1.
At the risk of being inflammatory (which is not intentional), I always believed that Cliff, like a lot of people who are no longer with us, is given undue exaltation purely because he's dead. I'm not saying he wasn't a great musician (and obviously played on a lot of Metallica's best material) but he was basically a guitarist who played bass - if you read any of the 'tallica biographies, he apparently rarely touched a bass offstage. Great stage presence, great performer and great writer by all accounts, but IMO far surpassed by both Jason and Rob as an actual bassist. There, I've said it *ducks*
I think it would be naive to think that his status/ability has not been elevated because of his death. But that doesn't mean that much of the admiration isn't genuine and deserved. A lot of his status within the rank of metallicas bass players will also be due to him being the bass player on Metallicas finest albums and before they arguably sold out.
2. Crazy all those lovely Aria basses and only a rubbish Staff practice amp to play them through?
3.
Cliff was my inspiration to play bass. Gigged "For whom the bell tolls" many times but nothing like the skills of the man himself: https://youtu.be/qdlQyNe_9tE
I knew that would be the version you would choose! Love that performance. You can tell how much he loved playing and felt the music - those bass faces are epic!
4.
Just the sort of fretwear I wouldn't expect to see on an unused neck
along with the gunk that hasnt collected either side of the frets which in turn is definitely not reducing the sheen on the fretboard in the non-affected areas...
5. Love Cliff. Cool as a cool thing on a cool day and inspired me and many others too take an interest in bass and even to pick one up!
6.
Hi guys, I'm after a Warwick Pro Series $$ Corvette but it's really difficult to find one here in UK. Anyone who are the main stocklists for Warwick basses? Just want to ring up/order online and wait for it to arrive. Cheers in advance!
They crop up on ebay and gumtree fairly regularly. You can pick up a used one for around too so really not sure why you would buy new when you can save so much money! Here you go: Not the best condition but would be easy to get the front of the body looking good again: https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/warwick-corvette-double-bucker-4-string-bass-guitar/1187558181 Here's one in better condition: https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/warwick-corvette-4-double-buck-german-made-bass-guitar/1185756585
7.
I think we are too used to BC prices. He's got overheads etc.
yeah i get that but those overheads wont get paid if he cant shift the basses because they are priced too high.
8. just had a quick glance at the used basses on their website. to say that their prices are "optomistic" is a bit of an understatement. I mean £750 for a used Yamaha TRB4II?!?! I bought a new one(display model) in '00 for £850! And I just sold my TRB5II for £400!
9. https://youtu.be/GLavQlMTI-0 They actually sound alright and defo have some of that warwick sig tone This eBayer is a chancer though - I've seen one new advertised online for about £260!
10.
So is it a TRB6II then?
No, as the seller states it is a TRB6P. The TRB6II has a bolt on neck and doesn't have a piezo pickup. it also has an ash body. The TRB6P is a neck thru and has a piezo loaded bridge. The P features a maple body. http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/el-basses/trb/trb6p/?mode=model
11. A used Yamaha would be my recommendation as their quality will be miles better than any other budget instruments. Something like these: Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122139651032 Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222254390254 This Japanese made Aria could also be a good shout: Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112147736067
12. Well I have had the multimeter out today and confirmed it's defo the bridge pup that's dead and not a faulty switch or pot or dry joint. i took the pup out and found the source of the problem, where the coils attach to one of the flying leads the coil wire has snapped. Oddly exactly the same problem with each coil. Now I am negotiations with the eBay seller as I want to get this fixed!
13. Sorry guys that was my bad. I'm new here and didn't realise that was the case. I will pm the seller instead. Good luck with sale. It's a beautiful bass.
14. For Sale (no trades thank you), is a Yamaha TRB5II in Translucent Blue Burst. I have upgraded the straplocks to Schallers (but will include the originals) and the bass has recently been restrung with D'addarios. Otherwise the bass is original and in very good condition for it's age. There are 3 small chips where the finish has been removed and I have shown these in the photos. otherwise there are some small scuffs which I have also shown but really this is a visually stunning instrument with a sound to match! It is very versatile with the 3 band EQ and the neck profile is lovely and fast. Loads of meet left on the frets which have been recently polished and the fretboard has been cleaned and oiled. The sale includes a quality Hiscox Liteflite hardcase. I will be happy to ship within the UK and internationally. Within mainland UK it will be £30, for other areas please PM me for a quote. 15. I just threw up a little in my mouth... Quite possibly the ugliest bass I've ever seen!
16. I have just picked up an SB Special II and unfortunately the bridge pup is dead. No sound at all when selected regardless of any switch position. I've wiggled the wires round but not noticed anything amiss or heard any difference. I will reflow the solder joints when I get my iron back. Btw, if the pup is dead, will it just read as open circuit on a multimeter?
17. Now got the pups and notice there are four wires from each. I take it that means that can be wired in with a DPDT switch for series/parallel operation? That would provide loads of flexibility of so...
18. looks interesting - no idea what it is but i like it!
19. Are you going to tease us with some details or is it top secret? im waiting to take delivery of a new (to me) bass too! Managed to pickup what looks to be a very decent bass for stupid money - Japanese made Aria Pro II SB Special II for £155!!!. It looks to have a lot of features in common with the earlier 80's SB range: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-pro-II-SuperBass-Made-in-Japan-/162194721659?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=osIDaNUttx2%252Fu9rLEi8oYpg2C1A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
20.
...and they both have strings - don't forget that!
not only that but both have 4 string nonetheless! and they are both bass guitars!!! seriously though, apart from the general shap, bolt on v neck thru and body material, they are pretty similar instruments in my book. I know they arent the same but I never said they were. i said they were "similarish"
