1. Bass now sold... mods, please remove. Thanks to everyone who has shown an interest.
2.
That's right. It's a 32" scale but the "bum" makes it longer than my P Bass for example. If your gig bag or case fits a P Bass or a Jazz exactly, the Jarman won't fit.
That's what put me off getting one of these basses (I quite like the look of them). The body is long and the bridge is further into the body than a normal bass, so although it's only a 32" scale the overall length of the bass isn't shorter. If they made it the same shape as a Mustang with that tele headstock and that colour... I'd snap one up.
3. I was prepared to be cynical but was impressed. No pinched harmonics on a zither, though.
4.
I'm pretty sure, right now, I'm the weak link in terms of stage presence in our band. I plan on changing that and I'm already seeing improvement at every gig. Blue
You could take the view that you make all the others look really good... and therefore you perform a vital role ... don't be too hard on yourself.
5. Looks like ACS is the go-to. Just a coincidence that the others popped up on a google search... maybe it was a sponsored link.
6.
Watching a recent video, I noticed how I think I feel and look on stage is not reality. Reality is what I see in video. I had this bouncy sort of thing going on that doesn't look cool at all Blue
Watching yourself on a video is a real eye-opener. I was absolutely horrified when I saw myself. I thought I was a quiet stand-next-to-the-drummer guy, but I just looked totally embarrassed to be there, then I kept sighing and looking down at the fretboard. I thought I was being cool until I saw that. Smiling and looking at the audience is definitely a good start. For the record, I'm 61 but haven't gigged for a few years. Before playing bass I played sax for a long time, then I used to stand at the front of the stage and jump all over the place... luckily no videos of that.
7.
Good point.
+1
8. I was on the Warwick forum for quite a while. The wisdom, as I remember it, was that you just can't get replacement Warwick necks, unless you can prove to them that your current neck has been comprehensively trashed. It was a few years ago. You may have to consider custom made, but hopefully someone else will have some more up to date info, or maybe a company that does cheaper necks.
9. Thinking about it (which I admit I should have done before I posted) it's not very likely that anyone will have tried both. Just seen another thread where most people with customised plugs have ACS. But the Pro Guard popped up first on a google search. I used to use Doctor Pro, which were quite good for cheapies. I assumed the real value of customised is the comfort and the fact they fill all the gaps... in addition to the fact the filters are supposed to attenuate all frequencies (maybe not quite, but closer than cheap plugs)
10.
That's no excuse, you're just trying to come up with things to justify your opinion. Everybody knows that the bassplayer can leave the stage mid-song to go to the bathroom or have a pint and nobody will notice, not even the rest of the band...
Aaahhh! Reminds me of the good old gigs in the 70s. Them were the days.
11. I like this. I'm a low-mid guy myself.
12. Any thoughts... issues? The Pro Guard seem to be a bit more expensive, but doesn't necessarily mean they are better. Thinking of buying one or other of these.
13.
A 201B is my Gotoh replacement bridge for my P bass...
I see what you did there...
14.
I guess if those are the only kinds of audience you ever play to, you might be right
I've also played to chin-stroking gearheads and I don't think they notice either... at least they never said anything. Actually, talking to other bass players post-gig is usually a good laugh... but maybe that's a topic for another day.
15.
But nobody except you will ever notice ...
Agree. My rule of thumb.... will the drunk at the bar notice?
16. I mostly gigged with active basses and got used to a balance knob, but have a passive J now. I'm purely "set and forget", so mostly neck on full and bridge backed off a bit. If I found I was using neck only I'd get a P bass. In short, I'm happy with either.
17.
Interested if it is still available. Will either pick up in person if I can manage or organise courier.
It's still available if it you want it. No problem with pick-up or courier.
18. West Yorkshire, close to Huddersfield.
19.
Possibly bridge not wired to earth correctly making intermittent connection? But yeah send it back.
Sorry, Twincam, I missed your post yesterday. Just done a few more experiments. It seems to be the tone pot. Switching the pot off completely cures the problem... which would be ok if I played dub bass all the time. Given it a swizz with some contact cleaner, but no change. Also noticed some hum from the amp (when the tone pot is on)... which doesn't happen with my jazz, even on a single pickup. So something is not right. I did wonder about earth wiring, but I assume that would not be affected by the tone pot. Anyway, been in touch with the shop to send it back. Shame, great bass otherwise, but I don't want to even muck about with it at the moment, just want my money back and maybe revisit in a couple of months. The silver lining... getting my Jazz out for a comparison has reminded me what a great bass it is. I did fancy a short scale, but I might just have to slum it with this monster.
20. Time to 'fess up... I once played in the local jazz festival... AND I used to play bluegrass banjo. Oo-er.
21. Cable works fine with my other basses. You're both right, but I wanted a bit of confirmation. No point mucking around (or even spending cash) if it's brand new... just send it back. Cheers, guys.
22. Just got a new Fender Mustang bass. I've noticed it makes a slight crackling noise when I touch the strings. What's that? Shielding not right or summat? It happens regardless of pickup combination... not the pots or anything, don't even touch them. It's not very noisy, but enough to be irritating, so the bass is going back. Any thoughts?
23.
No.
You beat me to it!
24. I don't like just saying "bump"... so I'll blather on a bit instead. Now comes with free sheet of d'Addario stickers (courtesy of Strings Direct). I also note that my Photobucket hosted pics are still hanging on here... if the pics diappear I'll get on it.
