2016, first rehearsal was back end of October, first gig was late December. We had 26 songs, mostly pretty simple ones to be fair but it’s doable with commitment. The key was that rehearsal was just that, not practice to work out individuals bits. We each learnt or parts and the rehearsal time put them together. So it is possible.

My TE rig was just under £200 and sounds better than a lot of stuff I hear other local bands with.

Yup, it was the bbc band rpthat had some sort of stitch up job done as they had to have a part in somehow. It’s been on a few documentaries over the years but I can’t remember the exact details. Anyone remember the awful TOTP albums of the years best songs but played by completely different people?
