  1. These are the two main reasons I packed it in over two years go and I was only a middle aged f@rt of 48 summers back then! I've said to the mrs I'll probably offload most of the rest of my gear this year and she's quite sad to hear this! I'd said if I got my mojo back after a couple of years then I probably never will. I've not yet and tbh I've been to a few pub gigs over the last several months but I've not seen any band that's made me envious
  2. The thing that's odd about Later is it hasn't changed format in a million aeons yet over a similar length of time TOTP underwent several incarnations. My main beef about it is less what is included and more about what large swathes of entire genres are ignored. No electronica or metal for a start, well at least not in a very, very long time.
  3. does doing a workplace christmas talent show count?
  4. This is not quite accurate as there are 3 types; music one likes, music one actively dislikes and music one is completely indifferent to.
  5. HNY to all BCers. Cross fingers it's not gonna be quite as bad as many of us are fearing now we have to endure the worst government Cabinet ever
  6. The whole affair is a bit pointless considering it's recorded in early December so no wonder there's no party vibe going on. Just been skimming through the show on iPlayer and I notice the woman in the blue outfit in that not-too-good trio is rockin the Dave Hill of Slade fringe.
  7. You need two fingers in life , an index for pointing at things accompanied by shouting loudly at foreigners in English and a middle one for indicating your displeasure at other drivers
  8. It's the style of rock hat doesn't upset Radio 2 listeners, partly because everyone has heard tunes in the CR canon at least 3 million times
  9. Seeing Paul Morley's name on the front would be enough deter me from picking any book. I recall his scribblings in the NME/MM were pretty pretentious. As for Bowie, he was occasionally alright but of course Morley isn't the only person to see him as some kind of deity
  10. Not heard any music in a week as mrs Spiders and the offspring are'nt partial to electronica. Most of my listening is during car journeys to work and back and sad to say I don't have a shed to escape to 😢. I've invented a reason to go to the recycling depot this morning so I'll try and squeeze in a bit of Future Sound of London
  11. Unfortunately that's often the problem when you play with people who aren't mates. I've been booted out of non-mates bands a few times which is why I no longer bother and will only consider forming or joining a band with people who are at least good acquaintances. Unless they are your mates then I'd tell myself it's no big loss and they were sh01te anyway. Good luck finding a better band with less sh1tty people
  12. This is the ONLY christmas pop song I still like .after so many years. I'm not the world's biggest classical fan by any stretch but the piece the excerpt is from -Lt Kije - is a cracker.. but... this is numero uno for me
  13. mostly it's a shedload of stuff I'm deciding whether to keep , stick on Zon or give to a local charidee shop. I had 800 CDs at the last count and I'm looking to trim that down by half. Already 30 gone today, so 370 to go
  14. I'm just looking at my Sub Ray 4 and yes, the only meh thing about it is that logo. That said after I tried it out in the store (A Remus Sound for any Gloucs people here) it was a no-brainer.
  15. considering the BBC is right wing the bigwigs there are probably among those Jarv is singing about
  16. Frusciante's tone always sounds thin to me and I don't rate his rhythm playing either. Never understood this kudos he gets.
  17. Indeed. I've checked out but not signed up this this course purely cos I tried listening to some Tribal Tech albums and they just left me cold. Top notch playing all-round but after listening I just thought to myself 'and?'.
  18. Interesting to see graphics showing that in the major urban areas - London, North West, North East, south Yorkshire and Birmingham - Labour won comfortably in most seats. Nearly all the Tory wins are in the shire counties. I'm too depressed to say much more with a terrible hard Brexit now only 6 weeks away
  19. any of you peeps partial to a bit of John Scofield's Uberjam stuff? , very funky jazz-blues-rock - and a bit of kitchen sink . Here's the first track of the third Uberjam Deux platter. Guy called Adam Hess laying down some bubbling low end throughout the album and locks in perfectly with top drum work
  20. This year I've actually sold off 3 basses among several other instruments so I couldn't really explain away any new gear to mrs Spiders. Still, if ever a preloved Fender Jazz or Stingray Classic, both in natural finishes, ever came my way I might not be able to restrain myself
  21. I got into Wobble's playing after hearing Visions of You for the first time and that was consolidated after buying the excellent Rising Above Bedlam
  22. One of my fave drummers in any genre and a big inspiration to my own drumming. Viz the bass job it would probably be standing in for Bootsy on Up For The Down Stroke by Parliament. Why? cos it's a tune that's as funky as f***
