No, that would be a pretty expensive option and not sure it would give a big enough sound or make the most economic sense. But sure, it’s true I like the sound of one. Probably going for the sound of 3x but not at 3x the cost - close to €5k!

Thanks for the tips Dood. Will reset the tweeter controls on the CNs before any drastic financial action. Here in SW Spain there are few opportunities to try stuff at dealers.

I’ve got an Aguilar th 500 paired with 2 Bergantino cn 112s. Don’t like it and can’t get a sound I’m comfortable with. It was hastily assembled in the US as we moved to Spain and I never had a chance to try it. I have bought an AER AMP THREE which is great for smaller venues but i have tried the Ag and Bergs several times to cover bigger venues but on each occasion struggled to get a sound that pleases me (or the other band members!). We play covers from: Stevie Wonder, Prince, Doobies, Beatles, Elvi, Johnny Cash, ac|dc etc. Using a Mike Lull pj passive with occasional p and j basses. What’s wrong with the sound? Woofy, flat, lack of zing, dull. No that’s not much help! So there seems to be a mismatch. Is it the amp or the speakers....or me?! in the past I have enjoyed pairings of Bag End 15s and Markbass lm2, Eden 800 and 410xlt, So what to try, what to change? Would welcome your input.

You have just what you need - Markbass should do it for you for a good while.

Our singer got fed up with his mic - a well used EV- breaking and being sent off for repairs. We grabbed a couple of PRODIPE TT-1 and they are working out very well. First saw them favourably reviewed by SOS magazine. Have seen a 3pack for under €80. We have not given them the SM58 hammer test and don’t intend to but they sound and look great. Have used the Behringer 8500 too and it does a reasonable job as does it’s cheaper sibling the 1800. When longevity and sturdiness enter the equation, then Shure and Sennheiser are the gold standard but to be fair to the PRODIPE or other ‘cheapies’, haven’t had any long enough to comment. It’s great to have some cheaper, good sounding options though!

Just received this from Seattle The reissues are a mix of mostly new standard features and some old. The control plate, knobs, and headstock shape are old style, the neck has a new custom profile that's only available on the CLF L2000 and L1000, the rest is just like the current L2000. I wish they had put the OMG caps into the L2000 but they will be in the L1000. Something else I learned recently is that G&L are supposedly putting graphite rods in their USA necks now... I have a CAR CLF L2000 and I love it. The neck is much more comfortable than most 80s G&Ls but it does feel like an old G&L neck profile, just narrower at 1-5/8" at the nut. With the L2000s they only offered maple fingerboards. Body options were limited in colors and woods available, my CAR is basswood and fairly light at 8.7 lbs. Sound is great, one of these days I'll try the OMG caps in there. I've got a CLF L1000 on order - metallic gold, basswood body, Caribbean rw board. I'll let you know what I think, I should have it in a week or two. I'm assuming I'll like it.

Look like Re-issues of the early ones. I have owned “L2000e and L-1000 in various finishes. The L1k is stellar but both of the L2ks seemed to be over 12lbs. Hope these Re-issues don’t replicate that feature. I currently own an Empress Wood L2k which is under 8 lbs. My best L1k had a MM neck shape and smallish frets which contrasts with the latest Empress featuring huge (to me!) frets. My friend in Seattle is Hip to all things G&L and he will be able to shed some light on these models. Will update when I hear back from him.

You might try the ALTO ts312 or others in the series. Decent price, sound and improved drivers and amp compared to the ts212 (which got plenty good reviews). We just bought the ts312 as monitor for our drummer and he is delighted but jury is still until we give it a good run through its paces. Also occasional good deals online - Thomann have/had the highly regarded RCF 310A MK 2 FOR UNDER 300 EURO. Next move upwards is to Yamaha dxr and qsc k10.2 but that is a serious £ jump. good luck.

If you are happy with the bass when it’s working at 100%, why change it? Tributes are great instruments and to get similar or better quality will cost you a lot. I have owned about 15 USA G&also over the year but just 2 Tributes - all great basses. Your G&L has the same pickups as in the USA models and they do not ‘wear out’. It seems your pots and switches need a service and perhaps, replacement. Tributes use heavier tuners than the USA equivalents. If you are finding that you have neck dive or tuning instability, that might be an area you might want worked on. A trip to a good luthier/tech will take care of any issues. However, the big question is whether you really want a change? If you do, then you know what to do BUT you will be hard pushed to replicate or better the sound.
