  1. It’s an observation not a generalisation, most people on here play 4 strings, most basses for sale across the market are four string, most professional players use 4 strings. If they weren’t happy with 4 strings they would change surely?
  2. I am sure you are right, but looking at the number of them for sale/ in use, I think most players can be happy with the four. I tried five purely to cope with a few songs we do in odd tunings. I also restrung a precision BEAD but didn’t find any advantage for me. There will always be those with 5/6/7 strings and use to them to great effect but I am not one of those and the drop pedal does what I need and is an option that easy to try at minimal expense. Like everything, some will love them and you can only know by trying.
  3. I tried a fiver, then got a digitech drop, fiver has gone, never looked back.
  4. Just the best I have ever owned, each and every thing is spot on.
  5. Always anchored finger style, mix of pickup and E string, completely floating with pick, can’t even get on with the wrist on the bridge idea.
  6. And I am sure some realised they were onto a good thing and there was no point rocking the boat. Not many bass players do well going solo after all.
  7. I have one and it’s been great for several years and survived being loaded in and out of the car/ gigs etc. Zips still work perfectly.
  8. I use a combination of a soul food (which is almost permanently on with just a smidge of dirt) and a hot wax which is a twin channel pedal, so I can use either side for different levels/ tone or together for full on fuzz.
  9. Bit left field but Frankie goes to Hollywood stuff might fit
  10. You are in for a treat! The buzz after your first gig is unreal. Enjoy!
  11. As a comparison I had all new pots and a new PSU on my Ashdown amp recently which cost just under £80 including return post.
  12. Warwick reds, cheap as anything but sound great.
  13. This^^^^^^ in fact I would go as far as saying their systems are set up purposely to be unhelpful. When it works it’s ok, but as soon as there is a problem it’s a bloody PITA to get sorted. My last one through them was a pedal dropped over the gate in pouring rain. Thankfully a few hours in the airing cupboard saved it.
  14. Looks very nice, I would increase the radius of the upper curve on the lower horn to be more in keeping with the overall feel but that’s just my eye on it. Headstock will always please some and alienate others no matter what shape you do. Agree with above regards banding.
  15. Orange 1000w Terror, sounds fantastic but massive overkill for pretty much anywhere I am likely to play.
  16. I am genuinely the least OCD person you could ever meet but the random arrangement of different curve radii really bugs me. They always look like a bitsa where someone has stuck a few random parts on a toilet seat. As for GAS, I am a sucker for overdrive/ distortion/ fuzz pedals despite having a well sorted board making all the sounds I will ever want. If they are made by KMA then the GAS is worse still.
  17. My mate was bullied terribly at school. It doesn’t affect him at all now. He hung himself at 19 so I guess that’s ok………….
  18. I love mine, they aren’t cheap for sure but worth it (in my opinion anyway). It isn’t any one thing, they are just a collection of the right parts, with the right quality making a superb Jazz. The pre-amp adds an extra dimension as well. If you already have a player and the only issue is the output then why not look at a pickup change? I have a Squier Jazz that I use when we play certain pubs that are, shall we say, ‘less reputable’. I changed the pickups on it and it sounds very nice.
  19. I suppose being 50% off means you can order two and hope at least one makes it to you 😂
  20. If you want really dirty tones then the Vox Ad range as mentioned by myself and others above would be perfect, some of the amp sims on there are really heavy even before you crank the gain up.
  21. A jazz looks superb in Ocean Turquoise, a metallic one, or a burst effect would look amazing.
  22. Vox AD range, obviously not as good as the full valve ACs (but they are hundreds) but a great range of sounds from the onboard amp models and even has a few effects thrown in. I bought an absolutely mint AD100VT a couple of weeks back for just £120.
  23. We are all used to seeing horror stories about various companies but we don’t always report when service is above expectation. I ordered a pedal from GuitarFXDirect yesterday, communication was excellent and I was very very pleased when it arrived this morning. Checking the label I noticed the cost of postage was way over what I had been charged (presumably to ensure I got it before Christmas). Needless to say I will be using them again in the future, nice to know excellent service is still out there!
