  1. Weekend bump. If anyone is genuinely interested, please note that I'm going on holiday in just over a week... so I can get this sorted next week, otherwise it'll have to wait until I get home. I'll bump again just before I go and pick up again when I get home
  2. This. I played most of my WMC gigs as a sax player in a 7 piece soul band plus sound guy and too many lights. We used the gigs to fill in between functions. A lot of these places usually had a solo artist or duo playing the week before and when we turned up it was a bit of a culture shock. Sound limiters were a bit of a problem, but there weren't many of them in those days... once me and the trumpet player jumped off the stage and played unplugged until the sound came back on. We learned to be quiet and respectful during the bingo. I found a lot of these places were full of regulars who all sat in the same seats... they were there to drink beer, play bingo and watch the turn... nothing was going to stop them doing that.
  3. Very nice. In fact, you've proved to be inspirational for me. I've been thinking of pimping my Squier Jaguar SS. I put a Gotoh bridge on but also thinking of new pups and new electronics... and possibly a whizzy pickguard. The only problem is that it sounds pretty good as it is... way better than I'd expect for the price. If it plays well, like you say yours does, why not keep it and pimp it up. How did you get on changing the tuners? Did you have to drill new holes?
  4. Can't help with the db. For electric bass I used Markbass Bass Keeper... may have seen one for sale on here recently. It only works with furry bass cabs, though... like a Markbass, in fact.
  5. Keeping both is a good idea. I haven't ruled out getting a HCT, but I'd have to hear one first. As far as I can tell, I think the Ignition have "ignition" pickups, which are Chinese made versions, while the HCTs are a bit better appointed with the German pickups. The Chinese pickups sound good enough for me, though.
  6. Hi mark... just seen your comments. I did think about the HCT... they have the German pickups, I think, but it was the fully hollow body that swung it for the Ignition. I love this bass as it's a great counterpoint to my Fender and Squier. The German made Club would be the icing on the cake... I'm sort of hoping I never get to try one, might be tempted to buy one.
  7. Thanks for that... now sorted. Near Huddersfield.
  8. For sale, my Roland Microcube Bass RX... bought about 2007 as far as I can remember. Very versatile... built in tuner, effects, amp sims, aux in, phones out and rhythm generator (my fave). I do have to point out that it is a small practice amp, so you have to be a bit careful with the bass eq and overall volume... but you can get some great tones out of it for a bit of bedroom noodling. It can be powered by batteries, but also has a PSU. Also have a manual for it. sorry, no trades. Pickup preferred (from near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire), but can post for an extra £5. Cheers
  9. Now I'm a confirmed non-gigging bedroom noodler, I'm selling my beloved Markbass combo. I harboured thoughts of using it as a practice amp, but it just pumps too much energy into my tiny practice room... works very well as a laxative, though! I bought this brand new about 2007, but it's not been used seriously for at least 8 years. Still in good condition and in fine fettle. 12" speaker. Comes with kettle lead and original manual. I seem to remember it was touted as 400 watts when I bought it, but I'm sure you need an extension cab for full wattage. Plenty of power anyway... which is why I sold my extension cab quite quickly. Any questions, let me know. No trades... sorry. Cheers Edit: I'm not doing very well on these ads today... forgot to say: pick up preferred (from near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire) but can courier for extra £20.
  10. ***Price reduced to £650, including courier delivery*** ***If you want to turn up on my doorstep and hand over a bunch of fivers you can take ut away for £600*** This offer for a limited period only... then the bass will be spirited away for another fate. For sale, my Fender US Jazz bass. Maple board, 3 tone sunburst. I bought this brand new around 2008... or thereabouts (you may be able to tell exact year from the photos). It's had only light use and never been out of the house. I'm getting back into bass again now, but decided to go short scale... so this is surplus to requirements. This is a fine example of an American Standard, with the carbon re-inforcement rods in the neck and high mass bridge. It's rock solid and plays well... absolutely no minus points as far as I can tell. It comes with a bomb-proof Fender hard case and various bits and pieces. The strings are d'Addarios (fairly new) but also some hardly used twangly strings as an extra. I'd be happy for anyone to come around and give it a try, hand over a bunch of tenners and take it away, but otherwise I can courier for an extra £30. I'm based near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Any questions etc etc let me know... I'm off for a cup of coffee now. Cheers, everyone Edit: Sorry, forgot to say... sell only, no trades.
  11. I used to have two Fylde acoustic guitars... the necks were hand crafted by Roger himself. Outstanding instruments, but after a while I had an honest conversation with myself and sold them to someone who could play them properly.
  12. +1 for Jack. I've recently had a pickguard done. Post your old one in and wait a week or so. Top bloke to deal with and he keeps you informed... I hate it when you send something off into a postal abyss and you don't even know if the guy's received it or not.
  13. Too true, Barking Spiders... no band is better than a bad band... as you say, the same principle applied to my first two marriages (in my case). I've said this before, but I don't believe there is such a thing as the perfect band... just a perfect band at a particular moment in time... things change. One of the consistent problems I have encountered in bands is excessive drinking... I just don't drink when gigging and got sick of watching all that careful rehearsing turn to sh*t when certain band members start quaffing.
  14. I've had to drive two drummers (and their kits) around in the past... it was a total PITA. The were both good drummers, however, and they were also jolly good eggs. I don't even have a car now and I don't think I could even fit the flightcase for my Jazz into Mrs Trueno's Fiat 500.
  15. I agree with all of the above. It actually sounds like YOU are the band. Just get a new drummer and a new singer/guitarist and you're good to go.
  16. I've always had 57s as I've used them as instrument mikes. My first one was appropriated as a snare mike and got the life battered out of it (kept on working, it must be said). I have a beta 57 now... because I was feeling a bit flush. Also used it for bvs though. Very solid and confidence-inspiring.
  17. Curtis Ousely, aka King Curtis. But for bass... anything damned funky.
  18. I believe tambourine session players would get paid quite well... seriously. People who play things like that... including triangles could well be classically trained percussionists (the son of one of my friends is one). Their level of expertise and hours of practise is beyond the level of the average gigging bassist... I would suggest. edit... dood beat me to it...
  19. Thanks for buoying up my dodgy memory... heh! heh!
  20. Stacey in Hawkwind... is that the right name??? Don't think anyone complained at the time, though.
  21. Thanks for the comments. Never liked the look of the violin shape, despite the Macca association. I would be interested to try the HCT, but I wouldn't want to like it now I have this. My first bass playing gig was with a 60s style band, this would have really been the business, both for looks and sound. But it's just so comfortable and light for extended bedroom noodling now and I love the tone.
  22. I actually got this a couple of weeks ago but wanted to sort out a couple of bits before I posted pics: 1. New strings... the stock strings were surprisingly good (although roundwound) but nothing prepared me for the tone I got once I fitted La Bella flatwounds... waaahhhh!!! 2. New knobs... just had to get the genuine German ones 3. New scratchplate... it was a little bit nasty. In the end I got a whizzy new one from Jack's Instruments... it's shinier, pearloid-ier and the black ply stands out more around the border... well worth getting. For a budget Chinese made instrument I am very impressed. I thought about getting the more expensive (and still Chinese made HCT version, I think it has the German pickups in it, but I didn't want it heavier and sounding more "comtemporary"). Set up, out of the box was very good. The action was a tiny bit low by my "high" standards, but it's not exactly a dig-in bass. No sharp frets, no buzzes or farts. I'm rather pleased.
  23. ^^^ might have been tempted to say "Boom, tish!", but I don't think your drummer could even manage that.
  24. This has got me thinking a bit... a dangerous thing on Sunday morning... Apologies to any decent vocalists who take their craft very seriously, but I wonder if the problem with some of these people is, 1. They regard singing as an easy option, maybe granny has always told them they could sing well 2. They secretly feel guilty because they are in a band with real musicians who have spent thousands of hours learning to play real instruments. They overcompensate for an inferiority complex by acting like a-holes 3. A bit of both In the past I have even thought about volunteering to sing myself, because I can get the right note 9 times out of 10, but I really wouldn't want to while playing bass, and I absolutely couldn't do frontman duties.
