  1. Looking for a decent blue/ turquoise stain to go on Sepele (poor man’s mahogany). Had a look and few come up but would Like to hear which ones work well for others. I have a few offcuts I can test on. And does anyone have any suggestions for a lacquer to go on top?
  2. That is a genuine bargain, I don’t think people realise just how much oomph the old TE kit has.
  3. I use roto66s nickel, they are bright for the first hour or so until they bed in and then are perfect. They don’t have the longest life though.
  4. Grade A plonker, don’t stress over it.
  5. To be fair he didn’t say pro what, you would look like a professional idiot if you turned up to a gig with it.
  6. Oh boy........... (I could live with some of the colours though I think)
  7. Hoping to make it this year, however we are awaiting confirm a repeat booking on the 4th, if last time is anything to go by there could be an epic lock-in type situation going on so I may not be at my best on Saturday.
  8. My updated rig, still need to whip my main amp of its present housing for bigger gigs until I get a replacement.
  9. Neighbour has been out this afternoon so had a chance to put one of the cabs through it’s paces (ordered a second lead from obbm today). VERY impressed! They are renowned for being transparent tone wise and it’s not proved that wrong. The clarity and volume from something so small and light is amazing. I only had it linked up to my small venue/ practice amp but it still impressed.
  10. My new cabs arrived this morning (many thanks EAD), Not had chance to fire them up properly yet (waiting for neighbour to go out) but they look very nice and the weight is unbelievable.
  11. This^^^^^^ I found I had to work hard to get away from the brightness described above. Some must like it but it’s not for all.
  12. Bought a couple of cabs from Alain, could not have been an easier transaction. Spot on in every way and cabs are fantastic. Deal with confidence.
  13. I have a Gibson and balance is perfect, it’s a fender style neck and will be deep set so balance certainly won’t be an issue anyway.
  14. If you put the adapter in won’t it run the battery down though? The circuit is made by the presence of the jack in nearly all cases I think.
  15. Right angle one perhaps?
  16. I have an Ibanez TMB30, not as cheap as some here but a great sounding shortscale for little money.
  17. I had a mooer and a HOF, ended up selling the HOF, only because a wanted ad came up on here and the Mooer one works as well for what I needed. Mine lives on the pedal board and I do use it on a couple of songs on our general covers set.
  18. I have a Gibson Thunderbird you could have a try on if you can’t find anything in a shop, I am just north or Birmingham, also have a couple of Ibanezs but not that model.
  19. PMT in Birmingham have a decent range but no Gibson/ epiphone last time I was there. There is a good place in Leamington I think but I haven’t used it personally.
  20. Play them all, pick the one that sounds and feels best to you.
  21. People pay me, can’t be that bad? But seriously I know I am very average but am also sure I am above the curve for how long I have been playing. That’s thanks to a hell of a lot of practice and being in a band with some seriously good musicians which means I constantly push myself to improve.

    Ohms again

No need for them to be mismatched if the maker knows what they are doing. I have no reason to doubt the recommendation of Markbass who happen to suggest the exact setup I am after. My present TE setup certainly isn’t mismatched either.

Most of it, I read that first but was after confirmation on one detail which obbm kindly gave in the first response.

    Ohms again

Possibly but my experience is different, there has been a very different sound to the 15s I use compared to the 10s of the same make.

    Ohms again

I like the mix of 10s and a 15, always seems a more rounded sound than 4x10.
