  1. The only music station I listen to is Planet Rock because just very occasionally I'll hear some peach of a toon that doesn't get aired much. The last time was a Clutch track about 5 weeks ago. More often that not I'm bored rigid with the endless repetition of certain tracks by Rush, Kiss, Journey, Boston, Black Sabbath, Free, Heart etc etc. It's hard to pick on just 3 but most certainly I'd have Alright Now, I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night and Give It Away
  2. Pretty much anything played on the radio. Pick any three tunes at random and chances are I'll dislike them 😊. But despite these I'll have to give the top/bottom three placings to +1 for the Archers theme - also mainly for the subsequent 14.32 minutes Also the theme tunes to Eastenders and Coronation Street. Now, I have a pathological loathing of soaps and fail to see why anyone would choose to watch such pointless, depressing, witless trash.
  3. Now That's What I Call Music.. 12 23 41 53 17 133 90 43 257 1,302
  4. I think the last new album I bought was either Who Else by Modeselektor or We Are Not Your Kind by Slipknot. Also got a couple of used Fear Factory platters, Genexus and Mechanize. Been quite a good year for new albums IMO though i suspect nowt I've bought will be in any album of the year list 😏
  5. I think Nevermind is one of those albums that captured the spirit of the times but like Moby's Play few who bought it ever revisit it. I have both albums but have played neither for at least 15 years. Way past time to offload them onto Sue Ryder though I cant imagine who'd buy them.
  6. Bought Nevermind but I haven't played it in decades. Badmotorfinger still does get the occasional airing and IMO it's far better then Nevermind. As for BSSM, IMO the RHCP are one of the worst bands I've ever heard. Atrocious 'singer', horrible scratchy guitar sound, an ok rhythm section and thin sounding material. The best album released that day and in that month for that matter is The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest, an absolute hip hop classic by one of the very best in the biz. Not far behind is Screamadelica which was put out the day before.
  7. As a young scrote for me it was 3 albums that did it; Rattus Norvegicus (Stranglers), New Gold Dream (Simple Minds) and Sulk (Associates). All having upfront and melodic basslines that really underpin much of the tunage
  8. I'm not a musician which probably explains why I've not known this.
  9. Is it any more or less pointless than other thread on BC? Any thread about the bass or music in general in this forum surely is pointful.
  10. Depends. Bands aren't like football clubs. Granted, if replaceable supporting members go then it's no big deal but if a main songwriter or iconic front man go IMO a band should change their name. After all, think of all the bitter disputes there've been over ownership of b(r)and names e.g. Floyd, G n R to name but two I dunno how Dr Feelgood can still carry on under that name as there are none of the original band members who wrote the material they're known for.
  11. Nice! I'm also back to my fave stuff, more recent electronica of the not mindless four -to -the-floor / clubbing variety. I'm talking old school Warp, Ninja Tune, Mo Wax and Kompost. Currently it's mostly Monolake which I recommend muchly to anyone who likes stuff like Autechre, the Black Dog, Plaid, Biosphere etc
  12. Yup, in rap/hip hop there's a lotta gash but there's also a lot I like a helluva lot. Outfits like A Tribe Called Quest, Eric B & Rakim and Public Enemy have never put a foot wrong 👌
  13. Sorry to disagree but taste being a personal thing there are several genres where I dislike everything I've ever heard including Smooth Jazz. Smooth Jazz originals are bad enough but it's bossa nova lite and torch song type pop and rock covers that bring out my inner sociopath
  14. Indeed. I saw them at Blue Dot this summer. Can't remember any movement or any words tbh but then again if they had spoken and put moves together that would have gone against their robot schtick
  15. This is, this isn't difficult to do. Get any song, bung some walking bass line plus a swing, bossa nova or slow tempo rhythm underneath and Robert is your mother's brother. Smooth Jazz is the curse of many a potentially romantic meal out but is at its most irksome when you hear a fave song of yours given the jazz lite makeover. PS, excuse the typos in the thread title. i do know the difference between its and it's!
  16. I've been vainly trying for years to find a decent band and have all but given up now. If i was in your position and have a regular job anyway I'd go for (3) and not worry about the extra dosh. There are always other more guaranteed ways of getting additional regular moolah. As long as it's fun is the main thing
  17. I'm sure he's a fine singer and a good bloke but I've never quite got the all-round kudos Gregory Porter gets . He seems like a permanent resident of Later and yet there are entire genres that barely get a look in
  18. I wondered what happened to him as he doesn't seem to have appeared on anything I've heard since. Live it was Julian Crampton and a fine job he made of it too
  19. not forgetting the 2 and half minute chats with some nongenarian soul/easy listening 'icon' of which 2 minutes is Jools doffing his cap and toadying to said icon and 30 seconds is said icon saying something like how great it is to be back in Eng-er-land and he/she will be playing their new album in its entirity at the Ferret & Whistle in Dalston for 10 nights on the spin
  20. As most people I know can't even tell a bass guitar apart from a uke I don't even go there
  21. Apart from some electronica outfits what bands or artists have managed to have long recording careers while hardly, if ever, gigging. Heaven 17 didn't while they were at their 80s peak but then once they hit their 50s decided to tour their first two albums!. Cracking live they were too.
  22. What 's wrong with the nekkid form?. It's the natural state. After all, we weren't born in trouser suits and would you suggest the Hottentots or headhunters of New Guinea put on cotton briefs?
  23. While working I've been playing Blast Tyrant and From Beale..on Last.FM. Cracking albums. Think I'll be getting me a few CDs though no bargains to be had on Zon or Discogs . Fast becoming my fave rock band right now
